Khus Khus Kheer | Gasagasa Payasam | Poppy Seeds Sweet Recipe for New Year

This easy recipe combines the goodness of fragrant khus khus (poppy seeds/gasagasa), creamy coconut, and crunchy almonds & sweet raisins.
    Ingredients
    Poppy Seeds - 3 to 4 tbsp
    Cashews - 10-15
    Almonds - 10-15
    Shredded Coconut 1 cup
    Jaggery 1.5 cup
    Cardamom Powder a pinch
    Ghee 2 tbsp
    Raisins and cashews for Garnishing.

    Method
    .
    Dry roast the poppy seeds, almonds and cashews on a low to medium flame.
    Once the poppy seeds begin popping, turn the stove off and transfer to a dry bowl immediately.
    Cool and grind it into a coarse powder.
    Add shredded coconut and grind it once again. Now add a quarter cup of water little by little and make a paste.
    Then, add jaggery to a kadai and add little water.
    Melt the jaggery completely and add the poppy seeds paste.
    Let it boil until the liquid thickens (5-7 minutes).
    Now add cardamom powder and turn the stove off.
    Saute the raisins and cashews in ghee until they turn golden brown.
    Add them to the kheer and serve hot!
