    Well waking up with a super stiff neck was NOT the start to the vlog I was expecting! It stunted my exploring abilities slightly but not entirely as Jérémy and I still managed to see some great things in Chiang Mai including the White Temple, Khunkorn waterfall, Singha Park and the blue temple. The town was pretty dead overall but we had a nice time nonetheless.

    How do you afford to travel? - I now earn a full time living through creating these CZcams videos, affiliate links, selling digital products and my clothing line. Is travelling solo safe? - I would argue the answer is almost always yes! As long as you use your common sense and you follow your own government's guidelines about travelling in that country. I have made several videos on backpacking safety on my channel.
    Do you have plans to settle down? Yes, I'm currently saving to purchase my first property in the UK and I'd love to have children one day. I doubt I'll ever live a completely 'conventional' lifestyle by society's standards though, as I often have my own preferred way of doing things.

    Another dose of Thailand nostalgia 😍 I only passed through Chiang Rai on the way to the Lao border but still remember the sun glaring off the White Temple (38 degrees and a sun-reflecting metal temple was not ideal for me as a Scot!) and all the odd figures... I don't remember any construction back in 2015 either so interested to see if it does visibly change over time 🤷🏻‍♀️ Hope your neck is on the mend!

    One of the most popular tourist destinations in all of Thailand, the Golden Triangle is renowned for it's natural beauty and phenomenal scenery. The mighty Ruak and Mekong Rivers converge in this region, and the riverbanks are lined with golden Buddha statues, shrines to the royal family, and massive sculptures.

    It’s just so beautiful to see you in your absolute happy place on this trip. You make me laugh in this one, the Regina George reference ahaha. Also chicken tendons are not uncommon! You’d be surprised how many actual restaurants I’ve found in NZ that serve it too, just whether you’d actually want to consume it is the real question.
    I hope your trip is going awesome. Makes me miss Thailand. X

    The place you called forest gump like is across the river from a elephant sanctuary. Often they swim across the river and eat the grass along the river bank where you were standing. The store & a man will sell bananas to you so you can feed elephants. There’s usually 2 elephants. It’s to bad that they were not there. God bless and happy safe travels

    I'm battling such a bad neck at the moment so I really feel for you Christianne. My GP has advised doing neck yoga so happy to pass this on in case its of any help. 🤷‍♀ The White Temple was STUNNING 😍 It's a shame about the secrecy surrounding the admission fees. I've visited some countries where they're very open and honest about prices for locals and prices for tourists, and they're printed on permanent and official looking boards (thinking Costa Rica, Jordan and the safari National Parks entry fees in Kenya and Tanzania) but I hate the feeling of wondering if you've been over charged or ripped off. Nice tip for going to the temple in the morning when the sun is shining onto it!! Keeping my fingers crossed for you extending your visas after the kerfuffle with getting the initial visa! 🤞

    A little advise from a competitive gymnast who has suffered neck and back injury and spent many weeks over many years not having much range of motion at all: ice, heat, ice, for about 30 minute intervals. You can repeat as many times as you would like, but always end on ice. The way i used to do this was come home from practice, ice for 30 min, take a hot shower and do a heating pad for 30 min ( you can use a bag full of rice that you microwave, an electric heating pad, hot stones, gel pouches you microwave or anything else that will hold warmth), and then go to bed with an ice pack on my neck.
    This cured me when nothing else would. Also I recommend using icey-hot patches. These work better than lotions because lotion rubs into the skin and the medicine evaporates in minutes, whereas a medicated pad of icey-hot keeps the medicine on your skin and prevents it from evaporating. I would also sleep with one of these on my neck (another pro tip, tape down the edges with medical tape if you have it. Medical tape is just tape that sticks to skin, its worth picking up from the pharmacy when you buy ice-hot. Very handy backpacker essential in my opinion. )
    Hope this helps someone!

    Hello Christianne! The southern style houses from the USA that you are talking about are called plantation houses because obviously they were former plantations usually for tobacco. They are one of the only pieces of architecture that Americans try to rescue instead of cut down. Sad but true!

    That "Khauk Swe" you have been eaten is not a northern Thai cuisine. That cuisine originally comes from the neighboring country "Burma".
    In Burma, every single corner of the streets in major Cities has that shop.
    Even the name is in the Burmese language "Khauk Swe". It means noodles, specifically "Yellow noodle".
    By the way, thank you so much for sharing. Have a lovely holiday!! 👍

    • @BackpackingBananas
      @BackpackingBananas  Před 2 lety +2

    • @tulippasta
      @tulippasta Před 2 lety

      You absolutely don't have to rent scooters, but figuring out alternative means of transportation will be more time-consuming, if not more expensive. I've done it both ways. Most cities in Thailand have rideshare apps, and songtaows travel fixed routes in towns. That said, a scooter may seem intimidating but it is very simple to learn how to ride. If you can ride a bicycle, you can ride a scooter. They aren't powerful like most motorbikes and they are easy to handle and don't use much petrol. Just do what the locals do, drive how they drive, park where they park etc.
