Dear Slim, I wrote you but you still ain't calling
I left my pager, my cell, and my home phone at the bottom
I sent two letters back in autumn, you must not've got 'em, there probably was a problem at the post office or somethin'.
@@vitorcosta7676 sometimes I write addresses too sloppy when I jot em
But anyways, f@#k it, what's been up? Man, how's your daughter?
My girlfriend's pregnant too, I'm 'bout to be a father

The best part of it (which they don't mention is this clip) is that once the track was done. Dido heard it and contacted them to do a video for the song, she was that impressed.
That song is a fucking masterpiece
He was too high to realize it
dear Dido, i wrote you but you still ain’t calling
😂
And Stan became a pop culture
huh,it became a word bruh

Dido was awesome. I wonder why ppl dont remember her. She got me through uni.
I still bump some Dido from time to time, she has the voice of an angel
because of the manner she was marketed + the route she went for her music career, i think like most indie artists, she was mainly in for the music; not rlly caring for super commerical success
Yeah, all the songs from Thank you to Here with me, and White Flag. I actually just started on working on a melody and lyrics from Dido and Billie Eilish. It's going well!
(I should clarify that I'm not actually working for them, it's a personal song) although one day if everything goes to plan I do hope to meet them. Especially Dido
It's not that we don't remember her. It's that this song Stan was so huge that's what most people remember her for.
trust me ...people remember her !!
One of his best songs in my opinion. It shows the depth that hip-hop can have.
It’s his worst song in my opinion. Fack is where it’s at. Also Bezerk.

I swear, makes we wanna light a spliff and think everytime 😂
Absolute masterpiece: the beat, the lyrics, the video, the impact.
So nostalgic & ahead of its time in many ways
Wow. Legendary ish right here. Talk about painting pictures with poems. “Stan” was so monumental, that it found its way into dictionaries.
Wait what
@@shauncollins5863 On Guns and Roses, Jay-Z referring to himself said, “The Michelangelo of flow, I PAINT PICTURES WITH POEMS.” So I believe that the original commenter is saying the same thing about Eminem…that he too was a Michelangelo of flow because in the Stan song, Slim Shady used words to paint a picture, a very dark morbid picture, but a picture nonetheless. And I would have to agree because I remember seeing the Stan music video and thinking that it was probably the easiest music video to make ever because Eminem described the story of Stan with such vivid detail, that Em’s lyrics was pretty much a storyboard and script for a short movie or in this case a music video story.
@@shauncollins5863 Eminem is the one that coined the word 'stan'
@@rickyorton6634 you got way too deep with it. all bro was saying was the song was so influential that the term stan is now in dictionaries, which it is. lmao it wasn’t that deep bro

Eminem one of the most underrated producers of all time
Do you even realize the meaning of underrated?
@@itscalledbigshampoo He said he was an underrated producer not rapper. In this case yeah he defo is underrated as a producer.
He is an underrated producer, most people think Dre made every beat in his first few years not even joking
I'm not sure if it's in this interview but he also said that he kept listening picture on your wall and all he could think of were his idol posters on bedroom walls
It's not so bad.
Just imagine if he never sent that to Em we wouldn’t have had one of the best songs of all time. I’m thankful we got masterpieces like that🙏🏼
We still would’ve had the song.. just a different chorus
@@MJD925 no this wouldn’t be a song at all had that not happened imo
@@sweetiebaby808 he still had to come up with the lyrics. Idk lol I was just trying to give Eminem credit that he still would’ve wrote those lyrics, but what do I know 🤷♂️
@@MJD925 no I get it but I think that song came from him hearing that. I believe if it wasn’t that it would have turned out to be a different song. Still a masterpiece I’m sure but I think it’d be different. Just my opinion

And a legend was born
I can't imagine what dido thought when she first heard stan
Theres actually an interview w her about it. She was.impressed and said em was a great storyteller
She was so impressed she called him and offered to be in the music video. It was her idea to play Stans girlfriend in the video!
And history was made!!! Slim killed it, Dido is cold liteway
Dear slim that was a life changing track genius
Fun fact, Devon Sawa, who played Stan in the music video, was Alex in the first Final Destination movie. I went years not knowing that until a few days ago when I started binge watching the FD movies.
Wow, I didn't know that
I KNEW HE LOOKED FAMILIAR!!!!!
He also played Caspar. Dude has a long acting career.
Nice to know 👍🏽
Stan started a movement
Shout out to the 45 King. He produced Stan and Hov’s Hard Knock Life. Also Queen Latifah’s old stuff too.
Zane Lowe??? Damn!!! Time flies! This is awesome
bro fr I thought I was the only one in this comment section that recognised him lmao. Love his shows on Apple Music he’s such a good presenter and respects the art since he’s done it himself

I love Stan and Thank You equally
I heard Stan and It was that moment I suddenly wanted to be a white boy from Detroit
I’m a white boy from Detroit, if you want to be that, make sure you have a gun lol, you be gettin jumped way too often
Em wrote stan. Masterpiece
The funny part is that Dido didn't know about this song being made, she just heard it from a friend that she'd heard an Eminen's song with her "thank you" in it when she was at someone's office, Dido didnt believe it at first, months later she received a letter from Eminem team asking for permission to use her song.
She were on a tour, Em's camp send her the CD and a Thank You note. Pun intended 😁 She loves the track and her camp contacted Em's camp about further collab. That's why Dido is in the music video as Stan's pregnant gf.
Still might be the best Em song.
20 years later....Black Slim Shady.
I bet you em gon use a line in his diss where its like “you are a stan whose hand gotta go thru the stand that you called your self black slim shady cuz you wanna be just like me act like me and still got no where to be me, your diss was more like a mix of remixes and shootin your shot like those in the past did” lmao.

