Do you think Black Mirror Season 6 felt different to the previous seasons of the show? Comment your thoughts below!
Loch Henry had that open-jaw moment for me. The rest didn't, although Joan is Awful had a nice twist.
Unpopular opinion: Beyond the Sea was pretty good until the end. I wasn't convinced that David would do what he did just to make a point. The actions by both characters in the last few minutes lacked verisimilitude.
Mazie Day. More like lazy writing... day...
Demon 79 was entertaining, but not jaw-dropping.
Yep, I think the 3 worst ever episodes were all in season 6: Joan is Awful, Mazey Day and the One with the demon. All were a bit silly and just didn't really feel like episodes of BM
This season wasn't bad but it wasn't over the top fantastic either. My top ones were: Joan is Awful, Loch Henry, & Demon '79.
Yes it was more focused on wokism then the episodes
It's interesting, I compared Season 6 was similar to the Twight Zone.
I think Loch Henry focused on solving the wrong mystery. With the bigger, more important one being, what happened to that girl's eyebrows.
They should've focused on the "rare egg guy"
Even on a serious note Loch Henry's focus was awful. It kept hinting at this off relation between the main guy and his mother, as well as whatever went on with the old barkeeper. But the big "reveal" happened so suddenly and explained nothing in terms of the actual mysterious aspects. The main guy also gave us nothing in terms of a reaction to the reveal whatsoever, except a few blank stared
Dam took the words out of my mouth
snatched
YES 😶
I like three of the episodes very much. But I don't get this great sense to re-watch them like I did with the early-seasons
Exactly my issue
I like that they focused more on the past this season, and less on the future, which is an interesting slant.
Yeah that's a fair point, I feel it goes against the shows identity and what we've come to associate with it though, which is a shame!
So it totally left its roots and became a different show. Got it.
Me, too. I was tired of the tech "cookies" they used a lot in the previous seasons. This was a good break. If all the seasons are the same we are going to get tired of them. These episodes were good in their own way. I like how they reimagined the technological advancements in Beyond the Sea without making the tech the villain. In the end, it's people who are good or evil.
@@zyzzyz7035the first episode was about the prime minister f*cking a pig, get over yourself
@@Jsuarez6 they could have took what made beyond the see good and made it the theme of the season but nope this season has no identity and was trying to many things and we got werewolves and demons instead of tech
also what do you mean "tired of the tech cookies" ? the show is called black mirror which means when you turn off your phone or laptop ect you get a black mirror it's the dark reflection on society and what ppl can do with tech the more it get more advanced
you will not get tired of something unless the writing is bad good writing and concepts do not run out of ideas and when it comes to tech that is an ocean of ideas
The first three gave a very strong start to the season and then - unfortunately - it took a supernatural turn which just felt a bit confusing as a viewer. I think you have to take into account that this series comes in a post pandemic world where life has felt very 'black mirror' in recent years. I think the writers were really conscious of this and it's a big reason why they focused more on the present and past this season.
Also, I really liked how Joan is Awful and Loch Henry both critiqued Netflix - one with a focus on AI and the other on the true crime obsession we have these days. As a viewer, I definitely felt a jolt of shock that they were allowed to explore these. Really felt like they left me thinking in true Black Mirror fashion.
people say supernatural like everything else from other season could happen in real life.
The supernatural episode is the second best episode after the spaceship one.
At least for me, the Netflix criticism would be a lot more impactful if this wasn't a Netflix show 🥲 like its sanitized bc they're not going to genuinely criticize their own platform at least in any meaningful way
@@mlemaire109tbf i think it’s more a critique of modern content & love that they used a clear netflix parody to blame
loch henry and beyond the sea hit the spot for me
Popular opinion would seem to suggest that this season is disjointed, yet my takeaway from it was that the overarching theme was Streamberry. If you warch the episodes in reverse order, the first three are all fantasies set in the relatively recent past, with two of them set in alternate realities. Loch Henry is the only episode set in reality and Joan is Awful is set inside the Quomputer. I think Demon 79, Mazey Day and Beyond the Sea are all fantasy Streamberry shows created by the Quomputer, then Loch Henry ends up being a Streamberry true crime documentary, then Joan is Awful is Streamberry's attempt at combining the genres of computer-generated fantasy and reality TV shows, an attempt which is thwarted by Joan when she destroys the Quomputer and obliterates the artificially-created realities inside it; not just the different levels of Joan is Awful but also the Quomputer-generated realities within which Beyond the Sea, Mazey Day and Demon 79 take place.
I think the line in Joan is Awful about how no-one knowing how the Quomputer works (basically magic) is significant in this respect.
