- Do the Earth and the Moon have a rocky relationship? On this explainer, Neil deGrasse Tyson and comic co-host Chuck Nice explore the Moon’s history with the Earth and what we have in store with our orbiting partner. What did the formation of the Moon look like?
We break down how the Moon formed in our early solar system. Was the Moon always as far away from the Earth? Take a journey to the early days of the Earth’s and the Moon’s formation. What did the Moon rise look like? What were early Earth's tides like? We get into the Earth and the Moon’s rocky past and uncertain future. Is the Earth slowing? Was the Moon always tidally locked to the Earth? What does our future with the Moon look like? All that and more on another StarTalk explainer!

I understand Chuck isn't always available for each show but he has the best chemistry and jokes with Neil. Love these two together, knowledge plus comedy!
yeah, sadly Chuck is often in the show so we only get dad jokes with a little knowledge sprinkled on top.
Yea, I honestly struggle watching videos without Chuck, and I just gave up on doing so. If it was just Neil I would not mind, but another comedy relief other than Chuck it simply doesn't work for me. They have the perfect balance.
Agreed
think about 8 kilometres tall tidal waves
above mount everest perhaps even taller.
Chuck is a freaking genius in this one! I literally laughed out loud. 😂😂😂

Isn't that the only way to laugh?
As the world turns. LOL! =)
Absolutely hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Chuck got Neil crying laughing over there XD
Neil: Emotionally sensitive tidal forces...
Chuck: It's about to go down :)
Played to the Righteous Brothers singing "You've lost that loving feeling".
So what happens to the Earth and moon after a double title lock.
@@dirty30productions8 I want to know that and how long it will be before a double tidal lock.

Chuck, whenever I'm feeling down and out, all I have to do is tune into StarTalk and listen to you. You make me feel better. Keeps up with those hilarious jokes! I also get an education listening to Neil. Thanks you guys!
Your not the only one 😍
You are not at all alone
“As the world turns” Gotta enjoy the puns & references when it comes to science 🧬
that would make a great title for Neil's next book or a really catchy name for the next overly-dramatic drama on netflix.
The rotation of the Earth really makes my day.
@@setsunaes for a book yes, though there is a soap opera with that name, so there is the potential of a copyright issue
@@YoukaiSlayer12 There are actually several movies and shows that share titles/names... SO I doubt the title alone would earn a copyright issue, so long as it was fairly obvious you weren't ripping off the original show... If you look for it (for instance, off the top of my head) there are two "Running Scared" movies, but only one is a detective action-comedy with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines... I've forgotten what the other was, but by the same title, and nobody sued to my knowledge... you can still go after and get either one without serious issue. ;o)
That was good acting on Chuck when he was talking about the distance between the Earth and the Moon. His eyes were watery.

thats not just acting. that's when real emotions bleed through
Acting lol

We need "Moon: A Love Story" by Chuck Nice.
Please.

That's Amore
Chuck killed this episode
This one was freaking hilarious, I'm crying.
No
So if it was a sad episode you would be laughing?
I've never seen Neil and Chuck fall apart this much :D It's great!
it probably happens more often but gets edited to keep the Explainer short
you should see their video about inventing a new power for superman :)
“You’re so distant" 😭😂😭😂😂

Best line I've ever seen on this entire show
Thank god, Chuck is back. Gonna be a good day.
He's ALWAYS with Neil for these explainer vids tho!
And he makes it better all the time

