Ingredients for pork egg rolls:
2-1/2 Cups (591.47ml) ** barbecued pork (ground or finely chopped)
Option: Ground pork, chicken or shrimp (Stir fry meat, season with salt and pepper, cook till done, cool in refrigerator).
16 Cups (3.79L) Coleslaw or finely chopped cabbage and carrots
1 Cup (236.59ml) Green onions chopped
2 Teaspoons (9.86ml) Salt
2 Teaspoons (9.86ml) Sugar
1/4 Teaspoon (1.23ml) White pepper powder
1/4 Teaspoon (1.23ml) 5 spice- powder
1/4 Teaspoon (1.23ml) Sesame oil
Egg roll wraps
1 egg
Ingredients for vegetable egg rolls:
16 Cups (3.79L) Coleslaw or finely chopped cabbage and carrots
2-3 Cups (473.18- 709.76ml) Kale chopped (less qty or omit if desired)
1 Cup (236.59ml) Green onions chopped
1 Cup (236.59ml) Shiitake mushroom (Soak in hot water for 1/2 hour, wring dry and chopped)
2 Teaspoons (9.86ml) Salt
2 Teaspoons (9.86ml) Sugar
1/4 Teaspoon (1.23ml) White pepper powder
1/4 Teaspoon (1.23ml) 5 spice- powder
1/4 Teaspoon (1.23ml) Sesame oil
Optional veggies: Jicama, waterchestnuts, bean sprouts, jumbo onions
Egg roll wraps
1 egg
Instructions:
1. Cook coleslaw or cabbage/ carrot in boiling water for 6- 7 minutes.
2. Put in colander to drain and run cold water until mixture is cool.
3. Compress and wring out as much water as possible. Excess moisture will make egg rolls soggy!
4. Add in and mix remaining ingredients and seasoning.
5. Wrap as instructed. Tip: Pack filling as tight as possible without tearing wrapper. As some wraps are more delicate and will tear or crack if not handled with care. May have to experiment with different brands of wraps.
6. Heat oil to 350°-370° F (176.7°- 187.8°C) and deep fry for 6-7 minutes or until golden brown.
7. Serve with sweet & sour sauce or sweet chili sauce.
8. Par fry additional egg rolls and freeze for later use.

I can’t wait to try the veggie one! Been looking for an authentic egg roll recipe and most of the ones I’ve tried haven’t turned out good but this is the first one I’ve heard you should boil the coleslaw 😱 it looks so good! Thanks for sharing!

Yummmy😋
Thanks chef, you are blessed, love your cooking
Hello again. You’re welcome. Happy woking!!! 😃
I FINALLY know why they are called 'egg rolls' now!!!!!! Thank you. I made these yesterday using ground pork. My hands aren't that strong wringing out the slaw, I did the best I could then lay the slaw out on sheet pans with a rack and placed uncovered in the refrigerator for 6 hours to dry out, it really did the job. I added a bit of tree fungus I soaked. Absolutely the best egg roll I've ever tasted.
I had some left over wrappers so I sliced some French Toast and a bit of cooked bacon in them I had extra from breakfast. I froze after frying and will have them with syrup when I need a quick snack.
Awesome everything turned out great. Thanks for watching 😃

Hello from Ottawa, Ontario! Thank you for this video. I made these tonight and they turned out really well. Although I didn't use the 5 spice blend (this time) and ended up with a bit less cabbage than I think I should have, they were a hit! Next up... shrimp dumplings.
Awesome to hear that they turned out for you. Thanks for watching. I appreciate the support 😃
He is the best. My favorite.
Thanks for watching Carmen. I appreciate the support 😃

Dude! You used to deliver your amazing food right to my front door in Columbia Heights! You may remember me. I had the big, black lab that would join me when I answered the door. He had ear problems and several times his head was wrapped in bandages. You always said hello to him and even commented on his bandages.
