- The first 30 seconds of an insurance phone call, no matter if it's a cold call, an aged lead call, or if you're even calling a fresh lead, is extremely important.
The first 30 seconds can be the determining factor on whether or not you set the appointment & ultimately make the sale.
The first 30 seconds is what separates the agents who succeed and the ones that don't.
In this video, I'll share with you some things that have worked for me when calling insurance prospects. Have you mastered the first 30 seconds?
Leave a comment and let me know what has or hasn't worked for you when calling insurance prospects. 👍

Successful people don't become that way overnight. What most people see at a glance-wealth, a great career, purpose is the result of hard work and hustle over time. I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life..
@Dorina Shyti please I have seen a lot of positive comments about expert Mrs Russell on CZcams, I believe she is pretty good at her service for being this popular. How can I easily contact her
@Dorina Shyti That's amazing recommendation thanks for sharing her contact details I will leave her a direct message 👍
I've got interest in investing but afraid of doing it on my own to avoid losses from my own
I lost about $27,000 to a scammer before I was recommended to Expert Mrs Russell financial institution and believe me she helped me recover the $27,000 and made an extra of $40,000 in the space of a week and four days.
She has really made name for herself
So I literally just did my first calls EVER today and used this information. Out of 15 Facebook leads, I got 2 appointments this week. I know that’s not mind blowing at all. But I don’t think I’ll be trying anything else! Can’t wait to see how the rest of the week goes, and the weeks to come. Thanks Cody!
howd it go
@@6rackzhimself well. Sold one policy. After doing it a couple more weeks, idk if this is the job for me. It takes a lot of no’s to get a yes... at least for me. I have two little girls and it seemed like I was spending so much time on this. But if you’re single or just in a relationship, no kids yet, I think it’s a great opportunity! I think people can do it with kids too but maybe better for those that are ok not being around much
@@briannapeters4936 lol! I'm in health insurance. So, so, so many people come to our office and have no clue how much work and time it is. Sometimes I don't even bother learning the newbies names because I know they won't last long. It's good money but be prepared to work 60+ hrs a week and (sometimes) go weeks without getting paid. You are 💯 correct. I am a mom to 4 teenagers and even though I work crazy....3 years in with the same company, I cannot imagine working for anyone else. I love being my own boss.
@@briannapeters4936 Yeah you're speaking the untold truth about the industry.
Not saying everyone will fail out, but it takes ALLOT of money, ALLOT of leads, and a decent amount of training to be successful.
Its why allot of people tell you to 'blindly follow the path'.
You have to be comfortable to drop $500 for 20 leads and spam the SH out of them because you just paid $500 for the leads and are desperate, and then repeat that over and over and commit 1K-2K to hopefully having something churn out of it.
People don't tell you that 'exclusive' leads aren't exclusive. Yes, THAT LEAD is exclusive to you, but nothing is preventing that person from filling out 50 other leads (which they always do) so you're competing with TONS of agents trying to get them first, including telesales who will quote them and try to sell them right there.
Mail in's aren't as bad but still exist to some degree.
You'll spend your days triple dialing people (in a row) just to have 10/20 not answer (so you spam them more), 8/10 of the other 10 tell you they're 'busy', going out of town, not whoever you're calling, not interested, etc etc, and your training and ability to respond in the moment might secure you some appointments, and the other 2/10 will probably be rude or curse at you lol
Its a business that can make money but it will take ALLOT of mental fortitude. If its online leads these people don't realize you paid $25+ just to get their number, to them you're just an annoying nobody, so these people fill out forms on a whim.
How did you get 15 Facebook leads?
Thanks Cody for this priceless advice on Introduction! After using this and making my own changed my entire sale call. I sold 4 life insurance policy’s today over the phone!
Congratulations 🎊
Amazing hope you continue to do so 💕✨
Are you still doing well? This is great
Hii Dear, that's awesome. I'm looking to get into insurance sales. Is there a way i could have more conversation with you?
-- I sold over 300k in premiums my first yr in p&c insurance, here's a bit of advice I wish I would've known to do from the start, as it made dramatic changes in my close rate once I started..
Always moving right into the questions I find helps, I like saying " hey, _name__, i'm finishing up on this quote for your car insurance, I just want to confirm, your still driving the "blank" (or w.e limited info you have)? (then hit em with all the qualifying questions after) don't give them a way out with yes or no questions, knowing your qualifying questions specific to what you're selling is also key before you even get them on the line, this is what is going to keep you in control of the sale from start to close.
