- The Toronto Maple Leafs nearly managed a legendary comeback against the Columbus Blue Jackets... they didn't, but it was still a very entertaining game. That and more covered on today's NHL hockey video!

Losing after that comeback was so on-brand. I'll take the point and I'm not completely disheartened but it could have been so good.

I watched the first period and went to bed wondering how we were going to lose this one.
I wasn’t surprised at all when I checked the score in the morning.
It's depressing as a fan when you go into the 3rd period with a 5-0 lead and are still expecting to somehow find a way to lose. It happens the same way, in the 3rd period, every single game.

I thought I was watching a Stars game. They seem to gag up leads in the third period all the time. Daryl Reaugh said that the Stars best period is the 2nd, meaning....the 3rd isn't.

So they went down 5-0 against a "bad" team, had two disastrous periods which included 5 uninterrupted goals against with no change in goaltending, two players skating into each other, and a player injuring himself by apparently doing nothing, then scored 5 goals to tie the game in the third period alone, only to lose in overtime anyway.
The Leafs are an objectively funny team, and I think it's long past time that we just embraced that reality.
They are the embodiment of chaos.
There is no change in goal keeping they can make that is reliable since Woll is out
It is so much fun being a hockey fan who watches the leafs without cheering for them. I imagine it would be a different story if I was emotionally invested in the games, but the ridiculousness of this team is very entertaining

Agreed, 40 minutes of Benny Hill and 20 minutes of "oh right we're here to play hockey" then to fall flat on their face in OT... IF thats IF they won it would be a "comeback" but would it really be based on current era CBJ?

3 on 3 OT regular season has to be one of the best decisions the NHL has ever made. I don't care who you are or who you were rooting for, that OT was one of the most tense few minutes of sports I've ever watched. Especially given the context of the monumental comeback that happened before.
Wish they’d get rid of the shootout and make OT 10 minutes. If it ends in a tie, who cares?
@@07foxmulder They can't really do ties anymore, it's a whole thing. Shootouts suck but I'd go to 2 five minute 3 on 3 OTs then shootout personally. The 3 on 3 usually leads to scoring since you just functionally don't have defense. Only really goes to shootouts if both teams suck at scoring or if both goalies play well, in which case I guess the shootout makes sense since it essentially tests who the better goalie is in a 1 on 1

I was at the game, what a sick game... People were leaving going into the third period, everyone was feeling doomed. After Mitchy's between the legs goal the energy picked up. Unreal environment, crazy game. Unfortunate the buds lost in OT but still one of the most entertaining games I've seen.

I feel like lately Toronto's penchant for blowing leads has been equaled by their penchant for making comebacks but no one pays attention to the comebacks
With that lineup they are expected to score goals. Could care less how many they gave up, it is no shock to see them score 5.

You can pretty much guarantee that it doesn't matter how much they're winning by, or losing by, the third period is going to be exciting.
Because both the blowing leads and needing to comeback is not what a playoff team would do, especially not as often as Toronto's been doing it.

Easily the most entertaining team in the league for me. I’m a Ranger fan but stumbled upon a Leafs game somewhere in the Spring of last year. Something about the way they play offense brought me to the edge of my seat. I’ve been watching ever since, tonight in that third period is everything I love about this team. The way they’re able to just take it up a notch offensively. It’s more than just the goals too, when they’re humming like they were there’s nothing quite like it in the sport right now
Yes but their problem is they only do that when the want too. It's never a clutch thing or a desire to win. It has always been a "do I really want to?" thing and it's just so god damned frustrating as a fan.

This guy and Jonny hockey and a few others make such interesting mini game recaps and news videos,makes me follow and enjoy hockey more.nba and nfl are the main leagues I follow but I don’t remember seeing videos like these about nba and nfl the good videos are always longer

The Leafs this year remind me a lot of the 80s Oilers. Their offence is just a driving force this year much more so than in the previous years.
Reminds me of the Habs vs Rangers game in 2008. 0-5 to 6-5 comeback. Not all goals were scored in the 3rd but still a heck of a game to watch !

