  • Plastering and Stucco trowel warped or bent, how to fix.
Welcome to stucco college. Don't throw away bent or crooked trowels; repair or fix them.
Hears some background wisdom from lessons learned from our past.
Below are all the basic tools we use and recommend on Amazon's website.

Howdy guys and gals, ever wonder why you can't plaster a wall well?
If so, this video is for you; learn how to fix a warped plastering trowel.
Yes, 95 percent can be fixed?
For those that are goners, use them for scraping or cleaning up.
Perhaps your trowel is cockeyed or crooked.
On this job, it made me laugh when my son Dan shouted, "Dad! This material sucks.
It won't spread right," I thought to myself, "I said that same thing over 25 years ago."
Fortunately, I worked with an expert (Fred Smith) who straightened me out back then and explained this technique.
Lastly, notice the trowel I used to repair.
This warped one was one of my crappy trowels, don't use a good trowel to fix a bad one, or you will end up with 2 bad trowels.
Like the old joke, "what do you tell a guy with 2 black eyes?" Nothing, he's already been told twice.

Hey Hmanonontario, sometimes it is the tools but I have encountered warped, bent or crooked plastering trowel many times before.
Now, if for some reason I can't spread a material, I of course will blame the tools because I'm an experienced craftsman and know how to piss, moan and whine better than the youngsters.
I’m kidding as I can spread all materials.

Howdy Joe, thanks for the bone. I have many more tips such as these but have limited the stuff we do for just applications in the past.
Jason told me to show this as I just finished fixing a bent trowel for my son Dan, who shouted out,
“Dad, this material sucks, it won’t spread right”
I thought to myself, “I said that same thing about 30 years ago.”

Howdy apache, I have to do this about every 3 months to a trowel, we sometimes drop them, if they hit the ground at a wrong angle or a rivet pulls it’s time to operate.

Evening Bloggs dude, excellent question , but you already answered it, I pull out my handy dandy margin trowel. The benefits of the 20X5 Swimming pool trowel outweighs the disadvantages of inner corners. keep in mind my pool trowel is not a complete half circle but instead a flat edge with just the edges curved. I used to use a saw with a metal blade to cut this edge but they make them, I order them online. About 60 bucks each.
    best wishes.

New subscriber (plaster)from Ireland. Love the videos. You guys have A lot of different products & finishes in the states compared to here in Ireland. Skimcoat here has 2/3hour setting time. In which you can throw on a good bit of plaster before it starts setting.

Trowel spines tend to be aluminium or magnesium (or alloys of these). Gentle persuasion with a hammer on the back of the spine has worked well for me...and quicker than your method. But like anything, there are many ways to get the same thing done.
Also, when beyond saving, those old trowel spines make camp fires quite memorable!

I was plastering a ceiling for a friend years ago. There were wires hanging down from the light and I asked if they were hot. Nope they are dead ! They "WHAM" sparks flew and took a notch out of my favorite plastering trowel. You know the one; you have it broken in . It took a lot of filing and plastering to get it finally worked out.

another trick I use is to have 6 or 8 tool mounting magnet strips running sideways along the bottom length of the trowel using the alloy or cast piece above as top position and lead casts (which I make from waste render or even sand and scrap lead on top either side of the spine this combined will fix almost any warp in a trowel if left for a day or so .
the lead mould principle also works for warped hawks to .
I had to learn these tricks to improvise as I quite like bon hawks Darby's pool trowels and so on and amazon uk don't really package bon products very well

i was wondering what product the USA use like the white one in this demo i see a lot of.
the reason i ask is because it is a dream of mine to move to the USA one day...i was hoping i could get by with the trade i have?
