"A Love Bizarre" is a song written by Prince and Sheila E. The song is a duet between both singers and it appears on Sheila E.'s 1985 album Romance 1600. It clocks in at 12:16, but the single version is 3:46 in duration. It made its debut in the music movie Krush Groove.
Throughout the song, Prince interpolates the traditional French folk song "Frère Jacques" on bass guitar.[2]
The song was a major hit and reached #1 on the Urban radio airplay and Dance/Club play charts.[3] On other American charts, "A Love Bizarre" went to #2 on the U.S. R&B charts and #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Pop radio airplay charts.[4] The German 12" single release is backed by the B-side "Save the People" which also served as the B-side for her previous single "Sister Fate". She performed the song as part of Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band during their 2001, 2003 and 2006 tours.
Prince was not only a ghostwriter, he taught his artists to embrace his spirit. He wrote these songs for God sakes
This is really a duet. He can be heard as much as Sheila. Sheila E is still the bomb
🔥This is video from the hip hop classic movie Krush Groove. It was written, produced and sung by Shelia and Prince.
Shiela E ,Latino Goddess, and yes that is Prince 💕💕💕❤️on the backing vocals
My favorite thing is she is singing over/with Prince! I think it should be listed as a duet. But either way, this song is fire! 🔥
The live performance together with Prince in 1986 is pure 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Do that one next. Energy is just off the charts! 1986-1988 Prince Live, just unbeatable.
You mean 1984-92
@@Kickinthescience
Yeah, sure. We can extend it to 1992. But Parade, SOTT, Black album and Lovesexy within those years together with the Live aspect. Absolutely stunning.
...This Song was about Sheila & Prince's secret love affair...It was ONLY supposed to be just her vocalizing, but Prince 'added' soulful vocals to it....It peaked at #11 Pop for 3 weeks, early 1986....
Been rolling on my playlist for years! Love Sheila! Back in the day, you really didn’t see female percussionists, so when she hit with The Glamorous Life, we were all floored.
YAASSSS! A perfect 8 out of 8 10s across the board for my Thriller Pack picks! This has been such a fun start to the new year watching your reactions Empress! Thank you!!!! I am also enjoying being educated by my fellow Empressionists in the comments with the history and knowledge of all these songs including this one. Had no idea that this was really more of a duet with Prince with both of them basically singing the entire song together. This is another song that immediately got me out to the dance floor in my clubbing days. 😄🕺🏼
I saw Prince in concert in 2013. A Love Bizarre was on his set list! 🥰
Oh wow!
Another Prince track where its worth tracking down the Extended Album Cut and finding the video performance of Prince & The Revolution combined with Sheila's band performing this song live. Fire!
Prince gave her the songs, production, look and renamed her sheila e after she was known as sheila escovedo, latin jazz percussionist. It was in the movie Krush Groove, a classic hip hop movie
There's a live version of this on CZcams where she plays on the Johnny Carson show. Her and her band absolutely kill this with some wicked Latin Afro Cuban stuff at the end where she's playing drums
💜 It is so fun that Sheila was such a Prince muse, and this song is so deep groove 80s Prince it couldn’t be anything but 🔥 especially with Prince on “backing” vocals… tho that man’s voice always commands attention. Also… Shout out to the thickly accessorised 80s vehement denial of Coco Chanel’s rule to take one thing off before leaving the house! 80s style was all about PILE MORE STUFF ON! And I just noticed that’s the handsome Blair Underwood in the casually underdeveloped narrative of the video (before he became world famous on the show LA Law), looked it up and this video is a montage version of a club scene in a movie called Krush Groove that I may now have to track down 🎞🔍
You should see the Live version of this song performed with Prince 💕💕💕
And you know , Sheila E is still out here doing it today in 2023, and still looking so doing it! I know she misses Prince with all of her heart tho… RIP Prince 🙏🏾💜🎤🎸🎼🎹🥁🎧💐🕊️
SHEILAEOBSESSED! Always loved this song and video...those looks and moves are FIRE! Reminds me of the time I had a Prince Protege themed BDAY party in the 90's called "The Glamorous Life".
🤣🤣now that sounds coola
You know it! It's PRINCE...He's also on The Glamorous Life which I think you've already reacted to:)
... No this is beyond that standard 80's corny ass Saxophone. This is, how you perfectly put it, that funky MPLS funk saxophone. Check out the extended version 12 minutes if you want Prince saxophone layering perfection. Good God that version! One of his finest work.
Mad respect on this bass line.