Another huge word of advice: ASK FOR THE SALE! I had this screw me on hundreds of occasions, but simply just asking them what's their preferred way to make the payment after you make your presentation makes a giant change in your close rate.
Great advice in this video!
117K in the first eight months🔥 🐐
THIS. IS. GOLD. absolute freaking GOLD, I love it
Thank you!!
I was thinking the same thing! W̊◎ẘ! Ѧмѧẕїηℊ!!!
Cody, your old stuff still works. I just tried this and made 2 phone appointments for tomorrow. 2nd one hung up before I could verify so I called back and left a message verifying his info and telling him my availability is booking up. He called back to set up the appointment.
Thanks for the feedback Leah!!
Wow, I had people hang up on me I'd leave a voicemail and nothing. I think I'm going to try to verify the info to see if this works
Ha that's great!
I am making my first call this afternoon and I was so worried, I was looking all over for a video of AT LEAST just what they say. This is a full break down and everything
This is honestly extremely good advice. Everything he said was spot on.
You are a GODSEND Cody!! I am a beginner insurance agent and I wouldn’t have learned this information anywhere else!
Thank you and appreciate the comment. Let us know if we can help in anyway. feel free to book a call with us here:

Great stuff! This is what I teach my folks when they're prospecting. Get to the personal connection quickly!
This was like magic, thanks Cody. Just called a new prospective client and said Hi..., this is ... your friend Tom gave us your phone number and he said you need help in .... He said ohhhh, yes, and laughed and the conversation had a nice start! Great, will used it in the future, just this "5 sec start" was incredible and right to the point!
Thank you Cody for all of your tips really appreciate it.
No problem! Thanks for the comment 👍
I always feel like he's talking directly to me. I'm such an uncertain person that needs a blanket when first starting something that its a handicap. Hopefully this sinks in quick and I get over this uncertainty. Thanks, Cody!!
Let me know if you need any help with that! I talk a lot about that in my success society coaching program if you're interested in direct coaching from me.. thanks for watching my videos!
Hello Cody, I'm new in cold calls, I am really enjoying your videos, I really love the way you explain it and I hope It'll help me in my calls. Thank you for this video. :)
Thanks for the comment! Let me know if there's anything more I can do. I'm here to help! 💪
Good stuff-my script was wrong. Glad I ran across this video.
I literally just threw out my script and rewrote it based on this video! Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Was it good?
Have you experienced successful changes on your calls?
@@gushadajuicegirl09 I don’t make cold calls on a regular basis, but I had a project where I had to do it to get at least 10 leads for a Government contract. Using these techniques worked as I got my 10 leads after making just 12 calls. The calls yielded exactly what I needed. I assumed I would have to make at least 50 calls with my original, traditional approach.
Thanks, Cody. I am sooooo glad I found this channel.
Soooo yep, this works. Thanks Cody!
Cody, how to transit from a phone introduction to presentation and get them to e-sign an application form over the phone ?
I've been a qualified specialist for 2 days and this helped me more than the training. #firsttimewatcher
Welcome Jonathan! Would love to have you on my webinar this weekend if you're available.. here's the link to register: bit.ly/2J4dfjD
Appreciate the content! Used to make cold calls with great success, but it’s been 10 years, and I need to knock off some rust.
Best of luck!
Cody, great video training. I am fairly new to the insurance business and write policies over the phone. How could I adjust the script in this video to fit that phone narrative? Loving all the great info!!
Cody just sold me a damn life insurance policy that I don’t even need😆 damn he’s good 👍❤️
Thanks for this advice I’m just starting so wanted to make sure I come correct this was great
This is insightful. Thank you for sharing
You are awesome, Cody.
Great video I’m going to put this to the test this week!! The phone is what I struggle with the most! And everything you explained makes since!
Glad I could help..Let me know if some of the tips help you this week!💪
All of the tips helped me! Booked double the appointments then before I watched this video!
Jonathan Webb how’s it going following these steps now three months later? Are you averaging $14.5k/month yet?

Awesome !
step 5 - the close , what if we are just trying to make a sale over the phone ? How would you word that ?
I’ve been in insurance since 2017 and before I worked with 401ks. I really don’t want to do anything else. Life has just been getting better and better
i don't even sell anything by the phone, but your videos are great and engaging haha. thanks a lot!
This is gold Jerry, gold.
Thanks Tom!
