My favorite Dolly quote was when she said she paid it no mind if someone called her a dumb blonde because she knew she wasn't dumb, and she knew she wasn't blonde.
She always has a comeback. 😂 She’s the best!
My favorite quote by her is "it costs a lot of money to look this cheap"😂
I like her hair quote too: “People always ask me how long it takes to do my hair. I don't know, I'm never there.” 🤣
@@davidmhewett44
LOL... LOL... LOL...
She had so many great quotes.
Brit you should watch Dolly in Steel Magnolias
She is only about 21 here, I think that is her natural hair or there might be a hairpiece mixed in, but it was before she started wearing wigs and going for the more extravagant look she is now known for. This was Dolly's first hit. She was just as cute as could be and no wonder America fell in love with her.
This was Dolly's first big solo hit. She had been in Nashville, almost 2 years at this time. And as time has shown.....she is the GOAT!!!!!!!
I saw an interview she did several decades after this song. The interviewer asked Dolly about the dumb blonde image. Dolly's response was that she wasn't dumb ......... and she wasn't blonde either.
Dolly wrote over 500 songs. She is a national treasure. I recommend her Coat of Many Colors. Thanks love your channel.
Correction. She has now written over 4000 songs.
At least 4,000!
Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, Kitty Wells, Brenda Lee and so many ladies were so forward thinking. Give each a listen. String, talented admirable women.
Dolly had a dream and the next morning wrote a song about it. She released it on her 77th birthday. It's called Don't make me come down there. I know you'll love it.
she said she tries to keep a good attitude but “I can tell you where to put it if I don’t like where you got it” 😂. I love her!
iconic
'Hard Candy Christmas' is another Dolly song I think you'd like. All her songs are wonderful, really.
that song is amazing!
More strong groundbreaking women! Recommend Loretta Lynn's "The Pill" which was released in 1970 and radio stations tried to ban it from the airwaves but got way tooooo many requests to ignore it for long.
Written by her friend Curly Putnam who also wrote Green Green Grass of Home!
It’s the beginning of her career! She’s adorable!
she’s amazing!
I don`t know why, but usually, I don`t like to watch women`s reactions.
You are the first woman whose reactions I enjoy from A-Z!!
Dolly is an icon. Her voice is epic, as are her looks :)))
I think it`s obvious why I like this song :)))
Thank you, Britt🤗❤
I’ve been a huge Dolly fan for years! How did I miss this song all these years??
Down from Dover is a song Dolly sang back in the late ‘60’s or early ‘70’s. It was also from a time when women were finding their voices. It was controversial and a lot of radio stations refused to play it.
Dolly was one of a few notable women country singer-songwriters in the 60s and 70s that really pushed the woman power idea through their songs.
Now, Loretta Lynn did her best to empower women. Don't forget Loretta
@@sidneycrossley7802 Loretta, Tammy, Dolly - just three of them. Emmy Lou, Linda....
"Nobody's fool" is certainly the truth. Anyone who knows anything about Dolly knows she is highly intelligent & a very savvy businesswoman. Badass in a gorgeous package.
Dolly Parton was a teenage prodigy, starting her music career in the late-1950s. Her first appearance on an album was in 1963, where she recorded about 6 songs for an album that she shared with Country music singer Faye Tucker, who recorded several covers of Patsy Cline songs at the time of Cline’s death. Dolly Parton became a cast member on “The Porter Waggoner Show” in 1967 when the syndicated show began being broadcast in color. This TV performance appears to be from “The Grand Ole Opry” syndicated TV show from a 1967 episode. In the 1960s, Parton was restricted as to what she could wear for television broadcasts. Her breasts had to be completely covered and used clothes to de-emphasize her bust line. When Dolly Parton left “The Porter Waggoner Show” in 1974, she finally had total and complete control over her wardrobe and stage presentation.
wow! Thanks for the info!
Early Dolly, probably mid 60's. That voice is still unmistakable.
