- This is another abandoned car recovery, the car in question had been locked up for 30 years (another 40 in total!) The previous owner started collecting cars and before he knew it the cars in the garage we’re completely trapped and would never see the road again.. until now!
This location was very well known in the classic car world, being known as the Rover Mans House as there were15 Cars outside mostly Rovers P6’s... And all of them were V8’s! I was lucky enough to be invited to this absolutely incredible location by Sheldon from Classic Britain, after speaking with the new owners we were both able to go along & film this and the part 2 video.. and now the recovery of my new project car! Hope you enjoy this video guys 😎

7:40 I am 52 years old and that's the first P6 Estate I've ever seen. Rare is an understatement.
I'm 57, & my dad had a P6 V8 in the '70s. Never seen an estate though, seen a picture of one once & this is the first one I've seen on film. I just don't understand why surrounded by all those V8s a guy would buy a ragtop Golf. Even if the bodywork's rotten those engines go on for ever. Perfect for a project. Never will understand hoomans.
@@AnthonyIlstonJones exactly. Such a shame to see them go off for scrap. Proper cars, unlike cars of today.
What a fitting video for today! I have just been 5 hours down south dragging Escorts and Orion's out of a yard to get to the one I've bought! Was in a right state, took 1 hours to get it safely on the trailer and two and a half hours to get it off! Bloody exhausting! Congrats - barn finds are literally the most exciting thing
I want a orion! 😭
I watch your videos with great interest but this is the best and I can’t help thinking that you’re one lucky B !!! 👍👍👍👍🇬🇧
Such a shame more of these wonderful cars couldn’t be saved. Good on ya fella !
Lots of good parts to be had on them rovers, contact the owners club before scrapping.
damn this hit me close to heart, i love rescue's of abandoned cars of any sorts, seeing a white mk1 golf get pulled out of a garage is amazing, my family has been golf fans since late 80's, im a 2000's kid so i never got to experience that, when i was like 4-8 years old, i would go outside, we live next to soviet garages, those that are in any soviet countries, from the 60+ garages that are there, only like 20 are used for past 20 years, so i always wonder whats behind those abandoned doors, but i can never know, but when i was 4-8 years old, there was this nice old man with a cane that had a white mk1 golf 4 door, he was always working on it and keeping it nice in that garage, always went to him and he was there every other day, mk1 golf 4 doors are rarer than 2 door ones, he would give me a ride to the store, first golf i ever rid in, and then after 8 years of age, i stopped seeing that old man, he wasnt at his garage anymore, and he sort of disappeared, can give it the benefit-of-the-doubt, and say that ''he moved away'' but i doubt that little golf was able to drive that far on its own, so im guessing that he passed away, and that the golf is sitting there rotting since 2013, would love to rescue it one day, planning to get mk2 golf as my first car.
Brilliant! Hope the Triumph and Riley go soon. The P6s ought to be stripped of usable parts before scrapping. Next door neighbour can cut the hedge down now!
@@harvdog5669 it's a hedge..
@@karlos543 oh right, a hedge.. I always understood that.... Sorry about my phone miss spelling some parts of one of my msg...have a nice evening...
Nice. My mum had one of these. I have fond memories of her driving me and my brother to school. Me and my mum singing Motown. My brother cringing in embarrassment. 😁
What a super find that Golf is, good luck with the restoration, can’t wait for the updates.
Brilliant, really nice to see there are Cars to Save still out there and what a find for both cars, you are saving a bit of automotive History and hopefully keeping the memory of what these cars were when in their prime. Shame about the cars that were really beyond saving, they were really too far gone. Love the videos and good to see young guys with a real interest in legacy cars.
Ooooo that's old I love old cars 🚘🚘. Cars are like humans. Lots of fun form England
Omg that's so rare I with have it
Yes I love cars. In the garages it's my Haven
Excellent find with all the correct interior and exterior parts, 5.5x13 alloys are correct. 4 speed box ect.
Don't try to start it untill the fuel tank and pipes have been replaced .
You will pack the cold start valve with rust .
I owned dozens of these and nearly 100 Sciroccos so if you need to know anything.
I can help.
Got any scirocco parts for sale? Im restoring a gt2
Hi, Great video, love the Rover 3500s, I have a 50,000-mile V8s engine fully rebuilt many years ago though!!! Scrapped my father's car wish I hadnt but kept the engine.
Love the Golf good luck with the renovation and if the last Rover comes on the market I'm interested.
ive watched so many of these videos over the years, but this is just my favourite, ive spent the last 30 years restoring classic fords and i can relate to the thrill of finding some really old relics,,and the struggles and challenges of removing them..great video great story mate..excellent...
