      The reason not to do the backwash thing on your hand is because the needle can pierce the skin and air bubbles can be forced into your bloodstream: that's normally pretty lethal. No idea if it's ever actually happened with an airbrush but it can and does happen in medicine with syringes...

      @BroadswordWargaming  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey, ah great, I'm glad you've found it helpful!
      Personally, I dont unscrew and clean the nozzle everytime, only when I feel it needs it or I've finished a session.. but, its good practice to unscrew and clean the nozzle tip, so keep at it 👌
      If you stick a brush load of airbrush cleaner in (in-between colours), you can normally keep it pretty clean.
      I did a "How to airbrush" video just a few weeks ago, if you haven't seen it. 🙂

    great video and something to push me further towards wanting to buy an airbrush - my main concern is cleaning it. I had a cheap airbrush years ago and it was never the same after I took it apart after the first go to clean it. Looking at videos on youtube for using the vallejo cleaner, they show the brush been taken apart for cleaning rather than just blowing the cleaner through. Any tips?

      @BroadswordWargaming  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey, thanks for the comment. I actually did a "how to" airbrush video just recently if you want to check it out, it does cover some cleaning. 😀
      I would normally advise running water and/or cleaner through the brush inbetween different paints, and then giving it a full breakdown at the end of a session. You may also need to clean the tip or needle during a session if the paint has dried.

    • @BroadswordWargaming
      @BroadswordWargaming  Před 3 lety +2

      Hey, thanks! Oh amazing, glad you found the last one useful.
      There could be a few reasons as to why it's drying. If it is flowing ok, then it may not be too thick, but otherwise yes.
      It will always dry up on the end, especially if you're using it for a prolonged period (or started spraying and left it for a few mins before spraying again). Make sure to stick some cleaner in the end, between colours (with a brush), to keep the needle and nozzle clean.
      Don't fill the cup up too much, or it'll likely clog before you've gotten through all the paint.
      Could also be low pressure, meaning it isn't pushing through "hard" enough.
      Hopefully it's one of those reasons. 😀 Keep trying. I think I had a tendancy to over things my paints, which isn't the worst thing to do when starting.

    I've painted for about 9 or 10 months now after a 36 or 35 year break in the hobby. I only airbrushed model jets and the life back when I was a teenager and I'm 49 now. I think I know what to do but sure I have gaps in my knowledge so I still watch beginner videos. I'm hoping to learn a good way to airbrush inside my tiny man cave w/o getting paint spray everywhere. My PC sits right next to my painting table, don't have room to move it anywhere else. I have a window behind my desk but it's difficult to open due to my deep L shaped desk. Is there a unit that is good to remove airborne spray w/o connecting to the window? Doh, a light box could be that eh? Acrylic paint is pretty harmless from what I've read. Don't need to drink it or smoke it but it's pretty harmless. Unlike the old days of lacquer paints I used to use and the lead miniatures we painted back in the 70s & 80s.

      Hey! So, you can get extraction boxes that don't have to go to a window. Search for them on amazon, as that'll probably be what you're after.
      Personally, I dont get much trouble with over spray or particles when in in doors (but im in a well ventilated space). I wouldn't advise doing doing indoors, with no extraction or ventilation for extended periods of time, as you can eventually "taste"/"feel" the particles.. which is probably not good. We have to look after ourselves too 😀

    I received an airbrush for my birthday LAST YEAR and haven't used it! Tbh I've been pretty scared to use it (like you do when you get new things) I may give it a go now - thanks guys

      You can do it. If you haven't seen the "how to airbrush" video, check that one out too.
      Like yourself, I was kind of scared to give it a go, so I really want to help people who haven't quite built up the nerve to use it. 😀 I'm glad you've found it useful.
      I love my airbrush, it's the best tool I own.

    I've just finished my spray can primer and since I've bought an airbrush I'm tempted to go on to airbrush primers such as Vallejo's. However, I've heard the primer isn't very durable? I always put a thin layer of spray can primer anyway.

    • @RobertSmith-pm7db
      @RobertSmith-pm7db Před 3 lety

      I use the vallejo primers through an airbrush, I used to have some issues with it flaking, but found some discussions on various forums that suggest you should let the primer cure for 24 hours before painting over it, not had any issues since I started doing this. Longer term, when airbrushing you usually seal with gloss/Matt varnish to protect the final paint scheme anyway

    I have thought about getting an airbrush if I was to ever take the big plunge into the hobby. If I was going to play AOS or 40K and being painting a big army. That way it could go smoother and quicker for larger quantities of models. Also I like what I have seen from others who pair up the airbrush along side inks. Great video and I look forward to the next one. Cannot wait till this plague is past us and we can live normally again.

    for practical purposes, is it possible ot just use regular spray can primer for the priming portion? just to cut down on the amount of airbrush fiddling?

      @BroadswordWargaming  Před 2 lety +1

      Absolutely. I had gone off spray primers, but recently got some chaos black and leadblecher, and love it again. I would still use the airbrush if I was after more accuracy though (which I normally am for space Marine armour).

    I noticed that the beer can disappeared after the priming was done. Is beer only necessary for the first step or can it be used throughout? 😂. Enjoyed the video - as someone who’s just got their first airbrush, this was the encouragement I needed to get started.

    I don't use paint brushes for mixing inside the pot, I use silicone tipped tools. They are hardier than bristles but still soft and pretty much completely clean up with a quick slosh in some water.

    Thank you for the nice and funny video. For the Vallejo Primer, Do not use the Airbrush Cleaner as a flow Improver, it will "break"and weaken your paint. Use the flow Improver instead, though you can go with Thinner only if you don't have the improver to add it to the mix. my 2 cents.

    I only backspray if I've got cleaning liquid in, otherwise you're just running the risk of having paint muck run back up deep inside the brush via capillary action. Fine if you don't mind giving it a fully disassembly and clean every so often.