Dolly is a legendary person and singer/songwriter and voice that is soooo incredibly unique 🙏
TRULY
BRITT! I'm SO happy you got to Dumb Blonde. I'm sure I wasn't the only one, but I mentioned this a very long time ago, and I just knew you'd love it. You didn't mention it so I'm wondering if you caught that clever little metaphor she used, "I've found new thread, for my old spool" ... Meaning that not only did she dump him when he got too big for his own britches, she's found somebody new. 😂
I like everything about this first hit of hers, and I guess she's really young here, like 20 or 21 years old. And yeah, she's in her natural habitat, laugh. But even here, she's got almost more power in her voice then she utilized in her later career it seems, and she already had that incredible talent for that perfect country phrasing. On the beat and off the beat and the little emotional inflections, oh my God so good.
This was at the beginning of her career
Talking about how she looks, I loved it when Dolly said it takes a lot of money to look cheap lol. Love Dolly. Thanks
Loved your reaction to this! I would love to see you react to Dolly performing The Grass is Blue or Little Sparrow live!
Thanks, Roxanne! 🥰
Hey did you ever find her playing twister on that talk show?
Hi Britt 👋. DP was still part of the Porter Wagner group at this time. She would make her break out in the 70s when she left his group. Side note. Women achieved the right to vote over 100 years ago, before DP was born. DP grew up as a Christian woman just like her sisters. She's loving and kind but still strong Christian woman who won't be bullied or disrespected. I've watched her career soar and take take off since she broke away from PW. She wrote the song 🎵 "I will always love you" as a dedication to PW and her leaving and being thankful for what he has done for her. God bless you sweetie 🙏 ❤🙂👍.
The first time I first heard this was in in 1966 & 67, when it was popular. I was 15/16 years old....( I'm 72)
She and Goldie Hawn did a similarly themed duet on Laugh In called something like "Blonds aren't Necessarily Dumb".
Part of it might have been that it was still the 60's and that hairstyle and clothing style and color were the IN thing at the time. Also this was Dolly's first hit and she wasn't well known enough to dress how she wanted and create her own style yet. That happened when she joined the Porter Waggoner Show and became a household name. That's when her signature look appeared.

I'm thinking that you would absolutely love "I Feel Lucky" by Chapin Carpenter. It's your a great story song.
And I still have to lobby for Roy Clark. He was a fantastic guitarist with a unique sense of humor and fun. He mostly did country (great team-up with Johnny Cash on Folsom Prison Blues) but he also has a Spanish guitar piece that will get the blood pumping
Roy Clark - Thank God and Greyhound 🤣
Dolly in her Natural Habitat. 😂 Dave from Allen Freed hometown.
Britt, a Must for Easter!
Dolly’s live performance of: He’s Alive
She built an empire off them thinking she was a ditzy blonde and she said she played for all it was worth, straight to the bank and making mega deals. 😂😂😂
I love the pics of my mom with her hair done like this and in the same type of suits. They were so elegant and classy to me.
So many great Dolly songs - Grass Is Blue, Silver Dagger
I’m 72. My mom always said the man is the head of the house, but the mom was the neck…(head can only move with the neck!). 😁
haha love that
Love watching your reviews! This was definitely at the beginning of her career in the country music industry. She was barely 21 when this recording was made. ✌❤
thank you so much!! And 21?!?! That is crazy!
I think it was from an old clairol commercial when she sings... blondes fun.
Between 1952 and 1958 my mother a blond was married had two children AND attended community college. She was a strong woman ahead of her time. My dad was a strong man who supported mom being her best self.
He's not as well known today, but you may also want to check out C.W. McCall
Britt, during this time, Dolly had to fight hard to have her controversial songs that spoke of real life, to be recorded. To really know Dolly, you must hear the songs:
Down from Dover
The Bridge
It was 1967 when Dolly made this TV appearance my guest is she was asked to tone it down because as a child she loved makeup and dressing up trying to look like women she would see in magazines and at local beauty parlors one story she tells is she couldn't afford makeup she used coal to make eyeliner. The Dolly you have seen is the same as she has been all of her life when she had the money she could afford to look like she always wanted one of her most famous saying is it cost a lot of money to look this cheap one more fact that might blow your mind Dolly didn't write this song
❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Britt. You would love her song...Joshua. make sure you get the live version from the early 70's.