Blowing a 5-goal lead (probably biased tho as a Leafs fan lol) since in order to do the latter, you actually need to make the comeback, and blowing a 5-goal lead is more embarrassing than losing in OT after a 5-goal comeback because, well, you didn't blow a 5-goal lead.
The tanned leafs guy with the goatie had a shipwreck show back in the day! I remember watching it all the time, no idea what it’s called but it was awesome!
This game made the history books too. First game for a team to be down 0 - 5 to make a comeback and tie, but lost. All other teams that have gone down 0 -5 to make a comeback and tie the game, have won the game. This sure is Leafs' hockey. Good job on CBJ to hold them off and win to make some history on the backs of the Leafs. I was watching the Lightening v Oilers game and saw Stamkos get his first ever 4 goal game. Either game you watch, you saw some history made tonight.

Hope he has a swift recovery not just for the sake of the team but so that he can continue to get experience for the future. Very important season for his career.
I was there last night. The crowd has some life after Marners goal and the arena went crazy when they tied it. I don’t even care that they lost this was the best game I’ve ever been too and what a miraculous comeback.

When the NHL puts an expansion team in Mississauga or Oshawa to syphon off all those on the Leaf's season ticket waiting list and then that new team gets in the playoffs and goes deep.....when that happens and only when that happens do the Leafs get serious about winning the Cup. They are a mirage.

Sharks made 3 incredible comebacks in a row. More impressive than this one.
Love how Mirzlikins still stood on his head. Toronto had 48 shots at the end, 25 before the first goal. Nylander and Matthews alone put up 19 shots. Is Columbus ok? You have Zach Werenski, what are you doing?
You know what’s crazy. Blues were down to the Leafs November 29th 2000 5-0 with 15 mins to go in the 3rd period and came back and won 6-5

With Toronto's lineup, it should not be a shock to see them score 5 goals, plus, lose it in OT.
The Leafs can outscore any team. The team's structure is offense forward. That is why they are an elite regular season team. This is the time in the schedule where the Leafs will pile on the points and the Core 4 a lot of goals.

Look how many OT games the Leafs have. Who do you think is the best goalie in the league? Put them in the blue and white and how many of those games don't go to overtime because he made the save they needed.
The flat out don't get that save and quite frankly haven't since Ed Belfour left town.

Never count out the Leafs bud they are never out of it and have that explosive firepower as you know. Not their best game but a memorable comeback for sure. This group has heart and character should serve them well later on down the road being that resilient. Onto the next. Glad Sammy stayed in too for the come back that was important.

I picked up my phone to check the score when they had about 2 minutes left and saw they were at 5-3. I turned it back on and watched a pretty cool ending. Wish they got the 2 points, but I'll take 1
CBJ only shows up for a 40 minute game, always expect them to choke in the 3rd. Was nice to see them not dumping the puck every time they got to the blue line for once.
i really wish CBJ could play proper 3rd periods. this is like an extremely exaggerated example of how they have been playing games all season except it wasn't an exaggeration, it was real lol. glad to see them clutch it in OT though

Only Toronto can come back from a 5-0 deficit to then lose in OT. Every other team rides that momentum high to carry them to a victory, but not toronto. Good on them for coming back and getting a point in a game they had no business being in after two periods but damn it's that killer instinct, or lack thereof again.

People cheering this on must be casual Leaf fans. It’s not 2016 anymore, moral victories aren’t cutting it. Good on them for coming back from 5-0, but they don’t finish. The Bruins game, Islanders & this one, all late game heroics just to choke in OT, it’s peak Leafs. When it’s time to win, they lose. Any one of these 3 games could have been a turning point win that sent their season on a trajectory they’ve never seen before. The moments are too big for them
The leafs are like the perfect ying and yang they have great offence but horrible defence, can make comebacks but also blow the biggest leads, I honesty love being a fan of this team cause it’s so funny even if it’s so painful
