Kirsty Experiments with Bubble Nails - Fails and Success!

- Hi everyone,
In this video we’re going to do Bubble Nails which a new trend going around and I saw it on Vincent Nails and Kingston Nails on Instagram and a couple of tutorials. Some people are having trouble with it so I’m going to try and figure out what makes it work and what doesn’t - it’s a little bit of a sciencey video today.
I’ve already prepped Andrea’s nail and I’m going to apply stiletto nails. I’m using Natural Beige and Pure Black with a few different designs. I’m going to use Natural to blend the two colours together. Cap any of the Black in Clear. File and smooth the nails out once they’re done.
For the bubble section, I’ve got to mix a potion so I have 2 dampen dishes. I’m going to use Snow White and Butterscotch for my gel polishes, I’m then going to add Monomer, Pure Acetone, Cuticle Oil and Top Coat. I’m going to mix all of that together and apply it to a section of the nail. I found you need a lot of oil so I’m going to add an extra bit of oil on top of the mix to add some more bubbles in.
I’m then going to cure and remove all the extra oil with Gel Residue Wipe Off Solution and then Top Coat. Make sure all of the oil is gone before you top coat. Finish with some cuticle oil around the cuticles.

I think it's funny. There is a channel that has a largish audience from Canada tuay will always copy Kirsty's designs. I'll see Kirsty do a different design or technique and then within a few weeks she is trying to do the same thing.

I wasn't typically enchanted by the look until you added the foil. Then it all came together for me and I started thinking of different colors and the froth became seafoam, etc. Outstanding job and this is going to be my next project. Thank you, Kirsty! Hi Kirsty! Big fan here, I wanted to say this was a great video! I went and tried my hand at it too. I find that your initial method is great, but I found that by putting down a wet top coat layer first and then add the mixture on the nail, it spreads more. When watching those acrylic pour videos the artist usually puts down a wet layer of paint and then pours on top. It gives the paint something to move into and spread.

Adam’s idea about putting all the single nails u did designs on in resin and using as a desk would be absolutely wicked!! then clients can see them all and potentially pick the design they want😎😊

I think it's the cuticle oil that makes it bubble. Because I'm an acrylic painter, when u add a silicone oil to paint you get bubbles and separating of colors. We call that putting "cells" in your picture

I actually sculpted a nail (for the first time) on myself just last night - on my dominant hand. And I heard your voice as I was picking up the bead, releasing on to the nail, and other nuggets you share. Your nails are gorgeous! I do love them. If you want some big bubbles cut out all of the oil. The oil is causing it to separate and what looks like "bubbles" is oil separated from the gel. I would use more gel polish, a small drop of oil, and a couple drops of acetone. The oil is meant to hold the bubbles to keep them from disappearing and keep the acetone from eating right through the gel polish. Again love watching you. My 2yr loves watching you too!

I did this a while back using Isopropyl alcohol instead of acetone and it works the same so I reckon it must just be a need to thin the gel so that the oil mixes better.

Do you think that the bubbles get larger when you clean it, because the oil is heavier and goes to the bottom of the nail with gel sitting on top, not really curing? Then, once you clean it, it removes it all.

I just commented about acrylic pour paintings I do. I haven't had a lot of luck with creating nice cells with resin. But I've been tempted to try tiny pours over full cover nails I can just glue on.

You only need oil and acetone mixed with the gel polish, one drop of oil and two drops of acetone and two drops of gel polish. Put acetone in last. That’s the key. Very pretty set.

Kirstie, I'm not one to put down anyone or nail techs but I've seen woman who do not apply the deydrator and it annoys me, is that extremely important or not?? This design is gorgeous!!! I love your work, your my number one tech!!!!!
Watched another vid they mixed the gel polish and oil then added acetone at the end for the froth (bubbles) was awesome watchin you experiment and find your own process...LUV UM!!
This reminds me of the acrylic pour paintings I do. (I have some videos of them, but the quality is meh) We use silicone to create "cells" and mixed with the different consistencies of paint it creates a wild pattern. Very psychedelic.
Everything's soooo much better with foil. God, I love these nails. Please, please do moon nails next.

The one nail def looks like the moon. Overall to me reminds me of my marble fireplace in my old house. Cause marble can have like bubble like patches of color missing and look frothy/smokey.