I always ordered my Szechuan Beef extra spicy...and it always was! I ordered my beef Lo Mein with extra beef...and you gave me a cow!
Dragon House was the BEST Chinese food in the near north suburbs of Minneapolis and it's the only thing I miss living in Columbia Heights!
Great to see this channel on CZcams!!!
Hi David. Yes I totally remember you and your dog. Great to hear from you. Thanks for watching. Take care!!! 😃
Chef Petey, Thanks for sharing. I learned to make egg rolls your way years ago, but needed a refresher class. I use both pork and shrimp. My recipe is so large, that I do a double fry, so I can vacuum seal them in freezer bags to have several meals out of-- even then they don't last too long. When I went to HMart today to get the large wrappers we had trouble finding them. Turns out they're having trouble getting them or selling out still. So I picked up 5 bags and stuck some in the freezer for later. Again-- Thanks so much!
Hi Mary. Thanks for chiming in. Great idea with freezing them It’s a lot of work but well worth it.
I MADE THESE THE OTHER DAY AND EVERYONE WENT CRAZY FOR THEM !! THEY WERE SOOO GOOD !!
Thanks for the feedback. So glad they were awesome!!! 😃
Beautiful
is this not like the sweetest guys ever! and he likes cats yay! :)
Thank you for chiming in. I love cats. I actually have 2. May get more 😂
New subbie......love watching Asian cooking...we don't have any Asian eating places where I live and miss it!!!
Thanks for subscribing. More on the way. Happy woking!! 😀
Loving the videos. They make my mouth water everytime. It would be awesome if you could make Singapore Rice Noodles!
More for my to-do list!! Thanks for watching 😃
Great Video! Chef Petey is the best! My family loves Chinese food, and Petey's recipes and techniques are the closest to a real Chinese restaurant at home! Wish he had Dragon House Restaurant t shirts for Merch!
Thanks for watching. I have Dragon House T shirts for sale. Check the end of the video and/ or the description box for details. I appreciate the support 😃

Puerto Rico?!! Whoo hoo!! Thanks for watching 😃
Your the gift that keeps on giving this Holiday
My local Chinese place told me to tell you to “knock it off” 😝
Hahahaha
If we still ran out family restaurant, I probably wouldn’t want some internet dude showing all of his secrets either. 😂
Finally the moment I have been waiting for! 😁 I can't wait to try making these for myself. Thanks as always for sharing your cooking wisdom with us! Are these how you would've made them at Dragon House? Also is there a brand of five spice you would recommend? I wasn't a huge fan of the Asian Gourmet brand. It had a strong licorice taste.
Hey Chris. Yes that’s pretty much how we used to make them but we used an industrial wine-making grape press to extract water while producing literally hundreds of these bad boys!!! Honestly hated making egg rolls cus they’re so labor intensive.
No particular brand of 5- spice powder but moderation is the key. Too much will overwhelm them. Have fun making egg rolls my friend. Peace out. 😃
I like Dynasty Brand 5 Spice, they actually have 7 spices in it. A little goes A LONG way!!
Another great dish mate.I am going to have a go at this can’t thank you enough. Take care stay safe. Here in Australia 🇦🇺 we have one state Melbourne locked down Hot spots all in the inner city high raise. In NSW not in lock down. We are being very carefully as I am high risk.God bless
Hello again Des. Yep really wishing this nightmare to be over soon. Especially for you and the rest of the high risk individuals. Take care. Talk to you soon. 😃
I’ll be making these tomorrow.
Thanks for watching. Good luck. 😃
Wow tyryty.i just did the veggie version/spring roll .came out awesome.
Thanks for watching Frank. So glad they came out great for you. I appreciate the support 😃
Thanks for sharing. When I first started making egg rolls, I used the slaw bag. Now I buy my veggies from Whole Foods Farmers Market. Shred my carrots & cabbage in the food processor and sauté them in the wok with garlic, onion, & other aromatics. My egg rolls taste so much better. Takes longer, but worth the time consuming effort!