End of an era for some, so sad, but others to be saved. Be nice to see them when restored. Thanks for the uploads, brings back memory`s, take care.
Good man Shelden, for invited you to this location & you getting a great car out of it,Salvage rebuilds has got one of these he is doing up worth having a look on his channel, take care look forwards to seeing you getting it back on the rd.
Absolutely brilliant 👍 lovely seeing these restored, and another lease of life, so many out there 😌 great wrk great video 👌
One of the best ones I like is when you are taking temporary or permanent possession of a car from someone which has a pumped up legally usable spare wheel, jack and brace, then when you get a puncture you find the brace doesn't fit ! ! 😀😁😂😃😀😁😂😃😊😀😁😂
Heritage Parts Centre do all the parts you need for the Mk1 Jack is super helpful with the golfs ask for him 👍🏻
Awesome thank you 😊
Don’t ever change the intro music, it’s perfect 👌 gives me goose bumps every time and sets the scene for discovering past treasures. Keep up the good work my friend 👍
Agreed AK - Our destination is a perfect choice although I do miss the other song he used to use by AK - Love story
I agree!
Does any of you 3 can tell me the Name of the current intro, please?
@@lucyxchan6808 Andrew Guy above mentioned it, it’s called AK - Our Destination
@@The_Last_Post sorry overlooked it, and thank you. Have a nice day/evening.
Hi Colin great to see some of the cars going to new home, what a job you have had, classic cars saved good job everyone, can't wait to see them all restored and looking as new, great video
Can see why you are excited about buying this Golf! What a find, looking forward to seeing this become what you want.
My wife heard me watch this video and asked what is going on... I said the Bearded Explorer just bought a Golf Mk1 convertible stored for 30 years, the lucky bugger! 👍👌🙏
Congrats bro!
Bet the neighbourhood house prices jumped up as soon as they were removed though.
What a great find. Love them.
There are lots of spares in that garage.
Oh my word!!! I'm so envious! What a gem of a find. I'd be happy to drive it around myself ;-)
Oh my guys what a fined...

Awesome guys nice golf and the v8 rover aswell as the triumph..typical of Sheldon bashing the wing on the rover lol
Brilliant video Colin another load of classics saved and rightly too. Can't wait for next exciting episode thanks.
What a lovely video to watch. A great insight into recovering a barn find.👏👏👏👏👏
Was a pleasure to meet you on the day colin cracking video the white rover is up and running and I went back for the dark green one :)
Likewise, wow that’s amazing 😎👌🏽
Those scrap cars have plenty of parts that would be handy for people I am sure. Getting hard to get now. Even simple things like windscreens and door class should have been salvaged and given to owners clubs etc. Please say they weren't just squashed?
Congrats on the purchase nice find
Great to see some of the cars going to good homes.
I used to restore SD1 Rovers, but I stick to classic motorcycles now.
The TR6 and the Riley 1.5 deserve to be saved. The TR6 is my favourite British sports car. A cookery teacher at my school drove a TR6, all the boys , including me fancied her and her car!
Good luck with the Golf restoration!
What great barn finds. The wee Riley is a lovely restoration project. Good on you for saving the VW Golf. I look forward to seeing the finished restoration, it will be a great car. Young Pete Townshend was pleased to get the Rover P6.
Excellent so glad they've been saved, there's something so gangster about them rover p6
awesome video love the rovers and vw golf great find good luck and I look forward to an update
A absolutely excellent save of the Golf, no doubt well on its way to being back on the road by now, being stored under cover has kept it well, Great to see a couple of the Rover P6 being saved as well, that P6 estate is well rare, I genuinely have never seen one before!
It's a shame the rest of the P6s had been left to rot they should have been saved decades ago!
Love these vids. I really hope to see videos of the restoration. Thanks for posting and hello from New Jersey USA
Wow! Thankyou for sharing this amazing find good luck with the resto cant wait to see it back on the road!
Well done, man. You deserve it, and great to see the Golf going to a good home.
Wow that's unreal. Can't wait to see it All finished. My old mk3 golf gti is away to the paint shop fingers crossed I have it back in a month 🤞👍
Best vid by far what great finds glad to see them going to new homes 👍🏻

Great finds great video look forward to seeing the Golf restored to all its glory
I'm not much into cars but I do like a Golf ! Your enthusiasm and obvious happiness at getting her means that I'll be looking out for the restoration.. can't wait.
The Golf was the last thing I expected to see in the garage!