The Moon and Earth have a real rocky relationship!
This was one of the greatest explainer videos! Absolutely great
Truly.
I laughed so hard during this episode!! :-D Thank you guys so much for having fun together and enjoying yourselves while teaching us about all this cool stuff!!
Too bad the jokes are scripted and rehearsed . Otherwise the laughter would be real 😄
Chuck was absolutely inspired for this episode 😅 love their interaction
I love Neil’s laugh.
Having fun with science. Great, if only my maths teacher was this fun, I would been a scientist
Best message one link czcams.com/video/rLZ7y0C1MZw/video.html
I was LIVING for the tea between earth and moon. I need the next chapter 🤣🤣🤣
Your show is so amazing that I decided to extend my battery bank to be able to binge watch the show…again and again! The sun is doing it’s magic, my solar panels are charging my batteries and I am using this energy to watch you guys. That’s what I call cosmic energy well used! Right? Keep on rocking! Maybe you could do an episode about solar energy and how it works?
You are both incredibly inspirational, thank you for continuously sharing fascinating scientific ideas
I definitely have to stop watching this while i'm eating. I swear i risked suffocation by laughing. Chuck, you're a genius :-)
I’m so glad I found this channel I’m only 17 and Neil and Chuck has once again sparked my curiosity and ambition to learn about space! Thank you chuck for making Physics hilarious 😂😂
You're lucky kiddo. Your children WILL walk on the moon. Keep learning, Keep dreaming.
The naming of the colliding body is one of my favorites. It's truly poetic.
Theia is named after the Greek Titaness (a goddess) of luster and sight, wife of Hyperion (Titan god of Heavenly Light).
She was the mother of Dawn (Eos), the Sun (Helios), and the Moon (Selene).
Best message one link czcams.com/video/rLZ7y0C1MZw/video.html
I named my horse Theia. She has one brown eye and one blue eye. 💙
That's fine Theiaology!
“I especially enjoy your videos about the moon!”, Luna
"As the world turns", the next NYT Neil deGrasse Tyson best-selling book.
Chuck is on 🔥🔥🔥 today! Perfect comedic timing!
One of the best episodes by far. Chuck raised the bar again. Neil always amazes me with knowledge. Great job guys!
As The World Turns. LOL. Brought it home, like the pro he is. That was amazing.
Chuck turned the relationship between the Earth and Moon into a Lifetime movie. Nice!
It's episodes like this that make me glad Chuck is the co-host.
Love these two together! Knowledge and laughs make a great combo.
Thank you! I thought I knew how the moon formed, but I learned a lot from this vlog :) It raises lots of questions, like how long until the earth is tidally locked as well as the moon? (will it happen before we are fried by our son's death?) And was there liquid water on the surface of the earth when that collision happened?
My question would be about where will the moon stop when the double tidal lock thing happens. Like from which countries will you be able to see it, or even better which continents, also considering continental drift.
Honestly, Neil and Chuck are the best of both knowledge and humor and together they make an absolutely enjoyable experience. 11 out 10 stars, would reccomend this product to everyone
These explainer videos always blew my mind! I love it!
This is the perfect dynamic for NdT. He is an amazing teacher, and chuck is the student amazing stuff
Chuck completely won me over with this one episode
Chuck should consider writing a script for a planet/moon-themed animated sitcom.
Absolute best and most entertaining channel on CZcams! The chemistry between Neil and Chuck is straight gold!! You learn while laughing hysterically. This really needs to be on some TV channel.
THE BEST informative scientifique channel I've ever seen. Not only 1 of the best astrophysicist but a comedien that makes us want to watch and rewatch the episodes. Thx for the show guys !
I love when it's just Chuck your guys's relationship comes through really well
I'm still laughing 🤣🤣🤣. How come school wasn't like this, we may have all learned something!

