- I have been wanting to replace this window for quite some time, but I haven't taken the time to order the new piece of glass. After breaking a different window trying to swat a fly (yeah... you heard me. lol) I decided to go ahead and get the extra pane of glass and replace this one as well. All of the information in this video (including materials) were recommendations of a professional glass installer. As long as you have a good grip on the glass and you're strong enough to lift and manipulate the pane, it should be an easy/straightforward process. I hope this video is helpful for you! If you have any questions, feel free to drop a comment. Peace and God bless!
I wasn't sure if I needed to put the caulk/glaze in on both sides and your video answered my question. Thank you 😊
Glad it helped. Thanks for the comment!👍😁
New subscriber here. Thanks for the video. I lost a single pane window and some siding during a storm while I was on travel. Thanks for the video. It gives me an idea how to approach this problem. All the best!
Thank you for the comment and subscribing!👍😊
Glad I found you.
The glass broke in our window in our old house, and the window has this groove inside the wood for the glass.
I purchased plexiglass to replace the window glass, and I've cleaned out any caulk. Probably should use alcohol and soap as well.
You should probably put actual glass back in… our plexiglass made noise wobbling back and forth when doors opened/closed in the house.😆
excellent teaching.
Thanks!
I was able to buy the vinyl glazing at Ace hardware. I could only find it at Home Depot or Lowes in expensive bulk packages that seem meant for a whole house.
Nice! Many glass suppliers will carry a few types, but the older the window the more difficult it is to find the right kind.👍
Nice job Ryan!
Thanks!😊👍
I accidentally broke a window and didn’t know what to do thank you
I accidentally broke a window too swatting a bug.😂 Thanks for the comment!👍
Nice work
Thanks bro!😉
Thanks
You're welcome! :)
I'll go for plexiglass then. Seems to be much easier and safer to install. :)
Every time you close a door you will hear it flex… that’s one of many reasons we got rid of it.
@rutterrealtygc i was just about to ask why you didnt like it. Since plexi tends to be the more expensive choice.
I'm a DIY girl married to a contractor who won't change our broken glass so I'ma do it myself 🤨🤣 thought it was harder than this. It's just scary getting cut.
Lol!😂 Totally know so many of those situations! Why is that a trend? You’d think the contractors would want to fix their own stuff first!😂 Be extremely careful and don’t get cut or hire someone else!! 😊 Best of luck!
I 100% can understand is reasoning on not wanting to fix his own stuff as a contractor myself 😆😆😆
Awesome
Thanks!
Hello nice work, i just accidentally broke our window. where can we get the glass?
Just do a quick web search for your local glass companies. They should be able to cut the glass for you and also give you an install quote as well (if you didn’t want to do it yourself).
My window is two sections pane, old apartment window style, the opening section has the internal spring assist. Looks like tabs and metal stip separate the horizontal middle area. Please make a video to show this.
I don’t understand what you are trying to explain, but if I do another window, I’ll put it up here!👍
Do you know how to replace insulated glass panels in newer style aluminum and wood clad windows?
Double pane windows? I have not changed those, no.
Hi great video.
I live in a 2 floor condo. Can I change the glass by the inside of the condo?
Can you change it from within the condo? Is that what you’re asking?
@@rutterrealtygc yes
Quick question! Is the process the same if it's the upper stationary pane? And do the pieces always fit in from the outside? Second story window 😮💨
Without seeing the window, there’s no way that I can know. Typically, if it is a single pane glass window and you can see the glazing on the outside of the window, then the glass will go in from the outside. You can always contact and licensed and insured contractor to be sure! 👍😃
@@rutterrealtygc I rent 😅 and my property management company is a nightmare.
Rubbing alcohol works for cleaning the glass and evaporates itself leaving no residue 😉
Thanks!
Where do you get the rubber pieces? And do you know what they're called?
I got them from a glass guy. I don’t know what they’re called. Any little rubber cushion should work. The ones I had were 1/16-1/8” thick.
Is there anyway to remove the plexiglass pane without braking it? Mine looks good but seems like the caulk is beyond its life and it has a small leak through it. I am planning just to remove the panel, remove old calking and putting the panel back with new caulk. it is possible?
Plexiglass is not the same as glass… is it glass or plexiglass? It would probably be easier to just caulk where there is a leak.
You might be able to get it out without breaking it if you are very careful.
Where do I measure it from? To see what size glass I need. And did the rubber things stay in the bottom the whole time?
The rubber stays in, yes. You would measure the frame that the glass is going within once the glazing is removed ( I don’t know if that’s any clearer ).🤷♂️
Also, which type of glass is better to use?
There are several different types of glass. I think "best practice" is to use tempered glass or laminated glass if the window is below a certain height (I think it is if it is less than 18" off the floor, where a child might hit it or fall through), which will lessen the chance of injury. Definitely contact a licensed and insured contractor though to make sure.
I have a windowsill is bowing up due to it not being lined up properly. How would i go about removing the bottom siding so i can adjust it to the correct way?
I really don’t know what you are asking here… you want to remove the siding to fix the windowsill?
can i use something like pennies to hold up the window if i dont have a rubber peice?
I would be afraid that a hard spacer could chip the glass. Also, you’d have a penny sticking out of your windows.😁
I need help please is there something else I can use other then quad osi any other recommendations
This was the product I was recommended to use from a glass installer. I would have to search online for different products that could be used that would be as effective.
@@rutterrealtygc thank I will definitely be using it then if it was recommended great video by the way
How do you measure a replacement?
Measure it with the glazing removed and subtract 1/4 inch should leave 1/8 gap around the pane.👍
where did you purchase the new glass pane?
Local glass company. I just saved on installation costs.
How long does it take to dry?
I was told by a glass installer not to clean it for 24 hours. :)
Who is the "they" that has the 1/8 strip? And why is that needed?
Dying laughing! Who IS they?! My wife always asks the SAME question.🤣 Bad habit. You can contact your local glass store where you get the glass or see if the local box store like Lowe’s or Home Depot has any thin rubber piece to cushion the glass.😊👍
Im having trouble get the window out. The metal trim is blocking me from removing it.
I guess mine didn’t have that?
Mine doesn't either, the glazing is the aluminum window
🎉🎉❤🎉🎉
Thanks for the comment!
how do i get the correct measurements?
Measure where the glass will be sitting after removing the glazing minus 1/4 should leave you 1/8 space on each side. Hope that makes sense. I just needs to not be smaller than the opening.😂
Clear caulking/silicone would look better.
The existing glazing on the top pane (and all other windows) was white, which is why I went with white.😊👍
do we have to use caulk if we have the rubber ?
Seems like a "paneless" procedure 😅 get it? Pain-pane..less.....aaaaaaw damn nvm
😆 Good one! 🤣 Love it!
Anyone silicone Cantu
I don’t know what you mean…