Hi Britt Dolly is great Have you ever seen the video where she does her Elvis impersonation its very funny
Try Dolly Parton doing Mule Skinner Blues
need to see a picture of you as a blonde.
I am so tired of folks thinking women were without power and influence before the1960s...We controlled the home, totally influenced our husbands and the entire next generation in the way we raised our children. My mother born in 1926 ran her own business, my grandmothers were pampered while ruling with the proverbial iron fist in the velvet glove. Women have ALWAYS had power....just a different kind.
You should react to Dolly's "Just Because I'm a Woman"
I agree, it's a great song!
I wonder if you'd be interested in hearing some of Johnny Cash's daughter's songs. She had a pretty successful career maybe not as famous as her dad, but her fame is comparable alongside artists like Barbra Mandrell, Trish Yearwood and the like here's a live performance "Roseanne Cash - Seven Year Ache (Official Music Video)" you can definitely tell she's a "Cash" lol 😆
I also like Rosanne Cash!
Joshua is a really good story song
Young!
She used to laugh at people who were distracted by her figure or blonde hair. She was a prolific songwriter, singer, and a great businesswoman. She was smart, good-humored, and felt being underrated could be used to her advantage.
Why are you using past tense when referring to Dolly? She IS very much still amongst the living.
@@donnalong402 It is ok to use the past tense even though she has not passed.
As the kids these days say, pics or it didn't happen! (But seriously, I'd love to see you as a platinum blonde ... I bet you were stunning). :) Dolly's voice is so lovely in this song, and yes, she's nobody's fool!
Dolly once said, she don't care, if somebody call her a "dumb blonde"... Cause she KNOWS, that she ain't dumb... and she ain't blonde! :-D
and that is on being THAT GIRL
I heard you say you love stories in song form. Check out Gordon Lightfoot's Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and Sundown
Britt should react to Dolly's, Romeo ft. Artists: Dolly Parton, Billy Ray Cyrus, Tanya Tucker, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Pam Tillis, Kathy Mattea Dolly is Billy Ray's daughter Miley Cyrus's Godmother.
Thanks for your reactions
You like her sassiness, try whyd you come in here looking like that. Also here you come again, and her duet with Ricky van Shelton rocking years
Even if you don't like her singing, or any country music, she is one very smart business woman. I won't say what business so people can't say that I am a promotional agent. Google search, there isn't one of her business in not in any particular state. The prices is so reasonable that you don't have to did in the ashtray in the car for change.
By the way, I am a huge fan. Not so much
of way back when she sounds like she is gargling. She is a legend in my book.
Very 60s country sound.
Don't ever call Dolly a dumb blonde.. look at her now..... go Dolly...
Facts!
She would have been 21 in 1967.
This has to be early in her career
Please don't believe everything you heard about the 50's, 60's. There were many independent thinkers. Dolly is a sterling example. We were not the dishrags we are portrayed to have been.
Gonna need a photo of your best life! Just hold one up in your next set of videos. I'm having a hard time picturing you as a blonde.
Please and thank you?
You underestimate Dolly at your own peril.
What you have heard about women in the 1960-70's is false. Sadly younger women believed the political machines. We owned the world from the voting rights amendment to the Constitution in the 1920's, had protection from men if we wanted or needed it, and there was no disrespect headed our way. The 1960's brought in the birth control pill, but in the vast majority men and women cooperated together to build a live and family together. Then came Third Way Feminism and as we acted more mannish we lost the pedestal that gave us such a view, and we tumbled to earth as mere sex objects, not treated with respect, and now have double the work load we had before. But we could control how many or if we had children. Think that is a good trade off? I don't. Divorce skyrocketed and more women live in poverty, if a women wishes to stay home with her babies that she wanted is is ostracized. Now it takes 2 incomes to support a family and women's choices have been curtailed. We are now just similar cogs in the business machine and are as under appreciated and men. Congratulations. Dolly and so many women did amazing things way back when, how do you explain that beyond their talent? They had opportunities and choices.
