@@BBWahoo I would've loved Game Boy Donkey Kong to make a return. I know people keep saying that's meant to be Cranky Kong, but Cranky's own bias towards modern game development, and the fact the Game Boy version was released just a few months prior to Donkey Kong Country (and how much deviation there was between the Arcade Game and the Game Boy game) makes me believe that's not the case. I can believe Cranky can be the OG DK, but not the same DK presented in the Game Boy game.

As a kid, I thought this gag was genius, and it still is obviously I also love the promo art accurate sprites and this wouldn't technically be the first time Mel Blanc's voice was used for Mario huh 👀
Mario was originally based off Popeye, I feel like Bug’s voice actually fits him. Also, the fact they had a cartoon like this with the same characters are amazing.
To think how different the gaming world would be, if Popeye's rights holders had given the license to Nintendo for this game. We wouldn't have a Mario at all.
The fact that Mario was voiced by the same actor as bugs bunny 2 times makes this amazing! (In the beta of Mario 64, and some obscure show that Mario first aired on, ironically it was before Super Mario Bros was even made and his only game was Donkey Kong)
On the Saturday Supercade, Mario was voiced by Peter Cullen, most famous for voicing Optimus Prime, Eeyore, and to a lesser extent Monterey Jack. Whoever told you it was Mel Blanc lied... except about the Mario 64 beta, that part's true.
@@CrazyChris622 Mario and DK didn't get separate games till later though. Mario later got "Mario Brothers" in 1983 (2 years after DK) and DK went without Mario in 1984's "Donkey Kong 3," which had a new hero Stanley instead.
Donkey Kong was made because Miyamoto wanted to make another game about Popeye but couldn't get the rights to it so he made up some original characters that have since surpassed them in popularity. Same story for Mega Man and Astro Boy.
This kind of stuff is what Dorkly wishes it was back in the day. A funny concept with a punchline that isn’t shallow and one noted, and good animation that isn’t a low effort tracing and tweening of sprites
Not defending Dorkly or undermining Pip, because the animation is gorgeous and simple, but it is easier when the joke is older than practically anyone watching it
Jumpman and Mario are the same character basically. Mel Blanc was alive when Mario was first voiced by Peter Cullen in a Donkey Kong cartoon. He was actually voicing Heathcliff and some Looney Tune clipshow specials at the time too, so he was still voice acting in his old age. His last voice acting gig was the 1990 Jetsons Movie that came out a year after his death in 1989, (he finished all his lines for Mr. Spacely) and the movie is dedicated to him.
@@Princess_Hoshi In hindsight, it's pretty awesome that Charles Martinet tried to replicate all those stock Mel yelps and convert them into one distinct voice.

This is some amazing animation by the way, but that should go without saying. :)
The sprites for Jumpman and DK look really nice and accurate to the boxart. Would love to see your take on Pauline in a similar style (I don't think I've seen anyone draw her with the puffy blonde hair she has on the boxart).
Fun fact, when Super Mario 64 was previewed at game shows a year or so before release, before having Charles Martinet voice him, they used stock sound effects of Mel Blanc's voice for Mario in it. I think there's video somewhere of Mario falling with a Yosemite Sam style scream when he fell.
Dammit, now I need a rubber hose animated toon series about Jumpman having adventures in a 1930s styled NYC. A mix of Popeye, Bugs Bunny, and Marx Brothers humor. Mario going old-timey fisticuffs against a Bluto-esque Bowser. Classic Nintendo tunes done in Merrie Melodies style. God, it'd be wonderful.
oh dear, I've made a grave error. it's appears my opponent was able to easily think of a way around crossing the rope, therefore making my threat to cut it null and void.
Scary thing about this is DK is that strong in canon. Just look at what he dose in Returns and Tropical Freeze. Also great job, stuff like this is so beautiful!
the music makes this so much better btw i have an idea for a good ending, either mario does his classic jump pose as he punches donkey kong, or he breaks the laws of physics by cutting a piece of the rope and creating a hammer out of one of the posts keeping it connected
The 8-bit sprites of Jumpman and Donkey Kong are accurate to their cover art counterpart and it feels like an actual cutscene to the game.
