  • Higher Education, Science and Innovation Minister, Dr. Blade Nzimande says he has hopes the country's first- nuclear medicine research facility will produce groundbreaking research in the fight against cancer and other priority diseases. Nzimande launched the Nuclear Medicine Research Infrastructure (NUMERI) at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria today. For reaction to the NUMERI launch, we are joined by Salome Meyer of the Cancer Alliance.

    I am a bit confused. My wife had thyroid cancer in the 1990's. Both diagnostic and therapeutic iodine isotopes were used in her treatment. So is this an extension and broadening of nuclear medicine? It can't be completely new.