45king heard the track in an add for tea, which he waited for again to come in then recorded it on VHS. hence why it was only a short loop of her singing
It was an ad for the movie Sliding Doors
Thanks for mentioning 45 King!!! He's not a pharell or dj premiere in terms of number of hits, but when he drops something it sure is a cultural shift!
He also did hard knock life for Jay z
The Lyrics "I left my cell, my pager and my home phone at the bottom" really let's you know that the lyrics to the song were written in 2000. Now the lyrics would be something like " I left my cell, sent you a request on Facebook and I left my email address on the bottom."
Ha that’s late 2000s. Maybe “I left my IG, twitter and my Facebook at the bottom. I sent two tumblrs back in autumn, you must not have got them”

Em always taking a beat and making it 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yeah, a lot of stars definition of produced is different than ours. Funny to hear him say he hears the beat then produces it later. Dr. Dre behind him whistling 😗

The song that literally changed the dictionary forever
Dear slim,I wrote you but you still ain't calling
you can tell hes extremely appreciative he got to use it
pure genius
Only realised after watching the first Final destination again last week that the main dude from there is Stan in the video
I literally just watched it last week too and found that out lol. His name is Devon Sawa.
He plays human Casper in the Casper movie too
If you've never heard it before, I highly recommend checking out the track that eminem produced called _"don't you trust me?"_ by 2Pac featuring Dido (the singer who does the hook in _"Stan")._ It's 1 of my top 5 favorite Pac songs, ever.
Love a good song origin story
EMINEM MY BROTHER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER ✌🏿 🤎 💜 💜💜💚💚💚💜
Man these old clips remind me of how much a living legend Eminem is - even after his last few albums 😅
“Your biggest fan, this is stan.” Unforgettable
Literally listen to IT EVERYDAY to this day favorite ducking song of all time.
Bro really wrote an audible movie that rhymes so I guess a musical but whole idea behind the song is insane when you break it down.
Paul Rosenberg is a legend in his own right. Respect.
Him & Dido should definitely meet. The song wouldn't have been the same without her. They made magic together.
You realise she's in the video for the song. And they've performed it together multiple times
they literally did the music video together
Dude is that young Zane Lowe?
Wasn't no use in selling that beat to anyone else.... Man stan is an important song to hip-hop fr nobody else could have did what he did on that beat ❤❤🎉
the beefs gone cold
I really like hearing how Eminem’s makes music.
Another hot spot
That's very interesting Eminem how you made Stan 😃🥰💙💙💙
Imagine the dimension where em lost that fight for the beat...a world with no Stan....what would they call superfans?
Dido's voice is so classical, no wonder em gone through a visit for Her, such an amazing women
Legend has it Snoop Dogg is still salty about Em getting that song from Dido 😂
The joint is timeless 👌
Really interesting hearing behind the scenes of songs on how they came together.
I knew Stan before I knew Didi song
Didos brother was also in a band called massive attack! So I think that’s how her demos reached people like Eminem!
Massive attack produced some great music in the 90s and well respected
Young Zane Lowe and Eminem 🥺 both legends in their field.
You are amazing slim
Real question

G.O.A.T
I always thought Dre woke up during the night to get something to drink and heard the song playing on the t.v. and instantly wanted that beat
Funny story, after the album dropped, I went to the record store w/ my girlfriend at the time, bought it and I also bought her some cd she picked out which ended up being Dido, slid MM lp in the cd player b4 driving off, when it got to Stan, which I hadn’t even heard yet, she was like omg, this is from the cd I picked out!! 😆🤣
❤❤❤ dido was lit the singer yup 💯😛🔥 blessings
Dido is a fuckin legend, eternal banger
I love that tune Marshall. You sound awesome together ❤️
Remember what he said. "I co-produced it." Alot of people don't realise he either worked together with producers or even created alot of his and other artists beats. Look it up, you'll be surprised what you'll find.
💯💯💯 he produces some of my all time favorite songs and hype songs from him and other artists. Everyone is always WAY too quick to say “Dre does all his hit records” 🤦♂️🤦♂️ Em is too quiet and humble to tell everyone he’s dope af at production
Great Song

Best rapper he is my favorite and I love @Eminem
One of the greatest story telling in a song! 🔥
Always been Eminem fan……..even when the haters were hate’n!

Big up dido and em 😢
When that beat drops in Stan... 👌😚👌
It is a good song.
it makes sense, because the chorus and the song don't go along. But it's a very good song. My fav
I love Marshall and his music❤
And then she named her son Stanley.
He was so much better at interviews back then compared to now
He was confident, calm and articulate back then thanks to drugs , alot of drugs. He's now sober and full of anxiety no doubt

Fun fact "Stan" is part 2 to the song "kim"
In the song "Stan" Stan in the car is re-enacting the events of the song "kim" but explicitly stats "but I didn't cut her throat" which was the only change.