Also, Joan is seen wearing a Boney M t-shirt in one scene. Maybe she's just a fan. Or, maybe it's Streamberry referencing its fantasy show Demon 79 in the level one reality, a bit of subliminal promotion. The destruction at the end of Demon 79 could also be symbolic of Joan destroying that reality when she puts an end to the Quomputer.
Just my take on it. I rambled on for longer than I planned to, so apologies for that.
Good theory!
Makes a lot of sense 🤔 I guess that's why the "demon" kept saying if she didn't make sacrifices he'll be kicked out and thrown into the "abyss" which is what happened anyway to all of the realities. I don't understand the sacrifices though because it ended up not amounting to anything.
@@danake6 Been thinking about your point and I think it may be similar to the situation in Cabin In The Woods, where the sacrifices are engineered to entertain the old Gods to stop them rising and destroying the world. If Demon 79 is a show created by the computer's AI, maybe the sacrifices are the hook the show needs to delay its destruction, or to put it another way, cancellation. The audience tune in for the murders, the murders stop, viewing figures drop, Streamberry cancels the show. Similar to streaming platforms in reality.
Regardless of whether it was good or bad, i genuinely was entertained by every episode (yes including mazey day)
me too
Mazey Day was actually my favorite episode of the new season. I thought every episode was fantastic. It reminds me of a modern day "Twilight Zone". I really don't understand the grief.
I enjoyed them all but my favorite is the spaceship VR followed by the werewolf one. Don't remember what Mazey Day is so it must be the worst. LoL.
@@jonfreeman9682The werewolf episode is titled Mazey Day.
@@jonfreeman9682 Mazey Day is the werewolf one.
the episodes itself were't bad, but episodes like Mazey Day felt like it was lacking some blackmirror technology. Maybe they just didnt know where else to put a concept like this and stuffed it into black mirror
That episode felt so random. I feel like there was a way it could’ve worked, but what we got was the worst execution.
mazey day was the worst episode idc
The 'technology' in that episode was the camera. Not every episode has to be about a phone or some eye device/headset.
@@kekoo20 oh i see, i guess i was just expecting something more 'creative'. The plot was a kinda random nonetheless
The technology was the camera and its use by the papparazzi, leading to the main characters downfall representing society at large, or, well, it would've, if they didn't say fuck it let's add a random ass werewolf to punish the papparazzi instead of having a genuine conversational narrative or consistent theme.
Mazey Day felt like a Twilight Zone or Tales From The Crypt episode, it wasn't bad, just not "Black Mirror" type
Or straight up Twilight the vampire show. I find it so funny they used Super Massive Black Hole, the song itself was a major spoiler.
Yeah I totally get that
I agree 👍🏾
I think it might be because the last 2 episodes weren't that strong, and that's how the season ended. Whereas other seasons had great episodes at the end.
Episode 5 was decent, but I personally enjoyed the last episode a lot. The main character played her role really well and it gave good insight into what a schizophrenic person battles
Demon 79 was so superior
I thought Demon 79 was actually really fun. But yes Mazey Day was awful.
maybe, but men against fire wasnt that great either. it was good but def not as good as the rest in s4. ofc this is comin from someone who personally enjoyed mazey day lol
I loved demon 79 as a trip down the rabbit hole into mental illness BUT it just didn’t feel like black mirror. Still a great episode though
Yeah I know what you mean!
I groaned when i learned about the Red Mirror concept being wedged in this season. Something felt so off i couldnt place it but when I found that out it all made sense. They should just make Red Mirror its own show and keep the supernatural stuff there, because this season barely felt like watching the same show
I actually really liked it, but yeah, it felt, different, idk how
@@neromauritzen6170 honestly the red mirror episodes added in made that exact situation for me. It lost the black mirror touch and it didn't even feel like the same show
@@neromauritzen6170 to me it felt more like going to a James Bond movie and the movie theater plays the minion movie instead 💀 glad other people enjoyed it tho
The second last episode of the season I feel is some random experiment. The first three of this season was amazing. Demon 79 I felt was fun but that too was experimental.
I didn't mind that episode and didn't even mind the twist, but it just didn't come across as being a black mirror episode- a criticism I'd have of two or three episodes of season 6. Under the sea was the most traditional style episode and was by far the best in this series.
It makes more sense if you think she's actually gone crazy and the demon isn't real. Even at the end she could just be alone in the interview room continuing to imagine it all.
There are some rumors that Charlie Brooker is planning a spin off called Red Mirror more focused in the supernatural and that Mazey Day and Demon 79 might be a test to see how well goes but in intervies he said that he put Red Mirror to add something different to the show and not something tecnological as always
That would be interesting!
