  • Happy Wednesday Everyone!
    Hope you all are doing well. This video is probably the most requested video I've made thus far. My husband and I were speaking prior to filming about how much and or little we wanted to film our house. Having three kids we wanted to create a safe space for them so we decided to limit the tour to the common areas. Thankfully, that was probably a better idea or else this video would probably be an hour long!
    In this video, you'll see that my house is not a traditional Portuguese style home, but rather a more modern/contemporary feel to it. This house was built in 2015 by a family who also has 3 kids (how convienient). The family room and dining room offers a large open living concept similar to what we had back in the States. The house is filled with natural light and amazing views. The neighborhood is a mixture of local Portuguese and other foreign families which is perfect for us 😊.
    Although we closed on the house in late November, we actually didn't move until the beginning of March. That was mainly due to us renovating the kitchen and waiting for the furniture to be completed and installed. The company that we used for our interior decorating and kitchen installation is ⭐️ My Way Design ⭐️ which is located in Porto. It's a small family owned company which travels all around Portugal. Their designs are amazing and customizable. They are quick to respond and very reasonably priced.
    I hope you guys enjoy the video ❤️
    🙋‍♀️ Question for you all! Would you like more vlog style videos to show you my daily life in Portugal or do you enjoy the sit down chats with me? 🙋‍♀️

    I grew tomatillos in France because you really couldn't get them there and will have them in my garden here in Portugal...When we move in soon!! I make salsa verde and slather it on everything...So good!

    We are also looking in the Caldas area and interested in the private school. We are trying to figure out what communities to look in that are close to the school.
    Your house is inspiring, love the magical looking backyard too. You have great taste and your decorating is spot on.

      It really depends on how much commuting time you are willing to do. Most parents choose anywhere from 5-15 minutes (one way). If you’re ok with a 15 minute commute, then that will give you the best options. Also, take into account if you want your children in any extracurricular activities because that will also mean more time in the car :)

    Congratulations on your new home! I love the layout, the kitchen is well designed, not too big for you to keep clean.
    The green space in the distance is just perfect for the eyes. You did well!

    Congrats, Josie for the house - beautiful. We also love the open concept and the big fridge - being in the States. Can you share the $ price so we can get an idea of what we can get for the $ there. Crazy how the prices went up so much the last couple of years in Portugal but in the silver coast I still consider one of the best values compared to Lisbon , Porto, Algarve and Cascais. We are moving there next year and uncertain whether we should take some furniture, rugs, etc. I think we may. Good quality Outdoor furniture seems to be difficult to find on Portugal from the research I have done… any stores you would recommend for furniture especially outdoor furniture - thank you. Stay well.

      I will be reviewing our monthly cost (including our mortgage) in the next video :)
      Regarding furniture, you may want to measure your furniture before making that decision. Most homes here can be quite tight and based on the size of your current furniture, its possible that it won't fit. I have found prices here to be quite comparable to the prices in the states.

    The fridges are small in Europe because people don’t eat as much frozen food as Americans… also people usually don’t buy in bulk so really no need of a bigger fridge even for bigger families.

    • @josieinportugal6454
      @josieinportugal6454  Před 2 lety

      I think it depends on the family. The previous owner (who is Portuguese) owned 2 fridges. A few other Portuguese people that I know own deep freezers. I think it just depends on the family.

    I have a quick question about the Silver Coast. We're not exactly beach people, but we like warm weather (especially for the winter months), lush greenery, not too touristy, but not rundown or really small either. Are there any towns/cities in the Silver Coast like that? Thanks!

    Hello from Brazil, we’re considering to go live in Caldas next year. A question: your house appears to be located around Nadadouro. So, is It easy to take kids to school in Caldas downtown every day? If i’m wrong, can u tell me about the distante from ur home to school?
    We went to Caldas on vacation last month, and we liked so much, we’re planning to go again in october to visit some schools. Tu very much! Nice house u have!

    Curiosity how costly was the kitchen renovation? Was it difficult finding a good contractor?

    good family home, but too rural. And Caldas is already too small, I hear.

    • @josieinportugal6454
      @josieinportugal6454  Před 2 lety +2

      It depends on the person and their definition of small. I, personally, don’t think Caldas is rural and small. Maybe the city center of Caldas can be small compared to bigger cities, but if you include the neighboring towns which are 5-10 minutes away, it’s the perfect size area for us :).
      However, if you enjoy bigger cities like Lisbon and Porto, then yes it may be too small of a city for you.
