      @JayDay32 Před 7 dny +2

      @@rootofallevi umm, I don’t think you understand the game. Unlike you, I actually played at a fairly high level and was a guard. When you play guard you don’t really define yourself as a shooting guard or a point guard. You facilitate and do what is needed to win. Which is what a combo guard is. Steph does what is needed to win, he can pass and is a gifted scorer. It’s crazy you don’t understand the guard position as a self declared basketball person. The other reason Steph can be considered a combo guard is because his off ball movement and scoring off the ball. Pure point guards rarely score from the off ball because the facilitate completely with the ball. See CP3, Stockton and Nash. Even AI as a point guard scored on his own much more as opposed to off ball.

It's the same thing as Lebron got more assist than Jordan. When just was asked to run the PG position, he averaged over 10 assist a game ( look it up). Jordan was needed to score which resulted in 6 Championships. Curry is asked to shoot and not limit himself passing to basketball players that can't shoot. It's stupid.

Because he needed a player that’s better or at least his equal to come stack his team so that he could win 2 more easy titles? Because you like him better? Or because he scores more, which just plays right into Parker’s point that he is a point guard in size only. His ability to move without the ball and shoot should not diminish how good of a ball handler and passer he is or how he orchestrates his teams offense regardless of where he is on the court.

      @@TodTatney I see where this discrepancy comes from. Some people, like you mentioned, look at Steph as a PG because of his designated position. Some people, like me, look at it based on what his role is. Based on his role, he's a 2. Based on his "position" he's a 1. Was AI and is kyrie also a pg? They both had that pg label at times. Personally, I don't think so. All highly skilled guards at scoring. Not so much at being a distributor.
      I look at the point (let's forget about the limiter in saying "guard") as the guy setting up the offense. Getting everyone in position to run sets and plays. The QB of the basketball world. Magic, big o, and Stockton were the 3 best at that job.

    • @Lee65100
      @Lee65100 Před 7 dny

      @@SuperSonic_868Fair points. Here’s the discrepancy with these kinds of arguments. The role of a point guard is to create shots and opportunities for their teammates, which does not always show up in the form of assists. What makes Steph special is that he creates opportunities for his teammates both on and off the ball. For the majority of Steph’s career, besides the couple he played with KD, Steph’s second best scorer was Klay Thompson, a good catch and shoot player who barely created his own shot, and a great defensive player in Draymond Green who isn’t the best ball handler, and who isn’t known to be a scorer. Steph needed to draw attention away from these players to allow them to be their most impactful, so he had to split his time between on and off the ball.
      This can all be confirmed (and easily confirmed) by the win percentages and poor shooting and playmaking performances by both of these players without Steph. The sample size is large enough to concede this fact. I think Magic was a phenomenal distributor, but it’s frankly a travesty that most of us don’t see that passing to Byron Scott, Kareem, Worthy and more, was a privilege. And just because the passing we’re “showtime” and mystifying doesn’t make him better. However, I can concede that Steph is number 2, and he is number 1, although Steph is my number 1 PG. putting anyone else in the 2nd greatest PG spot over Steph would be absolute oversight, and a game costing him oversight at that if you were to build an all time team.

    @dreskee8422 Před 6 dny +1

    It's like this. Set some boundaries for yourself, basketball has never been ambiguous to the extent every player on every team is a tweener or a "hybrid". Every position has a standard operation. It's scientific sport fact at this point and every one knows the same thing. Stop shitting on the way the game was played in the 60's and 70's because it took that style of play to get to where the N.B.A. is today. The fact is, your point guard needs to or should average more assist than points in order to be considered a true point guard by position standards (Disclaimer: If your point guard can establish the roster as a scoring efficient talented roster from his/her passing opportunities.). If your point guard scores more points than passes for the assist even in easy situations then your point guard is a selfish player and not considered a true point guard, just a short shooting guard.😎

If you could understand what it actually means to be the general of your team, Curry has been just as effective as anyone who has played the position. Magic did it with passing. Curry does it with his gravity. He creates open shots for his teammates because a team has to pay so much attention to him.
      If we were ranking point guards strictly on how they pass the ball, Curry isn't even top 20. That's just not how the game is played today. You have to be able to score at that position which is why he is the 2nd best player ever to play that position. In the last 50 years, only 2 points not named Curry has won as their teams best player.

    A point to consider: Defense matters, and IMHO players need to be able to defend whatever position[s] or role[s] they're claiming. I.e. you can't claim to be a 5 if you constantly defend the 4 because of lack of size or if you just get cooked in the low post by big-men.
