Kung Fu Panda is Franchise Worst as Dune Has Not Yet Broken Even

- Based on the 2nd weekend numbers for #kungfupanda4 it is safe to say that even before adjusting for inflation it is likely to end its run $200 million behind the #boxoffice of the previous installment and will be the lowest of the franchise. Though profit for the film is likely due to a manageable budget, the same cannot yet be said for #dunepart2 which because of a large budget and stronger international vs domestic performance has still not reached its break even point #boxofficebreakdown #cabrini #movietalk

Thoughts?
I thought Kyle MacLachlan had a great plastic surgeon until I realized that wasn’t him in Dune 2.
Dune (both parts) is a legacy title which will be minting $$$$$$$$s from various revenue streams for decades.
Crazy that three weekends in Dune Part Two still hasn't broken even. I would've expected it to be the big money maker of 2024...
I know who you are , I also know that you’re subscriber to evil blonde Karen Grace Randolph CZcamsr influencer “ beyond the trailer “
For the nerds, "Dune" might be a revelation, but I think many people have difficulties to connect to the story.
A huge portion of the international numbers come from China that could be why it’s struggling
I certainly hoped so, but it's not surprising. It's a long and mature sci-fi film that doesn't spoon feed the story to you and doesn't expect you to understand everything after the first watch, but it's connecting well enough that it's holding on. It's just not nearly as accessible and straightforward as Star Wars.
how are there still over 2k theaters showing madam web?
It will be gone soon I think it’s actually available on iTunes now for anyone who’s interested
My daughters want to go see both ghostbusters and Godzilla over the Easter break, I hadn’t planned on seeing either to be honest , but we usually go as a family so I guess I am going . My eldest just saw imaginary with her friends which she wasn’t pleased about so I think she’s hoping to get the bad taste of that one out of her mouth . We haven’t have been together as a family since I Wonka so it’s been a while , my partner and I saw dune with our eldest girls , we don’t take our youngest girls to any movie over 2 hours we tried once never again.
Going to Canada over Easter to see my grandmother so we will probably go when we are over there most likely , not looking forward to it though I was bored stiff by the predecessors of both movies.
Good video...always enjoys these breakdowns. I do think Dune Part II is closer to the profit side than we may think. I think the estimated 55% that you provided is a bit too low, based on how the booking department of the theater chain I worked for back in the day broke it down for me. Going by what she said, the studio keeps on average about 95% of the total week 1 gross (not just the weekend), about 90% of week 2, and it continues to decrease about 5% each week. Doing that math for the domestic numbers, and adding in the 40% of the international total, I think it may be at about even, or close to it.
Yeah that’s why my chart still uses that metric. But after Covid things have changed because of shorter theatrical windows
As I pointed out previously, Dune 2 international is tracking 1.4x compared to the domestic, Oppenheimer’s international numbers were 1.9x. So, even though the domestic is only 10% behind, international is much more. My understanding is Legendary will not green light a 3rd movie unless the profit for Part 2 also makes up for the losses of Part 1.
But as I said last week, it was only 9% behind WW
I wonder if Legendary is including the check they got from WB for going day and date on Dune
I think i got it right a couple of weeks ago when i said around 700M, maybe even a bit more. Is tracking well ahead of Wonka and that movie made almost 630M.
I'm not surprised about Dune, it seems to be an acquired taste for a Movie.
It's a Movie for people that Love Jihadists.
Wait, Dune 2 didn't break even yet? I'm actually surprised with how good I hear people say it is. Also Kung Fu Panda doesn't surprise me, let's be honest it was going to do good based on brand name alone.
It hasn’t broken even yet and it needs to gross between $600 million - $700 million at box office in order to break even against production budget of $190 million
@@ahmadmohammed4212 Ok thank you 👍
Should have released it in July.
@@edselgreaves6503 and yet , WBD’s barbie came out in July 2023 during the writers and the actors strikes , pay attention
True, but nobody really expected those dual strikes to happen so it's more of a unique situation 😅
I don't understand the attraction of "Kung Fu Panda". Just another animated gimmick tailored for children and their parent's money.
It’s amazing
It definitely earned it's audience based on the quality and simolicity of at least the first two (haven't seen 3 yet). The fourth one was gonna do well because it's a trusted franchise, regardless of how good it actually is (which it doesn't seem to be very good).
Why ? because it’s animated you people I swear and this comment right here lets me know that you don’t know what the hell you’re talking.. About 😂😂😂
@@Tylermiller778 Animation can be outstanding. This? Not so much. Your hystertical ad hom response is insufficient in pointing put exactly how I'm incorrect.
Anthing else is bullshit.
Nice try.🙃
18:51 why would they make another Kung Fu Panda 4?
Great question
How sad that number 11 in ticket sales couldn't even break 1 million....
Dune part 2 has a little more time before Easter, when Monsterverse and Ghostbusters take over.
Looking forward to both.
I don't think Ghostbusters is going to do that well. Its predictions keep lowering. But maybe it could pick up with positive word of mouth.
According to some box office theorists apparently the ticket presales are pretty solid for Godzilla×Kong which could lead to a potential 60-65 milion domestic opening.
Saw you on nerdrotic, subscribing to all you guys. Thanks.
Can we stop putting Awkwafina in movies? She always plays the same obnoxious quirky annoying character
Ask universal and Disney about that
She's even more forced than Zendaya.
Dune part 2 will be the film I’ll be supporting the most since Alita Battle Angel. It deserves so much more. Such a good movie. And Paul has become one of my top 10 all time favorite characters.
Looks like Dune is gona end up in the 650-700 milion range worldwide. I expect its box office to start slowing down in the coming weeks especially with Ghostbusters and Godzilla×Kong.
I still need to go see Cabrini, on your recommendation!
Went and saw Arthur the King and One Life this past weekend. Arthur the King was entertaining. Mark Wahlberg was his usual Mark Wahlberg self and the dog was quite endearing. One Life was very moving. Sir Anthony Hopkins brought another great performance and the story is very compelling if you don't know it. If you get a chance to see it, highly recommend
On March 15th the world wide take for Dune 2 was $398 million. Then by March 17th, the world wide take added almost $100 million. In 2 days?! Is that normal?
Yep. International numbers are usually only updated weekly vs daily
I honestly thought Cabrini would do much better. That makes me sad.
The middle of this week Dune 2 will break even them drops been fantastic
Lol at the way the title of the film keeps getting censored. It's not a curse word, but I understand.
Seriously, it's literally just the Spanish word for "black" and used to be how people referred to themselves in a respectable manner (as opposed to other, actually derogatory terms), but I shouldn't expect a nuanced and informed understanding of history from the kind of person who would honestly get mad at this.

