As for Argentina being "favourites" for the World Cup, this is garbage... They were 5th in the pre-tournament betting behind Brazil, France, England and Spain. And the only reason they were 5th was because of Messi. Without him, they would've been 9th in the betting behind Germany, Belgium, Portugal, and Netherlands.
This was borne out by Messi winning the Golden ball for best player. He scored 7 goals (3 assists) out of Argentina's total of 15 goals. He was heavily involved in EVERY attacking move they made. Argentina's entire game plan revolved around his wizardry.
Ronaldo has always been more of an efficient finisher than a creator like Messi. He mostly relied on his speed to get in behind the defenders and then receive a pass, or he wreaked havoc out wide when afforded open space on the wing.
They're both exceptional at taking free kicks... But Messi is clearly the better all-round footballer with his ability to make top defenders look silly every time he touches the ball.
The only area in which Ronaldo is better than Messi is having a tanned, chiselled physique and being a gay icon.

I'm a fan of CR7 instead of Messi, but I have got to say Messi is the best player. His ability to just dribble past half the team is just magical. Messi brings more value to the team, while Ronaldo has slightly inflated statistics due to the team centering around him.

Ronaldo's PR team is pure talent. First he uses "Ronaldo" instead of "Aveiro", which is his actual family name, to associate himself with the more iconic football name. Then, by comparing him with the GOAT Messi, even though they are not at the same level whatsoever, he will still be remembered as the one who was Messi's rival
Respect to Messi, but my GOAT will always be Ronaldo. He went to different leagues and dominated them (in La Liga his game to goal ratio was better than Messi’s when they shared the platform), he’s managed to consistently still be a leagues best player even at the age of 37 ( this year he dipped but it was bound to happen) and most importantly he never quit his country.
To me, there is no other footballer like him. The dedication, the loyalty to his nation, and his adaptation to the game to continue at such an age is truly remarkable.
In the years they were in La Liga together, Messi dominated individual awards, team awards, and scoring records. Completely one-sided. For his country Messi has won the Olympics, and got his team to two World Cup finals. Might win one. Again completely one-sided.
