It’s a nice rig but I think they should’ve made it a lcheaper then the trd off-road ones.
The bronze accents make this my preferred trim out of all of them just because of the bronze Toyota heritage grille, the Toyota bronze wheels which are the same exact wheels as the trd pro but just in bronze. Really makes the truck stand out. My number one choice would be a black tacoma in the trail edition with the bronze accents. Tried to special order it but dealer said toyota isn’t taking any special orders right now because of the shortage and dealers basically get whatever Toyota decides to build and randomly pick what options come with it based on what they think customers would want but haven’t seen a black trail edition yet and it’s crazy that even now in 2023 when the new designed 4th gen is right around the corner and the 3rd gen being the oldest midsize truck on the market now that the frontier has been redesigned…it’s crazy how fast these most sought after higher trim off road models like the trd pro and the trail edition are getting reserved as soon as they hit the inventory online when they haven’t even been finished building yet. There is still a huge demand on both tacoma trd pro and trail edition and also 4Runner trd pros. They are both insanely hard to get and if you find one that hasn’t been reserved with a deposit and you’re looking to buy a new tacoma, you better hop on that deposit immediately or it will be gone in the blink of an eye. I will say tho that the crawl control and MTS are not just marketing features. Although experienced off roaders don’t really use it, some actually do. The Expedition Overland guys always use it although they are sponsored by Toyota so I’m sure they get whispered to show off certain things and promote/market certain things but it really does work as long as your tires are up to the task but even then it can make bad tame tires look better than they are at times like the stock tires tacomas have traditionally come with. These tires are little better but still an AT and not near the best of the AT’s like the Falken wildpeaks or KO2’s or ridge grapplers or open country AT toyos but better than the all season that used to come on the trd pros. I’ve seen crawl control work wonders for people in tacomas and 4Runners.
You made a good argument about crawl control. The lift and tires on this truck is worth it alone in my opinion. Looks great!
I just bought a brand new 2023 Trail Edition in magnetic grey. I went to the dealer to get my FJ worked on. It needed so much work I asked what they had on the lot. As soon as I went out there I saw this Trail Edition and just loved they way it looked with the bronze wheels and heritage grill. When I saw the all black cloth seats and that it had a rear locking differential I was sold. 1 month later I have no regrets. I wish they had sunroof option but thats about it. And yes crawl mode is basically useless. If you need to use crawl mode, than you shouldnt be off roading.
thanks for the video, not many owners reviews of 2022, 2023 trail edition.
I put down a deposit for one in Canada two months ago.
Features are a bit different here. No cooler storage boxes or technology package like power rear window and blind spot monitoring, but does come with heated seats, safety sense, Lift, predator step bars and roof rack as standard. I don't know what color I'll end up with. Either lunar rock or magnetic grey metallic.
Did you get it - and how is it !?
I’m considering one of these for my next truck, and coming from a ‘12 Raptor with 37s that gets around 10.5 MPG…..17-18 MPG is great!
I bought a trail edition a few months ago and I have zero regrets as well. Love this truck and don’t care about the haters either lol.
I totally agree with your review, I love mine and I don’t care about MPG’s , I saw my truck as I was passing by Toyota dealership, I saw it and fell in love with the truck, I’ll be upgrading rear taillights, and fog led’s, tinting my windows and adding a subwoofer with amp…. That’s it. Thanks.
Just curious what you mean by upgrading LED? Do you just mean with fog lenses? I put a deposit down on black Trail, and my plan is to just get fog lenses, it does come with the LED lights right?
@@1Craftyone there aren’t fog lights at all lol
I have a Trail. I love it.
I have never owed a Toyota however I will buy the model when I decide to buy a truck! I think it’s priced well for what it offers!
Can you check your camber on the front wheels? I noticed on mine and another the wheels are cambered in? Wonder if the factory lift can't be handled by the stock shocks
Love my Trail Edition
I had a TRD Pro and liked the truck except for the junk transmission in them. Always a problem with shifting and gears bouncing around. Toyota needs to update engine and transmission with more gears and better tuning
Get the overland torque tune.
I pick mine up next week. Magnetic Grey Metallic. I don’t think it’s as cool a color as the Lunar Rock but finding one with that color proved too difficult.
I'm after magnetic grey myself, lunar rock seems to be more commonly offered in western Canada. Both are nice though.
My tool box and cooler are locked up in storage. I love my 23 Trail Edition
And this is why I still have my 2012 Tacoma. It has limited slip…4x4..heavy duty radiator and runs perfect. Don’t know that I’ll ever sell it unless they do something really drastic in styling. Don’t need carplay it has Bluetooth to run my apps. And mines been payed off for sometime.
Same boat
Hey just curious if you ever installed fog lights? I have a 23 Trail and I love it. Just been thinking about installing fog lights if its possible.
I have a 23 trail edition and I’ve done some work to it. Fog lights are probably next for me. Rough country makes a set for about $150 that are easy to install. If you’re looking around make sure the website states “fits on models without factory fog lights” because it seems a lot of companies only make them for Tacoma’s that already have factory fog lights.
What is the recommended psi for those tires
Hey folks, another proud Trail Edition owner. Purchased mine used with 12000 miles on it. Former owner only had it for 10 months. It came without the storage and cooler boxes and a owners manual. it's okay though I now have both boxes in the garage brand new from Toyota. Will install them this spring. Owners manual is coming in the mail brand new still in it's plastic wrapper. should get it by Friday. This is my third Toyota truck and my new Daily Driver. Truck # 2 is still in the driveway taking a much needed rest after 20 years of hard driving.
