@1:10 Never, ever will be a free kick then or now in our great game.. Umpires then & now changing the final results of close games..
@1:56 RIP #21 Shane Tuck 20th July 2020
Disagree, that was clearly in the back
feel bad for rich o
Still haven't got over this game
RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!
@@sectokia1909 Pretty much mate, major Adelaide nuffie vibes after this game :)
Even going for Essendon I don’t agree with this at all
Not only was that a bullshit free kick 50 meters was a joke as if you hear the whistle look how loud it is.
Even if he heard it though, he’s obviously going to think it’s for his mark
Richo havin a sook...geez thats unusual!!
This still pisses me off now 15 years later
Yet again the Score Review get it wrong... when will the AFL get these right?
How about the flipper at the end by lordo
Hello Americans from reddit
The only redeeming aspect of this call was that James Brayshaw had to wear a mankini
The rule at the time was "No hands in the Back" so the rule was applied correctly for that time.
No, it wasn’t
@@jcollishaw Yes it was!
@@rodhill7888 yeah, nah it wasn’t. This was before the hands on the back rule. Was actually one of the reasons it came in, to take out the questionable calls around how much force there was. But this was absolutely before that rule
@@jcollishaw In 2007, the AFL introduced an interpretation of the push in the back in marking contests, referred to as hands in the back. Under the rule, any player who placed his hands upon an opponent's back in a marking contest, whether there was a visible push or not, would be penalized. 2007 was the first year of its introduction and implementation, so the umpire was correct and why Richo was miffed, because he was not yet up with Rule.
@@rodhill7888 I stand corrected. I remember it coming in later
Horrendous Poor richo
As someone who has no clue what is happening... What happened?
When you say you have no idea what’s happening, do you mean you don’t even understand the rules of AFL?
Assuming that you know a little bit about the sport… scores are level, the game is down to no more than a couple of minutes left, and both teams are desperate for any score. At 1:11 Richmond’s (yellow and black) Matthew Richardson marks the ball, plays on, and kicks a goal from 50 metres. However, the umpire judges that he pushed his opponent in the back which is against the rules. 99% of AFL fans agree that the contact he made doesn’t meet the definition of ‘push in the back’ either now or back at the time of this clip.
Because Richardson played on (because he thought the umpire blew the whistle to signal his mark, not because he had done anything wrong) and kicked the ball, the umpire also paid a 50 metre penalty (essentially because he kicked the ball away in what could be considered a time wasting tactic if he had done it deliberately). That means that the Essendon (red and black) player not only gets the free kick, but gets to advance 50 metres down the field for free before taking that kick.
Anyway, this whole situation leads to Essendon scoring down the other end and winning the game, when Richardson did nothing wrong and kicked a goal for Richmond down the other end. This is seen as one of the most controversial final minutes of a game in recent history
Tambling LOL
Clearly in the back . Boo hoo Richmond fans
I forgot how terrible Richmond use to be lol bunch of no names running around the ground that night
Edwards and Riewoldt did OK. Richo, Bowden, Deledio were All-Australians more than once.
Matthew Richardson’s , Tambling , Shane tuck , Andrew krakouer
Go The Bombers !!
