- The first broadcast of ITV Countdown 2000 with Trevor Mcdonald and John Suchet.
Unlike the BBC's programme, ITV produced short bulletins covering the landmark moments of the day, between other programmes.
It is both spelled and written "Kiri-BATI", but is PRONOUNCED "Kiri-BASS".
Twenty years ago today! Where has the time gone?!
I know its incredible how fast its gone by.
1:55 - John left the real part of the ITV News set and walked into their special virtual green screen area, which had been built into this new set for their March 1999 revamp.
1:33 - 9:55am 14 hrs to go for the new millennium!
5:09 - 2000 in Kiribati!
Ferdinand Magellan put the Philippines on a wrong date since March 16, 1521, after Mexico and the rest of Latin America became independent nations from Spain since 1810 to 1825. The Philippines moved the International Date Line by removing December 31, 1844 which decreed by Spanish Governor-General Narciso Claveria y Zaldua to align their calendar date within the rest of Asia to improve the tradings and economy of the said colonial territory during that time. 150 years after the Philippines switched, Kiribati did the same thing in 1994 by removing December 31 also to make it's all islands aligned within the same day with it's capital Tarawa.
Where can I download this from?
Such hope for the future, what a disappointment things have turned out to be.
How could it be spelled one way and written another ???!

At that time there were The last to ring in 2k
I recall some people paid around £20,000 to stay on millennium island so they could say they were the first to enter the new millennium 🎉 However after the event who would really know, care or be bothered. The only real winner was the owner of the Bank 🏦 account all the money was paid into, assuming it didn't crash due to the millennium bug 🐛 😉