I actually enjoyed this season, mazey day wasn’t my favorite but i liked demon 79. The red mirror concepts are cool.
You're only saying that because you don't know what the previous episodes are like , season 6 below par compared to season 1-4
@@ahmedyusuf3573 i do, ive seen the previous ones
I watched Mazey Day with my brother and had to get the food delivery right before the scene with the hit-and-run came up. It's safe to say I had even less of a clue what was going on in the episode, having missed the only scene with a clue towards the 'plot twist'.
I'm usually pretty critical of everything but genuinely found joy in watching the latest season. It stayed pretty steady through the first few eps and dipped a bit for the last two but overall the season was a nice change up from the "AI is gonna destroy us all" trope that every single Sci fi writer works into their stories.
The look into the past was different and not used to this kind of thing told in BM. However I welcome the addition of these stories and hope they mix them in to link up to eachother some way.
Couldn't agree more. Enjoyable season but only had 2 Black Mirror episodes (Joan and Beyond The Sea) with the other 3 feeling just like regular horror stories ala Cabinet Of Curiosities.
Yeah I get that feeling!
You hit the nail on the head !!! 100%
It didn’t feel like Black Mirror. If it was marketed differently then I would have enjoyed it a lot more.
It wasn’t fresh. A lot of the concepts like remotely controlling a body and the takeover of AI have already been explored by other shows and movies.
I liked Joan is Awful a lot but the ending was so predictable.
Demon 79 was soooo much fun. My favorite episode of the season by far, ironically it never felt like "Black Mirror"
That’s fair enough! It was an interesting episode for sure
That’s crazy this season got mad 7s. If it was up to me, it would’ve been straight 4s or 5s across the board. Except the mazey ep. That would’ve gotten a 1.2… 2 at most lol
Beyond the sea was probably one of my favourite black mirror episodes ever, how are you giving that a 4/5?
@@harrybolland8578 cause it was so predictable I could’ve wrote it!
Nothing went wrong.....a little unusual but still great.
I thought with the first two episodes that Streamberry would the connecting theme in this season but I was a tad disappointed when they got rid of that concept.
I feel like the one with the werewolf should've been saved for American Horror Stories.
Mazey Day could have been good, but the werewolf part threw me off... Beyond the Sea I think is my all time favourite tho
It didn’t happen in her head. Rewatch the episode. The demon, apocalypse and all that happened. They literally spell it out for you. The guy who got killed with the brick, his daughter is the key that explains what is happening is reality.
My thoughts in video form! Thank u 🙏🏾 lol
Haha, that's good!
In Loch Henry we did see an impact on society, the way ppl consume true crime
I think the show is great as I skipped all previous seasons and watch this right away, give me a vibe of what humanity can actually become.
Season 4 was my favorite
Season 4 is a good one. I think Season 3 is the most well rounded!
@@BrainPilot Same.
the space ep was the only one that felt like BM to me,i quite like demon 79 though, id really like to see red mirror
That's fair!
Better than the previous season. That’s all I can ask for
That's fair! It was better than S5 that's for sure
I just realized "Men Against Fire" had the same plot as the video game Haze
I didn't mind it at all... I liked it for the most part. Nothing wrong with trying something different.
True, but also - if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
same dude, its a great season
i'm tired to see brainless people calling the season "woke" or "pro-leftist" for having woman or minorities on the cast lmao, some great episodes on season 6
the problem is that people don't realise that we are already on black mirror, no need to remain on the future when we are living a lot of the episodes itselves
I thought it wasn't as close to plots with future technology, but the stories were still as compelling. Its a great anthology series with its own tone. Better than any other science fiction anthology series today.
Every season of Black Mirror is extremely well done! A superior series all around……6 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Yeah this season didn't wow me like the others and I felt pretty unsatisfied after watching it
I think they're running out of ideas if they can't center the show around technology. They tried so hard to shake the anti technology label. But that's what the made the show catchy. There's enough irony in the world to get some inspiration
Most definitely! I hope the next season goes a bit more back to its roots!
I loved it, it’s hard to meet expectations of early Black Mirror but it’s far superior then some of the ones put out in recent years
Totally fair - yeah it was definitely better in quality thatn S5, but from a tonal perspective it just didn't feel like it was there
As much as I like mazey day and demon 79 it really felt like a fantasy show.
Couldn't even sit through Demon 79. It was total rubbish.
The main difference was that they explored more. Drifiting completely away from advancements in technology. I didnt mind it but it felt completely different
Aaron Paul a Space Odyssey really let me down, thought it would be more 60s sci-fi inspired, like 2001 and space:1999
San Junipero was beautiful
Such a solid episode
Every season up until now has mainly been "Humanity vs Technology" themed, basically the tech version of The Twilight Zone. However, even the Twilight Zone subverted expectations every once in a while which is what happened here with Season 6.
