Early days of LeMans races - Porsche engineers realized, when placing the ignition on the left side, the driver can press the clutch (leg), start the car (left hand) and engage the gear (right hand) at the same time. This saved a small amount of time and gave an advantage to the Porsche driver at that time.

I love it how car manufacturers insist on controlling everything through a touch-screen but use CPU's from the 90's so that the animations on screen go at 5 frames per second even in the most basic of of tasks like changing the orientation of the vents .

Mr.Plow what im saying is that for example when a new video game or operating system comes out. Its often buggy and unreliable, so installing an older more proven system on a car is a good idea. Since it handles important functions in a car and might be difficult to update, it might be why they decided to go with slightly older technology on this car. But idk, maybe they just didnt care about the technology cause the people they sell to dont care about that stuff.

I love everything about this car! I have owned this car for the past 8 months and have put over 22K miles on it without 1 issue. For me it is my daily driver and worth the price!

As an owner of this car, I can tell you that you only need that centre vent for super hot days. They come on automatically when you set the climate control to LO. the automatic mode is more than enough to freeze you on even toasty days.

Because...smokers!! I disliked having the center vent open while I was trying to smoke and drive; it would blow the ashes all through the car and over me. Closing the center vent theoretically pumps [a little] more breeze through the corners, so you still get your conditioned air - with a little burst of cool if you crack the driver's side window - which you should - unless you're my sister-in-law and therefore essentially a stupid, gross, pig - OMFG, that's why the USA makes VentShades.

I would disagree that this is an alternate to a S-Class or 7 Series. To me, I think that this is a closer competitor to the Audi RS 7, BMW M6 Sedan or Benz CLS 63.

The worst part is that you have to look at a screen to move the vents, in my opinion is incredibly stupid, why do i have to move the eyes from the road to look at a screen to set something on the central console, I mean we had a pretty good solution already, dials and buttons you can operate with no need to stop looking at them road.
I wish they put a tesla style screen in the middle and got rid of that huge climate control nonsense in the middle. They could have saved so much space by using a simple row of knobs instead of that capacitive stuff. They could have put a 15 inch screen there!

The Porsche is a car MADE FOR AUTOBAHN so you will travel at 200 very often. (apart from this you can't go 200 with a Tesla for a long time...)

Great review. I love my Porsche Panamera S. It "only" has 400 HP (no Turbo). The Panamera definitely earns one of the top scores on Doug's list. It is a great all around car. It may not be as fast as a 911, or a Corvette, but with 4 large seats I can take my friends out to dinner in style.

I had a 2018 and loved pretty much everything about it! Only cons were
1) cup holder in the backseat also has a small plastic piece that has to be lifted to put drink in and people would never realize and it would immediately punch a hole in the bottom of a styrofoam cup and spill everywhere.. happened multiple times
2) MY ABSOLUTE LEAST FAVORITE is no way to start vehicle from the remote like any regular car… yes, there is an app however I always had problems logging in and loading. I was no patient enough for the app
3) did not have a surround view. I did order the car and I believe there was an option for it and I didn’t get it which I regretted. Not 100% sure if there was an option at the time though.
4) screen taking time to appear when starting vehicle and if didn’t wait and put in reverse, rear view camera might not display or the sensors. Super annoying when you get in a Kia and they turn it on and immediately put in reverse and the camera come on the exact second that they do.
ITS A PORSCHE- handling is amazing! One of my favorite vehicles I ever owned. It was not bought for a daily driver yet it quickly became my daily driver because it was too much fun to drive and truly a convenient vehicle.

Often its not a loose connection. Most of the time its because a lot of dust has accumulated in the plug. Get a toothpick and get it out and it'll work again.

My dad bought a panamera 4s a few years ago and it took him barely any time to get use to. Doug, it's funny because he was leaning towards an s class but I told him the exact same thing that you said in the beginning of the video. He had just turned 50 when he bought it, and I also told him that if he wanted to feel like he was younger, and not an old man, he should pick this car over the s class. And he couldn't be happier. When I started driving me, it maybe took me 2 weeks to get use to, so even though its a wider car, it's not too hard to get in custom too. Great review though and love the channel!

I used to be a manager at a home depot last year and twice a week some guy with a Panamera hatchback was using it as a hatchback. Filling it up with lumber, all sorts of construction supplies, and so on. Was one of the silliest things I've ever seen.

Looking at the rear door or any of the doors, it’s crazy how thick car doors in general are today compared with doors from older cars and trucks. The Panamera’s door is easily three times as thick as a 911’s door from the 1980’s.

The reason the ignition is one the left side has nothing to do with fastening your seatbelt during the LeMans start. In fact Porsche made it that way, so their race drivers could turn the key and at the same time shift into first gear to save them some time.

As a Porsche purist, I previously viewed this car with the same disdain as the Cayenne. What business does Porsche have getting into the SUV and Luxury sedan market? The 911, “go where you think it” is their core competency. Well, I take it back. This thing is crazy good, albeit for a slightly different market. Not sure how many older drivers would opt for it as it isn’t “living room” comfortable, but I think those of us who have grown up with sports cars and are getting older would slide into this like a greased pig. Thank you so much, Doug, for this expose! And, BTW, I live right down the road from Sloan’s Porsche. May be paying them a visit very soon!

It's really dissapointing to see that now, in 2017, where phones are able to smoothly run 2k at 60fps the infotainment system in a $140,000 Porsche seems to be running at 14fps or less. Look at the screens sliding to the side or that animation of the spoiler. I just don't get why there's such a push for touchscreens in cars when they can't even make it look nice.

Robert Johnson that's not true. Take the s class or the 7 series, their screens are silky smooth. I mean, my golf 2016 seemed less laggy then the porsche.. feels like the processor is too small for the amount of tech the infotainment has..
Yeah, what's stopping them from just talking to someone like Nvidia or Intel and just make them a decent CPU that can also work at extreme temperatures ? Also normal PC CPU's can work at extreme temperatures ( look up liquid nitrogen cooling or the TJ max of CPU's which is around 90C) . Reliability is also not a problem since we have server CPU's which work at 100% capacity 24/7 for years without missing a beat . Edit: It's not the touchscreen that's laggy , it's the chips that power it that are underpowered and old.

Fantastic Autobahn missile, gotta love Porsches. A couple of corrections to the corks; In Germany, by law, any vehicle that leaves the dealer or manufacturer without V max. mounted tires, for the specific model, has to have a warning sticker informing the mounted tires V max. mounted on the dash, in the eyeline of the driver. As to the left key placement; Porche having a history of racing, placing the ignition key to the left, makes the access for the mechanic that mush easier, to start and shut off the engine, without entering the car (in racing, a H belt is used anyways).

I leased one of these for 2 years and was so happy to give it back! The damn center vent on that thing drove me nuts. I'm now in a Macan and I don't regret "downgrading." Every single time I got in the Panamera, I had to deal with the vent because there was no way to make it stay in the same position using a memory feature.
I had a 2015 E Hybrid S Panamera before the 2017 and I preferred that for every day driving
