  • Bruce Lee spent four and a half years training in Wing Chun Kung Fu under the watchful eye of Grandmaster Yip Man and seniors William Cheung and Wong Shun Leung. His only formal period of study that gave him the necessary foundation for his co ordination, sensitivity, reflexes and timing, to which he could further develop his speed, power non telegraphic movement and agility.
    Dom Békés: How much of the Wing Chun syllabus did Bruce Lee learn?
    William Cheung: Bruce Lee, Four and a half years he train in Wing Chun. He is not for one to learn a lot but everything he learned he became a master of it.
    Dom Békés: What would you train together in Wing Chun? What would the sessions comprise of?
    William Cheung: Basically, say we were training a technique, we would take a technique to break it down to minute sections to test all the different variations and also trying to understand how the technique work and what is the main principle and whats the timing.

    Yeah, hes honest, bruce lee was incredible, so is william cheung, they both received similar base training in the very early moment, then they took different path, they 2 different individual also, n bruce lee died young while he was more or less at his peak, so somehow in people memory he'll never age, that 1 thing they dont have in common, when u stay alive u end up getting old, n no amount of experience will bring u back to ur 20 s. Im sure Mr cheung never meant to disrespect Mr lee, its just people think bruce lee was the no1 student of yip man, n even though he is a untouchable legend in the eye of the public, he didnt spent that much time with him. Thats how i see it even though im not a expert, just a opinion, n theres as much of em as people on the planet

    The classical man is just a bundle of routine,ideas and tradition.When he acts ,he is translating every moments in terms of the old. I don't believe in system, nor in method. And without system, without method, what's to teach?
    Liberate yourself from all kind of thoughts, be empty, be like water! To liberate is to see, and then you'll know.Fight when you have to ,emotional content is what is needed.

    the real question should be towards William.. . how long did YOU train directly under yipman??.. Bruce really learned under Wong shun leung..not so much from William Cheung

    • @christopherespinal4620
      @christopherespinal4620 Před 7 lety +1

      You really have no idea what your talking about, do you He learn from grandmaster Chu Shong-Tin as well as under Yip Man just like Bruce Lee was under Wong Shun Leung in his schools so his Wing Chun kuen is fake? Yip man have teach everyone different techniques and methods to different people because Yip Man lineage itself wasn't pure. The size of his students, the weight and body anatomy ( students genetics play a roll on the way he teaches them and different methods). There is no such thing as a pure lineage of wing chun anymore since the 16th century and before. yip man learn from 6 different teachers everyone already knows by now as well as more that some didn't, since he began learning( 8 years of age) ( Teachers listed as following) Chan Wah-shun, Leung's Bik, Yuen Kay Shan two of his younger brothers, Yiu Choi, Pan Nam, his friend and partner Jiu Wan( both exchanged ideas and methods to each other to improve there techniques and skills. Yip man became a teacher himself and was coming together with other grandmasters (like weng chun Tang Yik )forming clubs to compare learn from another. Wing Chun the art is traditional by no means is anything close to what it use to be back in the Ming and Qin Dynasty. Wing chun lineage is not pure should do your research before saying anything my nigga...

      So, my Sifu studied with Ted Wong, Jesse Glover, Joe Lewis, Howard Williams and a Sifu in the William Cheung lineage. I cannot stand those who bad talk Cheung, why? Because it is ALWAYS a Wing Tsun guy. Leung Ting has less authenticity being with Yip Man than Cheung does you fool. Secondly, Leung Tings seniors were Wong Shun Leung and Tin. Yet, Leung Ting is such an asshole he had Tassos beat up on an old man. Look at your forms in your own system, your so "soft" chi sao and thousands of pre rehearsed drills. It is actually not a fighting true style, it is a feel tough gimmick Leung Ting designed brilliantly with Kernspect. Don't just be another wing tsun asshole, open your damn mind some.

      I can't believe you came here lol talking shit about something you bring yourself into? I just don't understand why people on tube do that lol Not even from Main Land where all the fighting between lineages began but you in the west can speak for it? Do you even know how many Sifu that have token credit for training Lee after his death, boy the list gose on from sifu that aren't even from Yip's lineage. ( one thing is clear that Cheung did indeed share classes and train with Lee as well as train him, Wong said it himself that the man was a big part of Lee life I China, Lee's daughter even held a big peace of Cheung shard within Bruce lee museum.) My dude it dose take much to go to a google search bar and look it up( I went to main land china a lot of different lineages speak highly of cheung, the very sameones that are talking shit lol why butt hurt?

    I read elsewhere that bruce learnt a lot of martial sophistication from his father's kung fu brother_fook yeung_ who worked in the red junk opera. Fook honed his art over many years exposure to over 100 different kf styles. I believe there is a red junk wing chun variation. I would guess this where bruce would have mixed and matched many elements of other methods to build his jkd. Cheers all.

    I have great respect for GM Cheung but the Late Bruce Lee never Learned the Complete Modified wing chun and his student Dan Inosanto don't and didn't learned chum Kil . All The students from the late Lee don't teach a complete wing chun only the first form .

    • @joelhusbands3838

      Pastor Edgar Vidro lee no doubt trained very hard at what he knew and probably had a Natural talent for martial arts as some people do. But according to the facts stated he didn't train for very long in wing Chun. He later went on to have that closed door match with wong jack man of which different people who were there gave different accounts of. The funny thing is that though he was a practitioner of wing Chun who rightly should have had good hand conditioning after four and a half years, he claimed to have gotten his hands swollen after pummeling wong jack man. Then he went on preaching that the limitations of wing Chun and other traditional styles and the importance of his new jeet June do philosophy. In my experience rethinking and reforming your systemof fighting doesn't come after a 3 minute victory but a defeat.
