Sweetest Love by Dr. Matthew Emery

"Sweetest Love" was a work I wrote while studying at UBC, it was commissioned by the University for the retirement of the university president. The music is built on the notion that things in our lives are always in motion, always moving and evolving. We too change and are changed, however, we can keep the things we hold most dear safely in our hearts and memory. I use a syncopated melodic idea to bring out the imagery of something that is temporary, something fleeting, and I use various tonal centres in the music to evoke something that reappears in new light, in new surroundings, but is still recognizable. - Matthew Emery
