- Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson have to be two of the interesting artists of our time. Not many people know they were friends and that they even released some songs together. Freddie who constantly had to be on the move and go out every night lived in stark contrast to Michael who chose to stay at home pretty much all the time when he wasn’t on tour. Both artists have been charitable and have both helped raise money to feed those suffering in the Ethiopian famine in the 1980’s. To assist this cause, Michael Jackson helped organize the song ‘We Are The World’ (1985) which he also added his vocals to along with other artists, while Freddie Mercury appeared at Live Aid in 1985.
The two musical titans spent time recording together in 1983, but it was reported that some of Jackson's quirky behaviour pushed Freddie over the edge before they could finish anything. Queen's manager, Jim Beach, has spoken about a memorable phone call where Freddie begged to put and end to recording. "Michael’s bringing his pet llama into the studio every day and I’m really not used to recording with a llama," Freddie said. "I’ve had enough and I’d like to get out." However, it has also been claimed that Jackson pulled the plug on a session when he caught Freddie snorting coke through a hundred-dollar bill.
The Queen and Michael Jackson duet, ‘There Must Be More To Life Than This’, was written by Mercury during sessions for Queen’s 1981 album, ‘Hot Space’. The band recorded a backing track, but the song was never completed. Mercury later visited Michael Jackson in Los Angeles, where Jackson’s vocals were recorded but the song remained uncompleted. Queen attempted to revive the track during sessions for 1984’s ‘The Works’, but again it was not finished and Mercury’s own version of the song surfaced on his debut solo album, 1985’s ‘Mr Bad Guy’. This new production of the ballad uses Queen’s original backing track and Mercury and Jackson’s vocals, and was produced by William Orbit.

The Llama feels like a friendly cover story Freddie was very gentlemanly about it all, I think Freddie was weirded out, or even that MJ made a pass at him or something, the way MJ looks at Freddie is pretty 'heart on the sleeve'. Anyway MJ seems to have felt slighted at least, that 'cocaine' story was bitchy and unnecessary even if it were true. And Freddie liked to party but was never an addict and was a serious professional. Dear Freddie, that slap on the thigh made me laugh, playful, didn't feel completely real, but kind of course.

Also Michael stopped hanging out with Freddie because he saw him snort cocaine through a$100 bill. But yes Michael did insist on bringing a llama into the recording studio and Freddie was not having it.
