    The most beautiful class of battleships ever created. Absolute shame that Italia and Vittorio Veneto were ordered for scraping at the end of the war. Understandable, but still a shame

      @@ninj2798 Yes but by the first ever made radio guided air bomb of the Luftwaffe. The allied despite many attemps plus Sea and Air supremacy were never able to sink that masterpiece. Just a new technological weapon with new attacking strategies could do it . RIP to all those brave men of the Regia Marina

      The Italia (former Littorio), in the same fight, sustain a direct hit from another Fritz-X, and manage to survive, manouvering and fighting at 24 kts for all the day.
      The Vittorio Veneto, in the same day, manouvering at high speed and reacting with accurate AA fire, was able to evade amost 8 guided bombs

    It is the sad fate of mankind that such a beautiful steel-clad titan is betrayed by tyranny, in another time and place who knows,

      R.N., not R.M. before the italian warship's name. R.N. stands for Regia Nave (Royal Ship), so, for example R.N. Roma or R.N. Vittorio Veneto.

      Mainly radar mounted too late, crappy quality shells, scarcity of fuel, and too little air support, all coupled with poor tactics made by the high command, and poor strategy on the part of the government's top brass

    • @giudicedredd9195
      @giudicedredd9195 Před 9 měsíci +3

      @@alessandrocarbotti9241The quality of the shells had nothing to do with it, since the Italian shells were very good (much better than the German ones). And even the story of the lack of fuel is not true, and if you know the history you should know. The problem of the Regia Marina was that nest of traitors called Supermarina (if it wasn’t for Supermarina the Regia Marina would have managed to destroy the Royal Navy). But despite this the Regia Marina humiliated the Royal Navy

      Lack of fuel. All the available fuel had to be used to supply troops in N. Africa. By November 1942, only a single Italian cruisers squad was still really operative.