Thanks for chiming in Annette. So glad you liked the recipe. I appreciate the support 😃
Now I am hungry for egg rolls thank you💖
Thanks for watching 😃
So excited to find your video. I just mixed everything up. Cant wait to get these fried up!! 😋
Great to hear. Thanks for watching. Enjoy!!😃
I just discovered your channel and I’m so excited to try your recipes! I’m a Filipina/Italian and have an extended Khmer family and I tend to cook with a lot of oyster sauce and fish sauce. I can never get enough of new Asian recipes to try 😋
I will definitely be cooking your recipes. Thank you for sharing your skills 👩🏽🍳💋
I am happy you found me. Thanks for watching 😃
These are the best egg rolls ever. Right before you closed the Dragon House me and my husband ordered a bunch and froze them. We were sad when the last ones were eaten. Thank you for your recipes
Hi Sandy. Thanks for the support. Now you can make them at home. YAY!!! 😃
Boy that’s a lot of work for an egg roll but I love them. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah lots of work. It used to take us all day to make hundreds of egg rolls and we’d sell out in a few days. Thanks for watching 😃
I am old enough to remember when an egg roll from a Chinese restaurant was a huge treat. Now they are just soggy cabbage. So I have been experimenting making my own home made egg rolls following recipes on CZcams. The ones I have made so far have been all right but not very flavorful. I am going to try your recipe as it contains more interesting savory ingredients. Thank you for posting this.
Thanks for watching. Hope you like the recipe. 😃
A Lot Of Work, oh why yes it is. I started yesturday. I used salt to drain the water from the cabbage/carrots/celery. Plus Homemade wraps. When its ready, I'm certian its gonna be really good. I put on viberational tones, setting the mood.
Yours looks really good.
Thanks, ideas are great.
Thanks for watching.
Thank you sooo much!!!
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching 😃
Here in Indonesia
I'm never seen vegetable egg rolls that big
Thank you for the recipe, i could take this for lunch everywhere
Indonesia?!!! Yay. Thanks for watching 😃
I really love your videos. I can’t wait to try this recipe. In the Midwest, some Chinese restaurants put peanut butter in their egg rolls. It’s definitely not authentic, but it’s delicious. Have you ever tried that version? Hope all is well! 💗 thanks for the content, chef!
Peanut butter?!! No way. I’ll have to try it (someday)!! Thanks for watching 😃
@@jagabaya123 yes! It’s mostly popular in the Midwest! 💗
Chef would make orange chicken is my childrens favorite dish and mine are wonton soup 🍲 sea food 🍲 egg drop 🍲 bbq pork sweet and sawer pork. Thanks for all the delicious dishes all your cooking brings me wonderful memories from childhood. Stay safe.
Thanks for chiming in Edith. More recipes on the way!! Thanks for watching 😃

A big hello from Minnesota!! Welcome aboard. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate the support 😃
WOW !! MINNIE IS PRETTY !! SHE IS A HEMMINGWAY CAT ! HOW AWESOME !
She is a Calico. Yeah she’s a sweetie. Loves to cuddle!!! ❤️
I had a very close Vietnamese friend who's wife would make me pork Vietnamese egg rolls. She made a monster out of me they were so good!!! Are these anything like them? Regardless, I'm going to try yours. I love your demeanor! Thank you for thinking of us and sharing your expertise with us!!! Kevin from Oregon.
Thanks for chiming in Kevin. Chinese egg rolls are quite different than Vietnamese ones. Ingredients are different and as the taste. Hope you like these. 😃
Yaaay I'm glad you doing this video thanks for the authentic meals you post super delicious! 😁👍😁👍😁👍
Hey Jessie. Awesome that you find the videos helpful. I’m all about inspiring everyone to cook easy, quick and healthy dishes at home. And to top it off, to save money for families during these unprecedented times. Thanks for your support 😃
Thank u so much! For blessing us with receipes of healthy cooking! I love this during this pandemic, making all cooks smile 😃
My absolute pleasure. Thanks for watching 😃
Never knew to do that with cabbage. No wonder mine were not crispy. TFS
Been loving your channel
Yes cabbage is best for egg rolls. Thanks for watching.
