- I replace the fluid in the transfer case on the 2014 VW Touareg. If you use Teflon tape on the plug to improve the seal, reduce the torque to less that 100 in lbs. Just make sure the plug does not go in farther that it was when you removed it.

Awsome work! Hardly wait for intake cleaning.
Awesome work, I have a 2016 TDI with 81k miles. The dealer said I didn't need to do it so this is my first one, I will do this right away.
Glad it helped. Dealers say this but they don't want the car to last 500k like it will if you take care of it. They want you to buy a new car.
I went to the dealership to buy the gear oil they said not to have it for sale, so i asked for the code number/part number/viscosity they said my transmission fluid is it longlife and no need to change and they denied to give me the information about the gear oil.(vw polo) lololol
You should be able to find the VW spec number and then a quality fluid manufacture will cross it for you.
My Volkswagen dealer is charging $130.00 for 1 liter of the transfer case fluid. Rock Auto is charging (the highest price) $20.00 per liter. That is a pretty big difference.
That is sick
Doing maintenance on my 13 TDI lux. your videos have been very helpful.
do you still have the Touareg?
Yes I do. I have some more work lined up for this year including battery replacement and fuel filter replacement. Video for both.
@@garysgarage2118 oh awesome, I just did both of those recently!
Battery is a tight fit that chewed my hands up in the cold.
Fuel filter was easy peasy
I wouldn’t use thread tape.. trust me.. did same thing and cracked my transfer case before it even reached 144 inch lbs.. any suggestions how to fix this? JB weld?
Can be tig welded or JB weld.
All fixed with original job weld, no leaks. I think the factory torque spec is too high to be honest.. Probably best to snug to 100 inch lbs and then adjust higher to maybe 120 inch lbs. Shouldn’t need more than 8-10 ft lbs to properly seal
@@davidplathe thanks for your post. I will put a note on my video to advise others 👍