🔥
💯💯
Prince would write a song for a woman that he is digging and then let them fly on their own. Sheila, Vanity Sinead O'Connor.
I knew you'd like the line--it gets kinda rough in the back of our limousine.
hahaha dang am i that predictable
Shelia a beast
1985 funk heaven! My four year old self had this on a 45 record!
Baby Dan had taste💯🤣
Krush Groove!!! The movie that’s featured in this video. I think she performs this song in the movie as well.
This was such a huge hit back in the day. I remember it being on the radio all the time.
But to be quite honest this is a duet at best, more like a Prince track with Sheila E on backing vocals. She's great though.
Swagger! Sheila E released this on the Paisley Park label and Prince co-wrote and produced the song and it sounds to my ears like he sang the second part on the recording even though he doesn't show up in the video. It probably would have overshadowed the show if he had and she deserves the showcase on this song. "A Love Bizarre" made its debut in the 1985 musical comedy-drama Krush Groove, featuring a cast of Hip-Hop legends -- Run-D.M.C., LL Cool J, Kurtis Blow, Fat Boys, New Edition, Beastie Boys and Chaka Khan and Debbie Harry -- including Sheila E, as herself, playing the object of competing affections in the movie. I saw the movie a few years after its release; However, I remember hearing the song quite a lot at social events that year. Setting aside the eighties for a spell, two years ago this month Sheila E did the kid of some friends of mine whose band equipment was stolen after a gig a total solid when she gave him one of her drum kits to replace his stolen kit. Major respect!
yes.
A song called Scream of Passion is a good one a prince proegy
Anither sheila e factoid, prince was getting her band together, which included music group Tony, tone',Toni as back up singers. He fired them, took sheila e's guitar player and bass player, and made sheila e drummer in his own band. Worked out for tony toni tone' too
Shelia is close but believe Denise matthews miss vanity was princes twin and his first true love. Said she was his female version of him
I like your poster behind you
Thanks!
Appolonia and Vanity were more like Prince clones and it was more about marketing rather than talent. So a lot of people were kind of shocked when Prince actually wrote and produced music for a very talented musician in her own right. Sheila E has done some really cool jazz albums without Prince's involvement. She's a real musician that Prince admired and toured with up to his final days. Prince was big on sax and brass lines around this time. I believe this hit came out during his "Around the World in a Day" period. That was quite an era just like "Purple Rain" was to those who followed it.
Interesting ‼️With all that said she still looked exactly like Prince 🤣
Kiss and A Love Bizarre where competing in the top ten here in Germany at the time: spring of '86...Parade - era ;)
I've always loved Sheila E's talent, and I wanted her to be my baby's momma. Just saying!
The Belle of St. Mark is the Sheila E song that I'm most familiar with.
Yeah you hear just as much of Prince on this song .Just like on The Stick ,you hear much of prince than Morris Day
💯
Dope😁👊🏾=10
Thus was from the hip hop movie Krush Groove about "allegedly" how Def Jam Records started. You have got to do a reaction to this movie. You may recognize a lot of VERY young celebrities. 🤔Ijs!
Never heard of the movie until this song
KRUSH GROOVE is a classic. Right up there with BEAT STREET & BREAKIN' for me!!!
Eddie M on sax
The male voice is all Prince
❤ LOVE ❤ LOVE ❤ LOVE;: Shelia E and the song:: (As a guilty pleasure) This track would neve everr make my personal Playlist..The synthetic robot on the drums sounds dated and lacks Soul..Unfortunately the only prince cit that can make my list is Money doesn't matters n Sex M.F .. Sincerely.. I'm a real tough sell.. Poppie *.. P..S. I do agree..The alto sax was on point ..MACEO-MACEO= James Brown always makes my V..I.P..list..
Prince Knew How to make a Hit and Groom some Great Artists! The Video will Always Be Sexy and the Song will Always Be in Our Hearts.
🔥
Empress .. kinky...how u know kinky? Becuz u kinky.... hahahaha
Lots better than Madonna. Thats for sure.
It’s a Prince song with Prince. Madonna can write her own tracks. Produce. Dance. Neither are great vocalists. But one has more range. Sheila a percussionist that found a way to get a solo career…. Do what you gotta do. Even if she’s really into women…. This song pales in comparison to quite a few M tracks. But there’s no need to diss one to build up another.
@@slimlouis6441 My comment is in reference to the large number of Madonna track reviews within this channel. I have nothing against Madonna. Thats all.