How does this video have 2 dislikes already? It hasn't even been out longer than it takes to watch the video. Keep looking up!
Flat earthers here early for this one 😂😂
What a show. Loved it. Both so witty and fun. Great one guys
I absolutely enjoy tuning in to every single podcast. You are the best Neil. You’ve always been a true inspiration to me.
Thank you for another upload. Definitely appreciate all the work.
This channel is the best mix of science, poetry and comedy on youtube. Can't wait till we return to the moon with modern HD cameras and explore the ocean on Europa. And imagine if we find worms or bacteria under the soil on Mars.
Loved the show Dr. Tyson, you two are awesome together!! But, I do have a comment on a point of confusion during the show. First you stated that the moon was possibly formed in a matter of years after the impact of the other planetary body. The you stated that the tidal forces would be thousands of time greater at the closer distance. The question is, would earth even have water on the surface at that time to have an impact of the land masses?? I would think the impact would vaporize all of the liquid water. Not trying to be smart, just wondering. Thanks again for an awesome show!!
Moon formed before Earth had water. The moon formed 100 million years after Earth was formed whereas Earth had water on its surface 600 million years after moon was formed. It took 3.8 billion years for Earth's oceans and moon's gravity to distance moon to where it is now.
One of the best episodes.
Excellent info and a show pitch
I don't remember how long I've been a fan of this channel but I came for the Neil and stayed the Chuck 🤣 I've learnt and laughed a lot because of these two 👍🏽
A science made both interesting and funny! Keep up good work. I really like your explainer videos :)
Gotta love these guys. You know it's good when your laughing and learning at the same time
Would you actually feel lighter with the closer-in Moon overhead?
Yes, today only about 0.032% of gravity - not noticeable. But when the moon was 20 times closer it would be about 13% of earth’s gravity!
And humans think that I’m only good at catching frisbees.
That was great! The best educational CZcams channel out there👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
The perfect combination of knowledge and fun. Thank you guys!!!!!
I really, really, really enjoyed watching you two have fun. Thank you!
I’m so glad you guys do this show. Ty so much for sharing your intelligence and Comedy 🎭, on all your episodes. Y’all brought a smile to my face tonight on this one! Love you guys to Luna and back!!!
I love this one!!! Chuck was amazing!! :-D :-D
I really enjoy this educational program. Has this show ever explored the topic of the speed of dark being faster than the speed of light? I think it would be an incredibly interesting topic.
That "As the World Turns" bit was pure gold. You guys are hilarious.
Chuck made himself cry 😂 damn…
5:32 Great bit from Chuck. Our own little play
I love this episode! Watched it few times already.
It is always great to see you guys.
You two are hilarious! Thank you Chuck and THANK YOU Neil!!! Love the show
Another great show! Chuck, your show is the best!
I love knowledge and laughter so yes I'm watching Startalk again lol
One of the most memorable episodes on @StarTalk. I've watched it couple of times.
You should totally do an explainer on the formation of planets
I'm always impressed by how smart Chuck is!
Who else can make you smarter, make you cry laughing and cheer you up all at omce?!🤣
Thank you so much you were amazing tonight in orlando!!!! Keep looking up
I’m cracking up 😂. Star Talk is awesome!!!
I don't know what I like more, the learning or the occasional LoL because of these 2 cracking each other up... It's so refreshing to see a heavy subject being treated with such genuine levity, making it almost entertaining while imparting that knowledge
This was definitely the best episode so far!
Totally ❤

Speaking of moons: I just read something about the earth having a second moon for the next 300 years. Please tell us more Neil!
Chucks relationship rehab......so fkn funny, this guy is a genius 😂
Its always nice to have a scientist and a comedian work together to explain science. Makes science so fun to learn lol. Now that I think about it, schools should start having two teachers in class lol so one could ask the questions for us while the other does the explaining. I would've probably learned so much more from school that way lol.
Hilarious, Chuck has me crying. And I always learn something!!
I swear I love Chuck. I search for episodes with him as the co host.🤣
Chuck has just been getting better and better. The jokes and questions have improved so much
Hands down the best episode. There is more comedy in it than in any comedy show without loosing its educational value.
Someone NEEDS to animate Chuck as the moon please!
Sandee Brooke, Tucson. The show about the Moon #2 may be the best/funniest show Dr Neil, and Lord Chuck ever did. I learned more about the Moon and laughed out loud. Thank You, I love you both ❤️
Everyone says it but ill say it anyway, what a pair! Just feels familiar to play a Startalk with Neil n Chuck. Also the little bit at the end after the "credits" was nice. More of those little bits!
"As the world turns". That moment of pure hilarity. Love their authentic bond.
Neil and Chuck are tidally locked with each other for our benefit !!! :)
this was a great one
The amount of puns is just brilliant lol
Neil is one of the greatest, smartest, and coolest people of our time, possibly of all times. Thank you for making us smarter.
This is the funniest one I've ever been seen. Been binging these for like 10 hours
Chuck Nice was just AWESOME!!
This was a stand-out episode for eye-watering laughter, that's for sure! Informative and hilarious!
There MUST be some Star Talk T-shirt ideas in this one.
Thank you Chuck. You made my day.
Chuck was technically higher than the tides 😂😂
They both have red eyes 😂
This is awesome! What a great combination!
"it's called twilight, Chuck, use the word"... That was savage.
Chuck had me in stitches 😂 great video!
Chuck, I like that Philly shirt!!! 🦅
Love this show!💜🙏🏽☀️
Chuck nice was on fire. Dude was en fuego. He was hilarious! Dr. Tyson, the Mars like impact event that skipped off the earth and kept going... trimming away some of earth's fat; I've never heard about this before. Could we do an explainer on this please?
Chuck is the best! He is the reason I watch!!
