They built a lot of places disguised has houses in the 1950-60's if I remember rightly, some on the "secret" bunkers had entrances like that. I believe some of Londons bridges had hidden machine gun positions in the sides disguised as pillars or supports or something.
A bit of van camping advice from an old American.
Always take one of those small picture hanging levels and a few cabinet installers wood wedges to level the camp stove BEFORE lighting it to heat water, cook eggs, or anything like that.
Cheap and easy and makes life easier.

Have you seen the one at llandrinio disguised as a cow shed at the river crossing? Still has the tank traps each side of the bridge. Was a key point if the UK was invaded.

That house reminds me of one I saw when I was in France a few years back, I was touring the beaches of Normandy and near Arromanches I saw a house that was built around a German pillbox, but it was real Atlantic Wall style German construction, this mass of concrete sticking out the side of the house. I wish I'd gotten a picture of it.
When you're filling your washer bottle up, turn the container sideways, then the air can get in, then it will come out smother and not go all over the place. Thank me later 🤟🏼🤣🤣

We have that type of pillbox which sits in an elevated position at a nearby river bank. There used to be wartime RAF training airfield nearby.

There's still a large number of those little defensive structures all over the country, there's a bunch on the Thames around my home town of Wallingford and it looks like the one you saw has joined many others in being adapted onto new constructions as it's often cheaper to leave them in place and build around them though some have since been demolished to make way for new structures. I'm sure there was many extensive anti-tank ditches and other defensive earthworks that accompanied those little things but the brick and concrete pillboxes all that remain now of structures built during a period of great uncertainty.

That quite cool there is one similar to that near Reading, but not so much added onto the side but underneath the house like in the cellar that sort of level.

If you had used a flat bottom frying plan then your eggs would have been ok. Using that ridged bottom frying pan thats why it caught.

Oh no way, you were in my local village folk :) you should pop over for a cupper next time you're in the area. My dad is good friends with the owner of the house with the pillbox, if you want a look inside give me a shout and i will sort out a visit. old tunnels in the seller leading to the church too.
I atchaly live and work in the village of the visited places, the first has been converted into the shop/restaurants/houses pantry for storage

How come the IKS crew don't document the 1860s volunteers rifle ranges that are all over UK? Every design is differant so I like to find and photograph them for my fb group. Lots of people assume they're ww2 related lol, I'd love to see IKS do one of these sites, would make a great change from pillboxes

There is a similar machine gun post on the side of a building along the A2 in Kent, I bet you’ve driven past it a few times and never spotted it !

OK, I'm so glad I don't have to go camping with you two, I'm surprised your remembered sleeping bag, blankets, being able to cook food and washing facilities, face towel, basically all the stuff you need to camp comfortably if you're going to get in the habit of doing this. but on a more positive note enjoyed the video.

Do you still sleep in the old Ford Tranny now? This is what we do we have a transit but looks standard from outside but bed an all inside. Makes parking up at night much easier!!

lads.... plumrose bacon grill. instead of rashers,, its like spam but tastier and stays fresh in the tin. .😁
Easy solution to the breaky buy streaky bacon as you cook the fat out then cook the eggs in the fat so no sticking eggs.😀