Hi Cody! Watching your videos like crazy. I sold cruises for 9 years and I just got my life insurance license two weeks ago. Selling cruises from inbound calls and selling insurance from cold (ish) calls is like night and day. I got a script and tried it on 3 calls and I shook my head and knew I needed something else. It was dry, boring, long and complicated and I sounded like a chipper robot. It was awful. I NEED this to work- I’ve got no other options and I know I can, but I still need to be authentically me. Thanks for your videos, I’m learning a lot and I hope your methods work for me as well as they work for you!
Let me know if you need any additional help my friend! I have lots of affordable programs for new agents like Insurance Agent Night School and several others.. give my office a call at 833-402-4368 if you want to get plugged into one of these - I truly think they would help! 👍
Hey dreamsrsweeter, have you succeeded in implementing Codys tips? How’s the results?
Reviews of customers policies to ensure if their are upto date with their current circumstances so may you do a video for us and I promise to share with the group been having really difficulty to surpass our targets or even talk to if there is anything other way to reach to you I will be grateful

Good information Thanks !
Great video dude. With your phone techniques, I should kill it. Thanx man, stay loose 😎
Thanks! I have plenty more videos on sharpening your phone skills as well. Keep me updated on your results & good luck! 💪
Hello, I’m David. I’m following up with you about your experiences with the program in the video. You stated you would kill it! You remember saying that right? Could I get your thoughts now on how you’re doing? I can come by and check your response in a day or two. Do you prefer I read it in the morning or evening? I truly wish you the best.
Any suggestions for cold leads for supplimental insurance?
Thank you, am patience from Uganda. Am surely and perfectly guided thanks
Quite resourceful tips! Thanks😃

Very helpful tips. Thank you!

Am glad to learn from you Cody.
Thanks for being here! Glad I could help
I’m new to the field. This is awesome!
Thanks for watching Doug! I've got plenty of content for new agents but let me know if there's a specific topic you want me to cover 💪
My psuedo is also Cody, well Cody could you make a video like this on sales that are through insurance, like pain creams etc
Powerful and impactful. Way to break it down!
Appreciate the comment!
Cody, this is great stuff man. I’m in M&A in the mortgage industry and I’m still hooked on all your videos. Love it. Making me want to get into insurance now. Lol.
Lol thanks for the comment buddy! Appreciate you following me 🙏 It's a great industry to be in
Is it pretty similar techniques in your industry?
The Insurance Dudes Podcast It definitely is similar. The big thing for me is taking control of the call ASAP out of the gate and being clever in how I work the call. I have all that mapped out ahead of time (like Cody does) and know where I’m going to lead it, etc...
This is great Cody! On point. Life saver!
@@snehakamale1391 Thanks!
Awesome & Direct..Thanks CA
Thank you! 🙏
Questions specific to my situation: I work as a broker for Company Z and all the people I call are already clients with Company Z. The EFSs i'm working with say that it is good to use the company name because it communicates to the client that we already have an established relationship (since they already have other coverage with us) and that we are trustworthy. Do you think this is still a bad approach since I'm not buying leads? Also - wondering your thoughts on how to spin the 'I'm getting back to you' statement because the clients didn't fill anything out. They just already have other coverages with Company Z. Thanks for any insight!
Great tips on calling .thank you ,very effective
You're so welcome!
Nice video, but this is most definitely a WARM call. Would like to see a script for people who are calling on lists of businesses that may or may not have any interest in what you're selling.
Yeah, definitely more for an aged lead for sure
Great tips !!!!
I’ll be starting selling property and casualty next week. Already feeling more confident going into it after getting these tips. Your advice makes total sense and I appreciate your videos :) keep it up man
@DC A take the practice test over and over until you can babble off the content and you WILL nail it
@@savannahsmiles1797 TRUTH!!
Hi I are u getting leadscfrom any place
Hey cody what do you recommend to openers to get sa
Successful transfering call to closer
Cody, brilliant. "Coldy" 😂
I'm new to this I'm not an agent but I transfer to agents. but I need to get them more interested before I transfer or they may not want to transfer. That's so funny lol "Hello is this Betty?" Bro, I'm so nervous but I need to do this. this channel will help me.
This is so great
Powerfull stuff👏👏👏
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Keeping it real. Thanks
Thank you so much for the video!
No problem man! Thanks for watching
Hello Cody- thanbks-- do you have a revised version for " post Covid" all virtual/ old calling/ no forms filleed out.
Terrific!
freakin awesome Cody
Thank you
This is powerful stuff
Gracias!
