initially on the lathe I was zeroing the part in the 4 jaw chuck. somewhat tedious but once its there I could be assured that the machining was going to be dead center...gotta love the matching beanie and gloves!! too funny! Hey, its till a bit cool in Vermont....or was... As for theCNC program, very conservative, tweaked the program later to speed it up, this was the first cut... for the threading, I actually had the right tool in my hand, just got a bit distracted...cut the threads in the next day and got it hooked up... Many of the parts are laser cut metal, I do a drawing, test cut if in MDF, then send the drawing off to have the part laser cut in steel

Bill is an amazing machinist!!! It’s so nice when you have all the cool milling machines, tools, etc. to get the job done.
I can’t wait to watch all of his progress in the near future, or I hope we all get to see this to the end???
Thank you much for sharing this build with us. Ron

Salute to high craftsmanship of builder. Thousands hours of labor and many many many $ for a special order already builted big steamer. For some you must choose betwen owning a house or the steamer.
Shay, Climax, Heisler are fantastic puller on worst possible trackage, but slower than butterfly under full steam.
Such a wonderful project, almost magic !
There is now one used for sale, 7.25" gage Lima Shay in Discover Live Steam, for 70 000 $ and it´s in Australia ! Add crating and shipping cost....

Nice. Work on steam. Love it. I am sure a lot of us steam guys wish we have equipment like that to work with. Maybe I can pay him to do some future machine work I need done! :)

You certainly can. I make it to his shop at least once a week to work on whatever needs it the most.

You can do more video's on the progress of this engine through the summer, and maybe the first test fire up would be awesome. :) Just my vote! :)