“Subverted expectations” is jargon for “Jumped the Shark.”
@@Y2Kr4SHM4N Or to piss off the masses, i.e. The Last Jedi.
I loved it people are just so picky
Brooker is trying to evolve the show to keep it fresh…is this season a growing pain?
Charlie said “let me make a bad Friday the 13th season”.
People complaining about this season seem to forget about the prime minister episode in season 1. Tech is not the main point of BM, it never has been, and quite honestly, this season was pretty decent.
But I’d also say that the societal impact was huge in that one. Something that makes up a massive part of the identity and was lacking slightly from this season
1:39 isn't the stress on the second syllable - con'tribute ?
I liked episode 3 and 5 the best from season 6
Yeah they were the better ones!
Some of these episodes this season weren’t even science fiction. Totally disappointed with season 6
I did not feel it wrong but just differently. It was not flowing well with the other stories and a totally differnt thing instead. Sort of like how live action is different ...some better than others , but never flowing well with anything else.
It felt different because this series was not about dystopian future technology which is the core element to black mirror. The only good episode was Beyond the Sea and it was the only one that felt like a Black Mirror Episode. Black mirror needs to stay to its roots of technology gone too far.
I liked the season... didn't care for the werewolf... but otherwise, all solid... and I'm happy with it.
That’s fair enough!
Last season I only liked Smithereens. This season I only liked Loch Henry and Beyond the Sea.
I just feel like it got a bigger budget and became ‘more American’ and lost a lot of what made it so good.
The last two episodes were a big let-down because there was nothing really Black Mirror about it - no tech, future, etc. If they want to do this 'Red Mirror' then they should have a spin-off rather than use the existing series to experiment. Stick to what works.
Some of the episodes were decent. However, why they deviated from the 'dangers of technology' trope that defined the series seems an odd choice. What's most disappointing to me is that the writers clearly don't understand what a 'demon' is and the nature of such a creature.
That episode was horrendous, it was so ridiculous I didn't even watch the rest of the series.
I enjoyed season 6 for the most part. Beyond The Sea was interesting but felt too long and is depressing af. Loch Henry and Mazey Day were creepy af and intense. Demon 79 was great but felt more like Red Mirror which I wouldn't mind seeing more of. I Joan Is Awful was twisted comedy with Netflix making fun of themselves.
Mazey Day had all this good set up about the paparazzi and its effect on the people who use it and then they just said fuck it, werewolves, and completely abandoned the theme
Yeah it just took me out of the world that it created when it did that
I think if this season was only the 3 first episodes it would've been Precieved better
Yeah i'd agree with that!
I agree, the endings didn't give me that depressing sense of doom, mind twisting feeling. It's not the lack of tech that makes it feel different. I don't care about that. The last two seasons just have a different feel to me. I will say this season was better than the last season.. 1-4 by farrrrr the best.
They we're trialling Red Mirror type episodes, which explains a lot. Probably seeing how people would react, bad idea imo. Black Mirror should stay with tech instead. Though Joan is Awful was ok. Letdown by this series.
It was decent. Better than the last few
advancement in AI may become increasingly indistinguishable from reality making it difficult to posses an identity. especially in the metaverse and future verses
Just go back to setting the episodes in the UK, those episodes were much grittier and the ‘morals’ of the stories were way more subtle. Feel like the series has become a bit too preachy.
Wasn’t worth the wait , definitely not as exciting or mind blowing like previous seasons , Joan was an interesting concept , but not strange or mysterious enough to be blown away , hopefully season 7 will be more exciting about futuristic life , time travel, nde , or strange parallel lives , something that will twist your mind upside down
Wow, are you serious? You broadbrush the whole season as though it is a composite. Its an anthology. The episodes are separate stories and their themes are only thinly connected by the feeling that we are in the future, but we also could be watching an alternate world (see San Junipero). I thought it was a decent season and (on my own scale of 1-10) I didn't rate the episodes independent of each other. Beyond the Sea was my favorite. It isn't in my top six of all time but I thought it was interesting. I am curious, do you compare early seasons of Twilight Zone to later seasons? I like the short story format and the subject matter and technology is the fruit of the writer's mind and we get to taste it. If you want to talk about different tell me why anyone thought that "Bandersnatch" was a good idea.
This last season wasn't bad but you're right it wasn't great either.