Id like to see Almond Chicken, Hong Shu Gai, Pepper Steak and Egg Drop Soup. Thank you. Great Videos!
I made and posted the Almond chicken recipe yesterday. czcams.com/video/5QW7iVH2yvM/video.html

Egg drop soup on the way. Thanks for dropping by Fred. 😃
Kitty gets an instant thumbs up! :) You are making alot of egg rolls. Who gets to eat them all? :)
I usually give them away.
😋wheres mine !?? Pete🎏nice job and thanks
Hahahaha Make it yourself Ross!! Thanks for watching. 😃
Thanks for sharing your recipe...I could always taste cinnamon in the local place I get my egg rolls from...thanks for letting us know the 5 spice...ill have to check out the local Chinese store where I get my egg roll wrappers...
Thanks for watching Brenda. Yeah 5 spice powder is the secret ingredient in traditional egg rolls. I hope you get a chance to try it. Best of luck. 😃
👍😃
Three for Three. Family loved them. I wish we didn't live in such a heavy spanish area, hard to get good Asian ingredients. The egg roll wraps were on the small side, and I did half your recipe, and still managed to make 13 Egg Rolls! Need more salt and less 5 spice next time too.
Yeah sometimes it’s a challenge when it comes to getting Asian supplies. But good to hear it worked out for you guys. 😃
First time visitor, now subscriber. 🙂 Wondering if you'd do a video on General Tso's Chicken along with the sauce. Thanks so much. I posted here, didnt see any contact info any where.
Hey Barbara. Thanks for subscribing. I have an awesome general chicken recipe. More going on the to-do list I guess. I appreciate the support 😃
I sure miss your restaurant used to get chicken chow mein and eggs rolls at least 3 times a month will have to try both recipes !
Wow a regular!!! Yep now you can cook your own. Thanks for watching 😃
love cat!
How can I get you to come to my house and make me some egg rolls? Those are the authentic egg rolls not those cheap things chinese restaurants are trying to pass off. Great videos and you explain everything so it is easy for anyone to make your recipes. Thank you!
Hahahaha be right over.
Thanks for watching 😃
Love spring rolls good video just a shame I can't cook
It’s really not that hard Mark. Hope you give it a shot. Thanks for watching 😃
@@jagabaya123 yeah mark anybody can cook, just gotta fallow instructions mijo and you’ll be fine ;p
Thank you for your videos! What kind of oil do you deep fry them in?
Chef Petey, thank you! I've just made these (vegetables for me and pork for my mother). My mother said that they are better than the local Chinese restaurant.
Would you show your pantry and tell us what would be essential items to keep in stock for your recipes.
Am I able to substitute tofu for protein in other of your recipes? Love Minnie, she and all of her toes are gorgeous.
Hey Sheryl. Thanks for the feedback. So glad the recipe worked out for you guys. Yes tofu is a great option for a protein substitute.
Basic supplies you should have on hand: light soy sauce (Pearl River Bridge brand), dark soy sauce (same PRB brand), sesame oil, oyster sauce (Lee Kum Kee), hoisin sauce (same), ginger, garlic, white pepper powder, rice wine, and prob 5-spice powder at a later point. Obviously this will depend on what you like to cook. But I always have these basic things in my kitchen. Hope that helps.
Yep love my little baby kitty. Thanks for watching. I appreciate the support 😃
Best part of video is watching you eat..lol
Thanks for watching Marcia. Yep I enjoy eating as much as you enjoy watching me eat!! 😂
I want to be a great cook like you sir.