Ghostbusters will demolish both I can just see it
To be honest , when ramadan in Middle East countries begun last Monday , it meant that they won’t be able to watch any Hollywood movies meaning theaters there are closed until April 11th , I also knew that ramadan would caused huge negative impact on world wide box office
Have you seen any movies lately
Yep, check out my Criticless page for written reviews
Think dune ends up around 290-300m domestically , maybe around 700m ww not gangbusters but decent. The problem is unless you are seemingly James Cameron or Chris Nolan if you have a 200m dollar budget I’m not sure how much of a profit you can actually expect to make , budgets are just far too high .
Dune 2, production cost, 190 million, advertising cost 100 million, in order to break even that’s 300 million dollars, film is 4 million dollars short of 500 million, it’s already made some profit, studios like ant man 290 million dollars production budget, plus advertising was 300 million means u need to make 600 million dollars which it didn’t, garbage movies, massive flops, dune probably top out at close to 700 million, maybe 750, if that happens massive success considering it’s not even released on dvd sale yet, which also goes into revues, usually good movies make half it’s box office in net in streaming release, it made money 💴 the production company is lying already they just want to capitalize on threatening to not make anymore, to help negotiate there huge massive losses they keep pumping out.
Watch the video. Your math is wrong
by what? its posted on google, 190 production budget+ 100 million in advertisement costs, give or take 10 million in possible clinical errors, that's 300 million safe to just break even, its at 506 million slightly over half a billion its roughly made 100+ million in revenue. @@OMBReviews
Dune 2 has a brilliant hold in my country, dropped only 24%, the lowest in the world. Not surprised. But a budget of 190 million is enormous.
From what I understood, budget went up only because they shot movie during Covid and overall prices went up. Without it the second Dune would had the same budget as first part.
190 million isn’t really that much .
@Anthony33431 it is a lot. It's just affordable in comparison to most modern blockbusters that spend like a drunken sailor. This film felt very economical in comparuson for what it was trying to accomplish, and it actually looks like it has quality effects, unlike so many movies that spent significantly more in recent memory (looking at you, Marvel).
Disappointing to hear Dune isn't doing as well as I would have liked, but at least it's holding strong. it's not all surprising, though. It's a mature sci-fi movie that doesn't spoon feed the story or its cbaracter motivations, and it isn't afraid to leave you with questions. Add on top the fact that it's a long movie that's not very fast paced until the end, all of which isn't really friendly to the average normie with questionable attention spans (not being pretentious, but there's no denying that its density, length, and inaccessibility to the average moviegoer are relevant factors). Good to hear that it's popular enough to hold on with such packed competition this month, though. I have a feeling that this will be a movie that many people would rather wait for streaming to watch such a long movie so they can freely pause, get up, and take a break whenever they want. Here's hoping it ends well in the box office, but I wouldn't be surprised if it also does well on streaming and home release.
china is only 20m of the total 494m so 2.5x the budget to get budget + ad = 475m so its at break even.
Watch the video
Dune 2 cost 190 million and has made 490 million it’s made a profit .
You gotta fact in China though it takes a lot of its total because you only get 25% of it
Watch the video
Kung Fu panda was good but not great Dune part 2 was excellent!! Can't wait for part 3!!!!