One of million dollar advice
Thanks!
Hi Cody what about when you are calling cold data
We are calling data that's only got they already have insurance or funeral plan
Cody thanks for all of the tips....
Question I am a newer agent and looking for final expense leads. Anyone have any advice
I would get in contact with my marketing company Secure Agent Marketing or Secure Agent Leads... tell them I sent you 🙏
This is really good. However, the current place provide leads and majority hang up or state that they weren’t looking, for health insurance. What should I do?
Thanks Cody
No problem, thank you!
In now, the time it's virtual zoom meeting, how would it come across to drop off the information @ home ... how would I go over it if I am on virtual?
How do you ask for the person you need to speak to when you don't know their name? I'm cold calling businesses. what is your recommendation for that inro?
On point 3 what if you are calling existing clients that haven’t requested a call. What would you say in this instance?
This is powerfully
Your first two points are powerfull. but for the other points/// In my area agents just do cold phone call and set meeting then finally sell. So, I have a number and its name (no other data). so plz guide me how do I set meeting with him for insurance.
Thanks
Hey Cody. I just found your channel and am souring through your video :) I love the quick no nonsense call. How would you change this up for B leads? tia
I wouldn't change much but you may just have to tweak the verbiage you use a bit.. either way, I would try to just go right into telling them what it's for and seeing when they're available to meet.. thanks for watching!
I have a interview tomorrow for this company any pointers ??
Cody, I’m strictly a telesales agent. How do I word Step 5, as I’m not a field agent?
I have 30 leads and I'm going to try this.
I have a three page script. Omg! It's crazy.
Let me know how it goes!
how did it work?
How did you work
what about referrals ?? or leads that have been like 1-3 years old
I've recently started new job..selling medicare.. disappointed by the response of ppl..but after seeing this found something informative..I'm hoping these points will help me a lot...thanks 😊
You got this! All the best 🔥
Medicare is tough, but if you get into the mindset they NEED this, and everyone has to pick a plan, go in with the authority of let's get the coverage you are ENTITLED to or need, and go from there!!!
how would you adjust that for P&C code calling
Nice!
Cold calling is the ultimate skill. If you master it, you have no competition. You have the whole ocean to fish from.
I know a telemarketer who was so good, she was able to take a "sorry, you got the wrong number" (a REAL one) and set an appointment.
My jaw dropped. Sometimes it is not the script. There are a lot of other intangibles that are very difficult to explain.
What if we dont have anything to confirm their data?
I am doing cold calls
Bro u r legendary 🤴
Thanks!
Thank you so much m🙏🏽🙏🏽
Any time!
Thank youuuuu
Thank you!
Im licensed in life insurance and I remember getting cold called by other agencies who didn't know I was licensed, pitching their product to me as a prospect.
and sometimes i'd just take a 5 second inhale and 5 second exhale and then say "yes.. this IS mr. smith"
What do you do if there is not a name in the system? That is what is getting me as well as when they say you have the wrong number.. I am definitely going to listen to all of your suggestions especially when you say to stop saying hi is this so and so I'm Just Go with It.
Great advice! It’s important to be assertive and show authority.
I have a question. I work for an independent insurance agency as a commercial lines account manager. I love my job and want to start generating new business for our agency. How would you adjust your approach for commercial P&C, and when calling a prospect that is not lead generated?
Hey Mason, I would love to have you in my upcoming 4-week mentorship program if you're interested, and I can answer much more about that. Here's the link to learn more: events.codyaskins.com/order-form16051127212031605236086933
Hi Mason, this is Ryan from ABC insurance. Calling on your business insurance I see you have a renewal coming up in March. My team and I specialize in CZcams companies just like yours. We have some awesome programs that put similar clients into a better spot. Any reason you wouldn’t be open to us reviewing where you are and seeing if we can help? - (from an insurance agent 5 years in. Definitely recommend learning a niche and become an expert. Don’t be a generalist) good luck.
@@ryancaggiano9464 Great pitch, thank you, Ryan! I am going to search through old prospects in our agency system and call them, so I know exactly when their renewal is. I am also focusing on a few specific industries that I am experienced in and that our agency specializes in.
@@MrOldskoolgamez look me up on LinkedIn and DM me if you have further questions. Happy to help
How would you change this pitch for P&C compared to life?
@Cody Askins How to transition this to qualifying them for the insurance if I only make calls and do everything through the phone?
Book a call
Our sales system helps with this.
Me also working in call center for selling US health insurance to US people.
