    1. What is eccentric Mechanism?
    Ans. The arrangements of mechanical parts used to obtain a reciprocating straight-line motion from rotating shaft. It serves the same purpose as a slider-crank mechanism and is particularly useful when the required stroke of the reciprocating motion is small in comparison with the dimension of the driving shaft.
    The eccentric shaft is an essential part of the fully variable valve lift control. The valve lift changes continuously form maximum to almost zero by rotating /pivoting the eccentric shaft by means of an electronic motor. This shaft has to be built as a precision needle bearing is used between the eccentric.
    2. How does an eccentric shaft work?
    Ans. Motion is transferred from the input eccentric shaft to planetary gear through an offset peg attached to disc which is mounted centrally on the eccentric shaft. Rotation of the input eccentric shaft imparts movements to the planetary gear which is forced to orbit around the inside of the annular gear.
    3. What is the use of eccentric?
    Ans. It is used most often in steam engines, and used to convert rotary in to linear reciprocating motion to drive a sliding valve or pump ram, to do so, as eccentric usually has a groove at its circumference closely fitted a circular collar ( eccentric strap).
    4. What is simple eccentric?
    Ans. A return crank fulfils the same function except that it can only work at the end of an axle or on the outside of a wheel whereas an eccentric can also be fitted to the body of the axle between the wheels.
