I discovered Billy only 2 weeks ago. Every day I keep finding more of his music. Most orginal amazing musician I have seen in many! Years! This is coming from someone who spent many years with music. From A-Z.

MOLLY TUTTLE??!! I know this was recorded in 2016, but I haven't seen Molly around in forever! Between her Billy, Sierra, Lindsey, and the rest, the only one missing now is AJ Lee. She's got an amazing voice! Great job y'all!!😄👍👍
When I was ten (early '60s) my guitar teacher told me to take some Bluegrass lessons from someone in the business. I think he was right. Thanks Mr. Schmit. Oh his son was Timothy B . . .
You might want to differentiate between the two. Seems you've not been paying much attention to the bluegrass, non-industrial, side of things. Very much in good hands for a long time, and the foreseeable. Note the education programs at Berklee and ETSU among others. Check out some of the folks at Augusta Heritage Center festival, at Grey Fox, FreshGrass, etc., etc. Dunno about the industrial boys.

I watched this because of the name Billy Strings was on it. To start I’m watching him, and out of the corner of my eye I detect the right wrist movement of a guitarist. I thought that has to be Molly a Tuttle. I look right and there she is. My god, that’s how indoctrinated I have become. A few more seconds I realize Sierra is up there too. All the Usual Suspects. I’m getting old, but the music has, if anything has improved. Looking through the other comments: these videos are embarrassing in one respect: the sound guy needs to realize Billy “pushes” off the other soloists. He can hear them. Maybe the live audience can as well (although I doubt it). The viewers cannot. This is like eavesdropping a phone conversation and only getting half of it. Have you ever heard of “call and response”? Learn your part of any show. Do a sound check, learn your craft. You can apologize to Molly & Sierra later.
He took the time to learn how to pick fast... Unlike others like ME myself.... Feel ashamed when I watch him. Can't play and build guitars at the same time was my excuse... I will play more guitar from now on!!!
It is certainly a G7 sound. I think he's taking his finger off the A string to hit the 2nd fret on the D string to lead into the 3rd fret which is the 7th.

Or in D: D C G DAD The C is the flat seven of the D and transitions into the 4 chord of D which is G. Then 151 to finish. So it's a 174 modulation And a 151 perfect cadence.

There a fair amount of bluegrass in California. The Tuttles are from the Grass Valley area, for example.