Awesome find and a cracking buy 👍
I agree, such a nice golf, and luckily it was storaged in a garage really good
Great finds and acquisitions Colin, well done for saving them. Shame that the rovers outside were so far gone as would have been good donors, look forward to seeing them on the road.
Sorry...forgot to say....You videos are THE best....the explores...and I absolutey love the cars.
Great to see these cars being saved, Well done chaps.
Got yourself a great find there, looking forward to seeing your progress with it, and the beemer too👍
This car reminds me of the 1983 GTI I had in the U.S. There is something about a light light, nimble car that makes it a lot of fun...it goes to show that it does not necessarily take a lot of horsepower to be enjoyable--you can more easily drive the car at it's limits as well.
Great find & good luck,ur work is stunning always great channel & 1 of the best👍✔️
Great video all them P6 Rovers that brown P6 amazing condition it was in good luck with the restoration of the Cabrio Golf
Never seen an estate version of the Rover P6 in my life, and I'm 52.
Love the TR6, and your new Golf of course.
Great video, as all of your uploads are, one of the most interesting channels I have ever subscribed to.
Nice one mate👍
VW Heritage parts for any bits you need.
Very nice, what a find with a golf she will be a beauty when she's done👍👍👍
Excellent stuff! Can’t wait to see the journey with this one. We’ve got one of the very last of the convertibles, also in alpine white.
Congrats on your new car. Glad to see you so delighted. l
What a beautiful car! 😍 so pleased for you! Enjoy mate and keep up with the brilliant videos ❤
My car is a 1992 mk3 golf, and it was registered on the 19th October 1992, so before my car was even registered this car was being left in a garage for nearly 30 years, wow. kinda amazing to think about it. My golf only has 50K miles on it so but has gotten some from life regarding scratched dents but apart from that its nice! Good luck with this thing, cant wait to see it on the road again!
You look at that Golf and think what a waste and shame its been locked away unused all those years. But then you realise it wasn't rare in 1992 and would have seen a lot of winters a lot of salt on the road it would have probably rotted then scrap time. The only reason its still around is because its been kept in what looks like a dry garage. That is a proper Gem looks solid well worth some tlc. Good luck with it i will look out for the videos of the work being done. Such a shame about the rovers outside.
Awesome find, my friends dad had the same as this in black at the same time I had a 79 gti tintop one of the big regrets selling, had a awesome tsr engine in.
Looks very tidy, the grill is incorrect though would of been single lights at this age. Make sure you check the tank as they were prone to rust don't want the rust getting near the injection system. Also where clutch cable comes through the bulkhead the rhd on early golf's was an afterthought and they basically drilled a hole with a bung. This causes the bulkhead to flex and can split or rust through. Not sure about the gearbox it looked like a 5 spd knob but early ones were 4 spd but this is an 80 so might be a change over model.
Keep it original as you can.
❤️ that's your beat. He brouht one classic and he knows he's a lucky bastard. He is the new mad man to store it Lol
Brilliant video! 👍👍👀
Wow that was great 👍 congrats to you. Thanks for sharing
Seeing that golf gti seeing daylight brought a tear to my eye.Well saved bruv👍👍A mate of mine had one in black also a cabriolet.Nice
Great video . Thanks guys , and well done .
Nice one bro happy for you such a sick car can’t wait to see it in it’s former glory
Great to see these fantastic cars going to get a New Life....
Very good find that one and good condition lucky lucky.
Wasn't expecting that in the garage!!As for the Rover estate,I don't think I've ever seen one of those at all before and I'm 55!!xx
Presumably Rover Man was always going to get around to restoring them all one day. A warning to the rest of us horders not to hang on to stuff for too long if, heart of hearts, you know you will never do anything. I feel sorry for his family who have had to make arrangements for all his life's hording to simply be scrapped, aside from the Golf and a couple of the others of course.
Wow what an amazing find 👍👍
WOW good find 👏👏👏👏
Cool video, good luck restoring them!
That was extremely satisfying! Hats off to you guys for saving these automobiles.
Best wishes to you both from Florida!
Nice to see a pre-gti one in such good condition, lucky bugger haha
Nice 1 Colin at least two of the cars are safe fingers crossed some more will be saved , great video 👍😎👍
I had a 91 rabbit convertible that I put a newer 2.0T jetta engine into it..was a blast. A buddy of mine has the fastest one in the world and it's also the fastest fwd convertible in the world as well...fun cars
Super cool 😎 cars!!!
Great video, really enjoyed it.
Hi Bearded Explorer, You need to talk to Chris & Rob
Outstanding...I thought it was gonna be a Scirocco or a Corrado....and those Rovers....the estate....I wanna see the Gli driving around Pompey soon.
Brilliant video! 👍