Definitely - I'd say season 5 was worse that season 6, but it was more like Black Mirror
You cant just switch a series theme. It's nothing like that cna be a reality in future and more of a fantasy or that we do not have a proof . Joan is awful, beyond the sea only satifies the show's theme.
This season knocked blackmirror off the number #1 in anthologies spot for me ike the video said left out the impact each episode had on the rest of the world. Love Death & Robots and Oats Studios just moved on up+
Love Death & Robots is such a good anthology!
@@BrainPilotseason 2 of LDR is just like season 6 of Black Mirror
Good season in my book and better then the last for sure in my opinion…
That's totally fair!
I'm going to give this season another chance after getting bored but I think all these kind of stories should be tighter with like a 45 minute run-time at the most.
That’s totally fair!
where was the technology?!
Season 6 was soo boring. Made me sad. Litterally reactivated netflix for Black mirror and i was disappointed
I liked it. 🤷🏾♂️
Season 6 is SO MUCH BETTER than season 5.
Definitely stronger, but I’d say felt less like Black Mirror
Joan is Awful was enjoyable but I don't watch Black Mirror to have a happy ending. Loch Henry was...Just meh. Mazey Day was terrible. Under the Sea was ok but the ending was very predictable. I did enjoy Demon 79, it was just plain fun. This season was pretty disappointing though.
It felt very American😂
I miss technology. It has todays promlems but I want more of future problems.
No more werewolves.
Yeah it definitely feels different. It's nothing like Black Mirror, just some "horror stories" of some sort. They're not bad, but nowhere near as good as the originals.
This season didn't make you think or feel like the prior seasons. The allure of the shows like the Twilight Zone are that you feel as if you are in the shoes of the main character. This season tried to force you to feel the characters.
Can't agree more.
Black mirror is about technology..you can't change it now lol
Was fine ..just different.
It suck when a good show turns horrible. i.e. American Horror Story
I LOVE the Miley Cyrus one. Y’all trippin
Good review, but Season 6 is not only not up to standard, it's nowhere near it. Mazey Day was a complete failure and didn't deserve a 5. Zero story
I like only the astronaut episode, everything else is so boring. Has no meaning behind those episode unlike previous seasons.
Mazey Day was really bad but I did enjoy watching the others so it was a fairly successful season for me at least.
That's fair enough!
Demon 79 was miles better than the other episodes in the season
I didn't like season 5 at all, but really enjoyed season 6.
That's totally fair!
What went wrong 😅 hell looking at the thumbnail her hair is what's wrong why they got her looking like that 🤣🤣🤣
I didn't think Mazey Day was all that bad. It's better than Joan is awful, which I recently attempted to re-watch. I ended up turning it off halfway through, as I couldn't stand watching the gooey and tacky second half again.
Beyond the Sea and Mazey day were by far the worst.
I hate how beyond the sea is getting so much praise but literally anyone with a brain could’ve figured out that twist. Once you knew that David was going to start using the replica, it became so predictable. You knew he was going to go after the wife sexually and attempt to “take” over his life at first.
Cliff made it very clear that it was a two man job to pilot the ship. So if David left him outside to die, then he would’ve essentially committed suicide at that point. The episode had a good build-up but it was WAY too long.
Mazey Day’s twist is shallow. It reminded me of Creepshow, but a little worse. The beginning was great but the run time made me skeptical, being the shortest this season. Once it’s revealed that Mazey is a werewolf, that’s pretty much it.
A predictable twist doesn't necessarily make a bad episode. The twist in under the sea worked, because although the (the space guy!) committing murder wasn't unexpected, killing the whole family certainly was.
I agree that Mazey Day is awful but Beyond the Sea is worth the praise.
@@bichen-up-ur I disagree but to each their own. It has the black mirror feeling, but didn’t really feel that surprising.
Almost all episodes were predictable . In that case even if it's laughable none saw that werewolf coming in Mazey Day. I think her being a werewolf is allegorical. For me the worst one was Loch Henry. It was too slow , heavily predictable & the twist felt like a worn out horror trend, still the acting was great in it.
Omg yes, thank you. Beyond the Sea was boring af.
Wrong? What went wrong? So, I have a feeling this is a click bait title. Because all I see is you mentioning “different” and different isn’t “wrong.” But hey, gotta get those clicks.
NOTHING stays the same forever. Evolve pal. it was a great season regardless still miles ahead of anything else on tv.
Yeah there were some good episodes in it, I just feel as though it didn't have the same tone as usual!
Most of episodes were not really “Black Mirror”. This season was a disappointment
Definitely!
Comparing the last 2 eps to Cabinets of Curiosities is just not it. Cabinets is very well done horror, nothing like the predictable uninspired mess that was BM last 2 episodes.