Hi how much did you spend? ( if you don’t mind me asking) local dealer is asking for 39k with 24k miles on it
@@user-sw9rn6iz6b They were asking for 42k it is a 2023 trail edition. after all the taxes and the purchase of an extra warranty I ended up spending 48k. Hope this helps you out.
Is it possible to remove the added storage in the back or no?
Yeah you can remove em!
do you know if those lockers in the bed can be removed ? thanks
Yes they can! A lot of people do it I think
Whats the larger wheel and tire package? Isnt it just a 17 inch wheel and standard tire?
Wheels are 16x7 +4(much more aggressive offset compared to off-road). Tires are 265/70/16r (same as off road and TRD Pro) compared to SR5 245/75/16r. Not the biggest, but meaty enough for being stock 👌
@@AUTOBIBLE I thought they were same tires as off road. I didnt know wheels had an offset. Thanks.
You are totally wrong. The Trail Edition is not meant to look like a Pro nor does it look like a Pro. It is a special edition SR5 that comes with some extra offroading goodies for offroading and hitting the trails. And it has a heritage grill and wheels in bronze which looks amazing and seperates it from other models.
NOT meant to look like a Pro.
DOES NOT look like a Pro.
How do you like the front locker? How about the rear locker that can be locked in 2HI and 4HI?
Doesn’t come with a front locker! Just the rear which I haven’t had an opportunity to use yet. Will make a video about that later on!
@@AUTOBIBLE I know, I was kidding about the front locker. Too bad the rear locker is useless, i.e. it only works in 4LO and has a speed limit at which it unlocks.
@@scotw67 you jokin again my brother?
@@AUTOBIBLE yeah, just throwing a little shade at the Tacoma. 😉
@@scotw67 why would you want to use a rear locker in high speeds in rear wheel drive though lol
Do you know how many will be produced? Thx
It’s not limited, so I think there are quite a few that have been produced. The model ends with the 2023 year though so if you want one new, you’ll have to get one soon!
What is the tow capacity?
Around 6400 lbs, I believe
Did you install fog lights yet ?
Nope I did not.. Which would you put in?
@@AUTOBIBLE I like the Baja design . My brother just got this truck and it looks like they’re already wired . You just have to buy the hardness for them that plugs in . And then you have to switch the turn signal knob .
I have a 23' lunar rock trail. Bought fog lights off of Amazon ($40.00) and wired them directly to headlight wiring. I did go ahead and replace headlight bulbs with LEDs as well as the fog light bulbs (another $40.00). Headlights come on, fog lights come on. Very easy to do.
It’s a great truck and best looking wheels and grille with the bronze but way overpriced for cloth seats, a basic block lift on regular sr5 suspension and those absolutely horrendous embarassing halogen lights with no fog lights at all. At least give us damn leds like every other vehicle. Over 40 thousand and depending on the options it can be mid to high 40s almost reaching 50 thousand. That’s basically same price as a trd off road and close to trd pro price territory. Imo they should’ve made it more of a bargain and not as closely priced to the trd off road. It might look better stock but wasting money in the end for what you get or what you don’t get. They trick your eye with the exterior unique bronze styling but the grill and wheels aren’t worth that much more compared to buying another trim and swapping out wheels for much cheaper and an aftermarket pro grill in bronze for like 60 bucks. It is cool that Toyota added the locker to it but everything else isn’t worth the price they are asking. Just level up to a trd off road or pro or get the sr5 and add front and rearlockers wheels grille led headlights fog lights and still have money left over for actual useful mods that make your truck more capable like an actual upgraded off road suspension. They try to charge you a lot more for a basic block lift while still using basic sr5 suspension. It looks good for on road but will ride horinly rough off road and so t soak up anything your head and body wil get tossed around like crazy. Sad to say but the trail edition is just an appearance package to look like an off road beast with built up off road mods that make the tacoma more capable but it’s just an appearance package adding a unique off road popular color like bronze and upcharging people who don’t really know any better or know anything about off roading and modding off road parts but want to make it look like they are an off roader. They don’t know any better that it’s sr5 suspension and a lift that makes the ride worse on and off road just adding a block in that basic suspension, same crap headlights, same little skid plate, and everything is the same. Besides the locker, the only other changes are for looks like the bronze wheels and the bronze pro grille and the weak lift. With leftover money from a normal sr5, you could get morimoto led headlights fogs taillights and insane upgraded suspension like fox or kings and get full armour all around or get most of those things.
You the same person who just left a comment saying how the trail edition is your favorite trim?
Buy a sr5 and add a rear locker. Save thousands.
And lift it, add bigger wheels/tires, swap the grill, get black fender trim.. Wonder how much it would cost to do it all yourself (parts+labor)
@@AUTOBIBLE 2in ome suspension lift $1580. Fender flares 800. Tires 800. Rear locker 1300. Still cheaper than the 48k tag they want for a trail edition here lol
@@michaelprince77ABDA at best lol. The trail edition is just a joke.
@@michaelprince77 The trail edition package costs $3,765. The cost of the parts you mentioned with installation far exceeds this. There are many dealers offering trail editions for MSRP where I live brotha ($40K flat). Dealerships can ask whatever they want all day, but only bozos will pay that shizz
@@HOOMNOKU what is an abda hoomnoku?
Should've just bought a TRD OR. Smh
Doesn’t come lifted from the factory!
@@AUTOBIBLE one inch lift isnt really a lift.
