Funny story......I got lost in the woods one morning goin out hunting. Decided to quit thrashing around and just get up a tree in my climber stand. Clumb up a shagbark, only tree around substantial enough to get up in. Man, I struggled to get my climber over that bark! If that wasn't bad enough, along about 8 o'clock it got real windy. Them nuts started bouncin off my head like little missles. 😅 Ain't never made that mistake again.
Hickory, if the log is big enough, lends itself well to quarter sawing. That way the boards usually have both colors. It depends on what you are doing with the boards.
MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼……………………………………………I am NOT a “ Safety Sally” , but it freaks me out when y’all are pulling the pieces of bark away from the blade! LOL
I like that shag bark hickory, some pretty wood. Those shag bark hickory nuts taste really good but not much meat in each one. thank you for the music talent to kick things off.
Hickory is such tough sawing it doesn’t matter what kind of mill You have or type or size of blade just very hard to cut properly gotta be super sharp and just cut slower than most species or you get a bunch of thick and thin lumber. Good job guys
I recognized the 3rd tune as "I'll Fly Away" but didn't know the other 2. I've seen less than 10 shagbark hickorys but I like the tree and I like working with the lumber, although difficult. Have you achieved high school graduation? Thanks for the great videos.
That is a great example of the skill of these two. thanks.
Appreciate that. Thanks for watching
Nice serenade at the beginning, Andruw. That way we were able to see two types of sawing in one video lol.
Bill
lol that’s right. Thanks for watching
Wonderful. Thank you for your well done production today

Great video. The music as well. I swears that Diesel could play a tune with that hand saw. That hickory sure makes that motor moan.
lol. Thanks for watching
It takes an old old blade, back in the day the whole blade was tempered steel, today they just do an inch or so along the teeth
I enjoyed the music. I hope you will bring back those fellas every chance you get. Oh and I enjoyed the sawing!
Will do. Thanks for watching

I like working with the two colors of hickory. The shag barked is better than the smooth barked.
Thanks for watching
That makes some beautiful boards
It sure does. Thanks for watching
The shagbark I've sawn over this way, has had more heartwood, than those logs you milled in this vid. I don't mind milling it at all. SR
Yea we don’t mind it to bad thanks for watching

In southern Ontario we got smooth bark hickory. Shag bark hickory. And also bitternut hickory which I think is the better of the 3
Nice thanks for watching
The hickory sawdust shows up white on the pile.

Somebody there knows how to sharpen a saw. Ripped through that hickory like it was hot butter.
