Nice work on the windshield channel. The more of this I watch, the more I'm anxious to see the finished project. I'm not usually a fan of wagons, but how can you not like an odd ball classic like this one. 👍

I'd test the gas gauge right in the car. First hook a battery up in the car and then ground the wire that goes from the dash to the sending unit. If the gauge goes to full you know it works. Next ground the mounting flange of the sending unit, hook it's wire up to the car, and then move the arm up and down to see if the gas level changes on the gauge.

You've knock out the main concerns with this car pretty quickly. The average Joe would hem haw over them for a decade.

This is great. I recently got a 68 nomad custom that needs rust repair. Sadly I just found the frame rusted through in front of both rear tires.
Can't wait to see this thing done.

You should try Red Seal. I’ve restored a couple tractors that had leaky gas tanks, and I’ve Red Sealed the inside. Made for sealing gas tanks. Works the same way that you did. Slowly roll around and dump the rest out. Half way between honey and syrup consistency 🤷‍♂️

@@clunkersandclassics this is a long shot but.... The old Austin mini had a similar shaped fuel tank albeit a fair bit smaller, could it be worth looking at one of their sender units to see if it could be adapted to your needs? The benefit of that being that they're reasonably cheap at least.

Yes you can take the sending unit apart there at those clips and check you’ll see where the arm swings and touches this little piano wire that’s rolled around the board just see if that piano wire is messed or broken apart or see if the arm is even contacting the piano wire if not bend it enough so it can touch it and then see if it has a signal .

Great video. The screen surround is a work of art!
You did absolutely nothing wrong by fitting the car's correct, original VIN plate in the replacement dash panel. That VIN plate belongs with that car.
It's only an issue when people try to change a car's identity by swapping VIN plates onto different cars.

Just plug sender unit into car wiring and move float up and down see what happens. Think I'd change out all my rubber brake hoses. They cost penny's. And then you know they not collapsed inside. Making the brakes stick on. I think if I had good window in the yard I'd have altered the body to fit. Could have put a sun visor to mask it. Save a few dollars there. Matt black on the car looks good. What color you painting the car. .good video. Have a good week.

The 90 on your sending unit/fuel meter refers to90 ohms. It should be basically zero when it’s empty and somewhere near 90 ohms when it’s full.

I am not a car rebuilder but I am wondering why you did not cut a hole in the gas tank clean it out then weld it shut. (rinse it out with soapy water b4 cutting the hole) Also the 90 ohms means the sending unit reads from 0 to 90 ohms. set the meter to the lowest setting then you need to make good connections to the sending unit. as you move the float the reading should go from 0 to 90 ohms or from 90 to 0 ohms. I think you fixed it and didn't know it. Nice job on the window frame repair. I did not think it was repairable.

Would a sender unit from a pickup truck or a small rigid truck or semi work in the place of the original sender unit of the Nomad.?
Or is there a electronic variation on the sender unit that could work on the Nomad.?
The Nomad is coming on great and can not wait to see what colour she is going to be and if you will put rally stripes on the Nomad like you did with the other restorations.

This is my fourth try at sending you a message! If you haven't already found Weird Beard Channel you need to look him up, You both work with your brain and not your wallet! You need to see the roof of his Chrysler that he rebuilt after a vinyl top destroyed it by holding moisture in. The roof of the Chevelle is going to be rough from surface rust an hail dents He bought bed liner at Wal mart and rolled it on and used a little brush where the roller wouldn't work and it looked like a vinyl top! With you having a big rack on the roof it's going to get messed up with just paint on it and the same goes for the sides of the car from the body line down with stones being kicked up from the pavement and hitting the lower side panels If someone tries to mess with you over the riveting of the vin plate we got your back! I saw you go to the two door and say you were going to use top of the dash and windshield and wiper mount on the wagon to repair the rust! Don't let the trolls get to you you're not alone!

You know, hindsight is a beautiful thing, so, with that in mind, I feel compelled to tell you that it would've been 100 times faster and easier if you had cut the top of that windshield channel from any parts car/van/truck you have in your yard. They're curved anyways, so the fitment and adjustment would've been faster and easier. Great work nontheless, and after the winshield is installed nobody will ever see that part of the car again.

I don't think he's putting an Auto Zone elcheapo sun roof in it, He's going to cut an electric powered sun roof and tracks out of one of his parts cars and may have to cut a section of roof out of the parts car to put it in! I've changed the glass in several of them and there is a frame containing the glass or steel slide and all of the tracks and it bolts to the bottom side of the special roof that has the hole in it and mounts for the sunroof system to bolt to it!
