I spontaneously and unexpectedly started crying at the end when she said "I hope you're excited to have them and that it doesn't stress you out."....I guess I am feeling the pressure just a bit. 😊I just had to laugh about it. Don't be me. Lol!!
Lol, both our young adult kids moved out of our very tiny house this past summer… and you know it, TOOK THEIR BEDS! One room needs a total overhaul, new windows, maybe a back door to a new deck, new flooring, oh my, so that will have to wait a minute. Every idea is lovely for the other. I’m really looking forward to fixing things up and having company.
I had a lovely aunt who passed away some years back, and her house was honestly my favorite place to vacation. She had two lovely guest bedrooms (she decorated with a lot of her childhood dolls and quilts, very sweet and comfy, great place to put those things) and when we went for Thanksgiving I’d try hard to repay her by bringing nifty kitchen gadgets (she’d not had an immersion blender for ex, that was a fun one) and helping to decorate and cook for 50 or so (yep) guests on the holiday. (I mean, it was a lot of potluck, we weren’t insane!) She was so amazing, & you remind me of her a bit Jen :) Smart, funny, great to hang out with, thoughtful, and super relaxed. We’d start Thanksgiving morning in our robes, watching the NYC parade on TV (we’re in CA so that’s handy) and drinking coffee with Bailey’s. Sorry to go on but I miss her so much! Many golden days to remember.
Very nice guest rooms & great vlog. Karen's bonus clip was hilarious!
One thing I always suggest for guest bedrooms, airb&bs, vrbos, etc is a fold up luggage rack. You can get inexpensive ones like they have at hotels on Amazon or very nice wooden ones as well. I have a bad back and bending over to unpack my suitcase is a pain. I cringe at putting a suitcase (esp after travelling) on a nice clean bed. Inexpensive thing that makes life so much easier and it folds up and slips in a closet when not in use. I have 2 in my own home for my personal use since we travel so much. Makes packing and unpacking so so much easier when I don't have to get down on the floor.
When I was in High School and we had exchange students come and stay with us, I always liked shopping for local postcards (with appropriate stamps) that the guests could use to send home or keep as souvenirs. It sounds like Chez Lefforge is a great place to stay!
Such a great idea! And thank you!
Jen, you are a very gracious, thoughtful hostess. Personally, I love the fan idea, being partial to the white noise they provide. When I've been a guest, cleaning up just before leaving is my gift to those hosting me. Note of interest: in our home, each room had it's own thermostat. Even as a teen, then, as now, I was always cold, so this was a Godsend. More homes should have this. Love the snack tray! Beautiful rooms, lovely ladies (including you, Jen) 🤗👍
Karen's commentary 😂😂😂😂 Love when you guys are on each other's channels!
I stayed at someone's and she had towels in a basket in my room. Such a nice touch and appreciated. because I didn't have to ask or guess which ones where mine in the bathroom?
My first time visiting my now in-laws, they always put hotel samples in a little basket in the guest bathroom, very sweet and helpful. It was particularly handy for me since I had forgotten toothpaste. Unfortunately, the toothpaste had been next to a strong floral soap for a…. while… and the scent had leached through the plastic. Jasmin-Mint toothpaste gets 0/5 stars from me. I sorted through the basket and tossed some items in the outside bin, buried under other items, and they never need to know.
❤️❤️❤️
You are a wonderful, thoughtful hostess! Your guests are lucky to be staying with you!
While I somewhat disagree with some of your premises of having guests at all in the personal home, I think you raise some really valuable points on getting things ready and making them feel comfortable.
I am kind of done having family stay with me and vice versa, I just like having my own bath and space. On the flip side I also really hate hosting since there is just so much extra effort involved cleaning ect. Now if it’s my best friend coming to stay with me or a parent, I am okay with that since we are really really close. But otherwise I like the distance and being able to just plan things separately and meet up during the day for meals and activities. But I totally get where you’re coming from and you raise some cool ideas!
Loved the end part with Karen!!! 😂
Look at you and Samantha Brown putting out the same kind of content on the same day! I just moved to the beach (beach adjacent at least) this year and suddenly people want to come visit. For some reason they weren't as interested when I lived in Omaha for the last 20+ years. So I had my first guests in a VERY long time this weekend. I even went out of my way to supply chargers for Apple products even though I am absolutely not an apple house. (I even hate apple pie. 🤣) I am happy to say a good weekend was had by all and it is even better when it is with people you love!
Honestly Brenda I think I had forgotten how lovely it can be to share your home! We had a fabulous time with them. Thanks for watching!
I love the guest review ! Perfect ending!
Loved this! Both parts. Great tips for hospitality. And the “Jack and Jill bath” 😂😂. Perfection!
I put a little framed note on all the beside tables that say we have complimentary wifi (hehe) with the network name and password. More often than not we have people come in late and it's almost straight to bed, no one wants to then text you at 1am and ask what the password is. :)
Yes, add layers to the bed. Glad you touched upon this as we all do have different temperature tolerances. Curious, do you do anything different with your dogs when company is over? For example, do you tend to keep them downstairs?
#gifted. 🤣🤣🤣
The Mattress test though. Incredible!
Love the video! I like the idea of adding some kind of charging station, as well as the tray with snacks :)
You did a great job on the room! Looks very welcoming
The review at the end. 😂😂
"The shower even gave me a whistle" 🤣👍 Also, I love those trays!
I think I may buy a few more because so versatile!
What a lovely room. Great tips, Jen. Hope you have a wonderful holiday.
Very useful video. Thank you!
That was a really lovely room. And I loved the little bonus at the end. Hi Karen!
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing!
Great tips for the Holidays. ❤️😘
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️ kudos Jen!!!
What an amazing host. I would love to visit. I'm envious.
Great video. Have a wonderful visit. Loved the room review.
Mallory she was very generous in her praise!😂😂❤️
You are very thoughtful. I don't even know you but I wish I could visit 😉
Crying laughing at the room review!!!
Great video! I love the quilt & pillow shams--are you free to say where they came from?
They're from TJ Maxx about 12 years ago. But they are from Laura Ashley Home!
So so so many great tips! We will get started on the first one by simply having a guest bedroom. 😂 I’m curious how that Casper mattress will do over time, since we’ve been looking for a new one!
My friend Coral was the first person I knew to buy one 3 years ago and her teenage sons both sleep on them and love them!
I was just thinking about you yesterday. I was looking at the advent calendars on William Sonoma and saw the Dolly Parton calendar. I remembered not to buy that one. lol I hope you do the advent calendars. That was so much fun. It would even be neat to know what ones you are doing ahead so we could do one with you. So far I got my son a Lindt one and my husband a Walkers Shortbread calendar.
I was just there too and almost got one (not the Dolly one but a different one). I think I’m only doing the Costco wine one and the Elemis one?
That is the skin one you did last year? That looked lovely last year. I really forward to your videos! Thank you!
I'm supposed to be checking my vents before guests come?!? 😳
Not the inside just the cover;)
