  • Oof! My bike just dies while I’m out running errands. I didn’t even really think about what it could be before trying to roll start it and ultimately trying to jump it. Glad I had a pal that could help me trailer it home. Time to get a new one ordered and clean up this mess. 😅

    Happened to my FZ8 couple days ago, simillar damage like you have on video.
    I decided to drain all oil out and take the oil pan down to clean all trash that got in.
    You dont want too know how much debris from glue that hold the magnets and the small debris of magnets themself were down there.
    Oil filter in oil pan was loaded with that stuff.
    I recommend to everyone to termly clean you oil pan and oil filter in the oil pan feom all the small stuff becaus sooner or later it will destroy your engine.
    Everyone who had luck that their rotor still didnt yet fail in FZ series, change it as soon as you can because when it does fail if you dont have the skill to fix it yourself, you are looking at the min. 1000€ expense....

      dude this happened to my FZ8 too. I replaced the rotor and stator but haven't got the magnets out yet... still runs great. Just started hearing a noise like there's sand in my engine yesterday. Praying it can be saved before it gets too bad

      @@calebhawkins3868 Definitly not noise that you want to hear from your engine....
      I aldo watched al this videos on youtube about changing magnets an stator after blowing up and nobody haven't opened oil pan and cleaned it and oil pump which is big mistake exactly becaus it can happen big damage in the engine after some time...Oil filter in oil pan gets filled with trash and your engine doesnt get the right oil presure and engine says kapput.
      Definitly stop riding open oil pan and clean oil filter and see if the problem is solved, but unfortunatly i think that damage is done already...
      Good luck 👍🏼

    Looks pretty clean. It's a good thing you didn't get it started and ride home. I think you caught it really early, like immediately. Hope your back up soon brother 👍

    I think this just happened on my bike, seemed pretty clean aswell.
    Did you also have a check engine light about 15 followed by a dead dashboard seconds before the bike died?

    I'm looking for a used FZ1 currently as I have had a Gen 1 and it was a GREAT bike. Although this seems like a pia at least it's an easy fix. I have found some bikes with a little over 10k miles and I believe in maintenance and more maintenance so I'm not skeeered about the problem, hell it's really good to know what it is in fact. Yamaha should have recalled it but they cheaped out. Not going to throw the baby out with the bath water though. I was about to pull the trigger on a 2024 katana at $14k New, but I've never bought a new bike in my life, so I think I'll back up and grab one with low miles at about half the price. They are very similar bikes, both tuned for torque low and mid range power. Both are pushing around 150 ponies to the crank and both look outstanding. I'm really torn on this though, that katana has many features I'd really love to have like slipper clutch and computer tuned performance and traction control. Anyway, thanks for the video glad it wasn't worse.

      There is a nice looking 2014 on Dallas/Ft Worth Craigslist right now for $5800. I’ve been watching it, he’s lowered the price from $7500 in the last week. Just a heads up!

      I have a 2012 fz1, white paint, yoshi triangular shaped pipe, yoshi fender eliminator kit, new tires, new chain, tinted wind screen. Just under 13000 miles. Half the miles are on the highway. Garage kept it's entire life. I don't ride that much so sometimes I want to sell it. I want a buyer that gets all my gear too. Jackets , pants, tank bag. Sabble bag, helmet, backpack. Total package $7500. If not I'll probably replace this stator rotor just because it bugs me that it's failure is a possibility. I've ridden it from Albuquerque to Denver to Houston to LA. The new bikes do have anti lock brakes and screens for a dash, but they are twice as much money. I always feel like I'll regret selling it for some reason.

    I'm wondering if you could help me where did you got you kit,
    and also do I need to drain de engine oil,
    thank you very much for your help.

      Hey Lou, sorry for the late reply. I grabbed mine off Partzilla.com and absolutely drain the oil and check for any metal in it visually and with a magnet to be sure. If you find any metal in the oil the pan will need to be dropped and internals thoroughly cleaned. That’ll depend on the severity of the rotor explosion. Mine was contained only in the rotor, so I was lucky. Just be sure you have no metal in that oil you drain, as that’ll cause major issues down the road if you simply pop a new rotor in and run it with metal chunks boppin around. Glad to help and again sorry for that late reply. 👍

    Do you have to take the rest of the case apart to make sure there's nothing down in there or do you have all the pieces? Inside looked clean for sure.

    • @CapricornKangaroo
      @CapricornKangaroo  Před 3 lety +1

      Since some disintegration of the magnets occurred, It’d probably be best to pull the pan and ensure everything is clean before getting it going again. Better safe than sorry.

    Same here brother last week
    , I’ll replace the stator soon but I’m I little nervous about possibles small pieces inside of engine. Did you have any problems? I’ll replace the oil just in case.

      @CapricornKangaroo  Před rokem

      If you have a lot of small pieces when you get into it, I highly highly recommend dropping the pan to clean out alllll that you can. I got lucky in having mine not totally shredded like many I’ve seen. Mine was all good afterwards 👍👍

    Is this a common problem?
    I picked up an 06 back in June with 2800 miles.
    So far I am at 4200 miles .
    Edit.Did a quick research.Seems as if its not if but when and no way to really know.
    Yamaha updated the part .
    Guess Ill be spending more money .
    Either that or making videos bad mouthing them until they send me the part for free

    • @CapricornKangaroo
      @CapricornKangaroo  Před 3 lety +2

      Unfortunately yes, the gen2 Fz1 has this as a common problem. With the 06 being the first of the gen2 we also have to keep an eye out for frame weld cracks, as that’s another known issue, but aside from that these bikes are tanks.