Thanks for chiming in John. With easy recipes, anyone can be a great cook. I appreciate the support 😃
Can you one day show how to make garlic sauce and the dipping sauce for dumplings, great channel
Not sure what garlic sauce you’re referring to but I shared a black bean garlic paste in Pepper Steak vid: czcams.com/video/6Dy2U91b9Ec/video.html
And my dipping sauce recipe is in the siu mai vid: czcams.com/video/0xVc8Cojh68/video.html
Thanks for watching 😃
Thank you!!!!!! One of my favorites! 💖
Thanks for dropping by Angel. Thanks for the support 😃
Hi, Mini!
I don't eat pork so I cook the ground beef first, then in a bowl mix the uncooked coleslaw mix with the hot meat causing it to wilt slightly while having a little crunch. Cooking the cabbage makes it too soft and mushy for me.
Yeah not cooking the cabbage will also work. Thanks for watching!
I love your channel you are such a talented chef! I have a question.. I have had egg rolls two different way. The most common one you see which are smaller and pretty much smooth on the outside but brown. I have also had them from a authentic Chinese restaurant and they are bigger and king of bubbly light crunchy on the outside which seem more like yours. I tried making them like you do and they aren't so bubbly and light and crunchy what am I doing wring and what is the difference? Thank you very much for all you do to help us newbie chefs have a wonderful day.
Thanks for watching Paul. I believe those are spring rolls you are referring to. Spring roll wraps are made of rice paper. Whereas egg roll wraps are flour based. I may have to do a spring roll video soon.
@@jagabaya123 Thank you so much for your quick response! So the egg roll wrappers get much crispier than spring roll wrappers?
Making his egg roll, and egg foo young with Dragon House Gravy recipe for my aunt, and mom who recently moved back home. If they think they love Asian Cuisine wait to they taste this homemade recipe. Joke: "I'll will be the favorite for years to come 😆 🤣 😂!
Thanks for watching. Glad you found my recipes. Happy woking!! 😃

Wow Chef Petey, you are a master chef, I tried a few of your recipes and their awesome, We appreciate having your videos during these times, I can't wait to say I tried all your recipes, my girlfriend is a real lover of chinese food as well as I am, but there is one recipe I would love to see and that is Moo Goo Guy Pan I'd really love to see that video, as for now keep up the good work, your making a lot of us happy! BTW your egg rolls are the bomb, everyone that tried mine said they wanted the recipe and I told them check out Chop Chop videos on you tube Chef Petey"s the best!!
Thanks for chiming in Terry. Everyone makes moo goo guy pan different. My has bok choy, pea pods, fresh mushrooms, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots and sliced chicken breast. So not sure if you have that in mind.
Thanks for watching as well. I appreciate the support 😃
@@jagabaya123 All the ingredients you mentioned in your recipe I would use them all because i am a big fan of vegetables any vegetables and thank you very much for replying to to my message, I thought that was so awesome! A famous celebrity actually messaged me back, keep up the great work Mr. Petey :)
Thank you for your help I like to make egg rolls and wanton but one thing I do is I like to use my air fryer and have found that it works just as well as if I was to deep fry them only thing is I would like to learn how to make the raps.
Making egg roll skin is something I have never done. Without a machine it is literally impossible to get the thickness just right. Way too labor intensive.
Today im making my egg rolls
Hope it turns out great!!!
Love this...what kind of egg roll paper is used for those smaller thin crispy spring rolls?
I think you are referring to rice paper wrapper used for Chinese spring rolls. It’s made from rice flour and is translucent unlike the flour one used in this video. Hope that helps.
I find it is easier to micro-wave the cabbage mix. It still needs draining but much less so than the boiling mixture does. This, of course, is for a family sized recipe and not the huge restaurant batch.
Thanks for chiming in Sharon. Great suggestion on the microwave.
Pete where do you buy white pepper powder , looked everywhere? Yummy !
Amazon for sure.
