Great reasons for signing this deal that ignorant Rob doesn't understand.
      1. If Brunson gets hurt this year then he doesn't get a max contract next year. Signing now gives him what is still a large guaranteed bag.
      2. It will help the Knicks roster for years and Jalen Brunson wants to compete for a championship.
      3. If this contract allows the knicks to win a ring then Brunson will get more sponsorship deals and offset a lot of that money. Also, the other deal for 25-26 has two extra years on it. Brunson will opt out after 3 years of this deal and is only giving up 37 mil over the next three years.
      4. Brunson will be able to opt out after 3 years of this deal and then sign a mega contract at an earlier time than if he signed a 5 year contract next year. He can now sign a 323 million dollar contract in 2028 because he will be in the league for 10 years at that time.

To be honest, the owners voted this in and they knew what they were doing. They knew eventually players would have to take less money so teams could build proper rosters. It doesn't save them money but brings them more revenue because you increase their odds of playing more games if you make it to the playoffs and go deep which only earns the owners money, not the players.

Also, the other deal for 25-26 has two extra years on it too, Brunson will opt out after 3 years of this deal and is only giving up 37 mil over the next three years.
      4. Brunson will be able to opt out after 3 years of this deal and then sign a mega contract at an earlier time than if he signed a 5 year contract next year. He can now sign a 323 million dollar contract in 2028 because he will be in the league for 10 years at that time.

If there we no salary cap, then I would completely agree with Rob's take. But there is a salary cap, and some players are taking less then they can command, in the hopes of giving the team flexibility to improve the team. Michael Jordan, until his last couple of years with the Bulls, took far less than he could've made on the open market. It's not like Brunson will be making the veterans minimum. He will still be a very wealthy man...even in New York. If these deals were bad, there's no way that the players association would allow a league wide depression of wages, whether the players voluntarily does it or not

CJ was the direct result of 3 Super Bowl wins, the team maintained if not got better without Hill. This notion that Mahomes taking less money didn't help is insane. You can't pay a WR 30mil, the trade pieces and future draft picks was worth it. The most important JB will have 2-3 more contracts in his career, there is more than enough time to make more money.
