Tom Petty is so iconic his music is has become part of the background of modern music. Nothing flashy, just clean, perfectly arranged, catchy tunes. The way he uses space and harmonies to focus the listener’s attention or round out the sound is subtle genius. A lot of the work in his songs is in the set up - getting the right tone and the right instruments at the right time. His work with producer Jeff Lynne (of ELO and The Traveling Wilburries) is text book stuff.
That’s the beauty of song writers like Tom.....SUPER simple to figure out and play, but SUPER HARD to write such simple , beautiful melodies that haven’t ever been written before...that’s the best part about ppl like Tom, it’s such a gift he had....I’m 45 yo...god, I love him...good reaction, I’m now subbed:)
The complexities are incredible yet Tom Petty crafts it so superbly that it sounds melodically simple. Pure genius!
Not enough people appreciate minimalism. Something is not perfect when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to remove....or something like that. A real great guitar player I have always loved is Brian May. His solos feel full and complete even though they are not filled to the brim with tons of extra bend and pulls.

The Album this song is from Wildflowers is loaded with great songs. My favorite lesser known Petty song Wake Up Time is from the same album.

I looked it up one time. She's an actress named Raven Snow. Her IMDB didn't have much but it said she was in one of the episodes of the Red Shoe Diaries that was on Showtime a number of years back.
