I’ve been studying this very thing (amateur studying). I believe that every time the LORD spoke face to face with someone in the OT, he did so through the person of the Son. Jesus states that no one has seen the father. The LORD told Moses that he couldn’t see his face, only his back. To me this means that the conversations with Adam, Abraham, and others in which the LORD was in person had to be Jesus.
