Your laughter at the ending solo was pure evidence that their music as aggressive as it is doesn't leave a single ounce of negative energy in your body. This is the effect I seek and find whenever I feel I have something my soul needs to be cleansed from. I will be with you on this journey
This album is pure energy, metallica in their early phase was brutal
The four horseman is a MASTERPIECE 🤘🏻🖤
Yeah because it wasn't written by Metallica
@Kameron Waddell 😂 u try so hard
@@isopropyltoxicity
Except the lyrics were and so was the idea to slow it down enough that the music alone tells the story. Although Mechanix is more in line with the original song it lacks the heaviness, awesome transitions that few bands have been able to master and Cliff Burton. What I’m trying to say is Mustaine’s version doesn’t come close to the revised masterpiece Metallica delivered.
@@isopropyltoxicity bridge and solo after that is best part of The Four Horsemen, and it is not in Mechanix
The four horseman is a must play live at every concert to this day. It’s the four horseman of the apocalypse from the Bible.
They don't usually play it though
@@JoaoPedro-hq7bs I’ve seen them about 8 times over the years and they always played it. Maybe it depends where they’re playing like if they’re playing in an area where they know there’s a lot of old school folks. Lol
@@susanconstable2113 Ah, that makes sense, I was paying attention to the European Tour setlists because I was going to a show, and I guess they didn't want to play less known songs to a crowd that doesn't get to see them that often
Cliff Burton’s driving bass pushes them to the next level. As a So Cal punk in ‘83, we all knew this was a new sound, no one had heard before. They called it Speed Metal back then, and I saw them many times, at Long Beach Arena. Their first three albums are their best, IMO. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse is a biblical reference.
the journey begins friend, be prepared. This album is very pure, raw, but it's also epic. I hope you can appreciate it. there are many songs in his repertoire that I can't wait to see you react to. I hope this humble metallica fan will do it with you. see u in next one🤘😎🤘
Very well written 👏 metallica rules
i can't wait to follow you through this journey. There are so many good metallica songs that people skip or miss cause they only take the most popular ones from every album. I'm so excited to hear your thoughts on their albums. Really hope that we can see all of them. Keep up the great work love your reactions and analysis
My first thoughts and I've only listened to hit the lights only just found the channel 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 metalllicaaaaaaaaaa
Obviously I've heard metallica every day for the last 19 years of my life I mean on this channel 🤣🤣🤣
@@justicedone3929 sweet. metallica is my absolute favorite band. there music have helped me through some hard Times. I found this channel maybe a month or tow ago. Really fell in love with it. It's such penguin reactions and the analysis man there to die for. I love seeing new people find out about metallica and to hear how they think and see the songs. Because you can really learn to se songs in a new way and that's so awesome.
When I was doing my military service, my platoon consited of four infantery tanks that we named after the four horsemen. I was the shooter in "Pestalence"! Good times!
The Four Horseman is one of my favorite tracks of all time. The tempo changes and solos are epic!!! Enjoy your Metallica journey!! I certainly have enjoyed them all my life.
The "No Life Til Leather" and "Metal MAdness tonight" line in Hit The Lights are references to their first demo and the compilation album they were first featured in (Before they were really a band)
Actually the lyrics came before the demo
It’s The Legend Kirk Hammett playing the solos 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘…..imagine when we heard this in ‘83…..we looked at eachother in disbelief pinching ourselves 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘…..and then I learned that a fellow countryman ( a dane) was crushing the drums 🤘🤘🤘….they changed so much in the music business…best band ever
Kirk Hammet is the weakest link in Metallica. His solos are forgettable
@@thesnoyls They're so forgettable that he's worth $200 million..lol
@@thesnoyls Stay mad 😤😤😤
Hit the lights solo sounds more like Mustaine to me. Probably composed by him and played by Kirk when he replaced him
@@thesnoyls solos forgettable? that's a first. I bet all your favorite metal guitar players took a thing or two from Kirk 😂
Incredible, exactly, master piece, and for me, the BEST ÁLBUM IN THE HISTORY OF MUSIC
Listen to Mechanix by Megadeth which was the four horseman in its infancy written by Dave Mustaine, totally different vibe and song structure so I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on each track
It always sounds like galloping of horses to me which is even more brilliant if james wrote the lyrics on top of the music
That guitar sound/technique is called a gallop precisely because it sounds like horses running.
The four horsemen is a reference to the 4 horsemen on the apocalypse out of the Bible. It has a dual meaning in this song as Metallica often refer to themselves as the four horsemen.
You’re the best reviewer/reactions of metal on CZcams, hands down. 🙌🏽
“The Four Horsemen” is a biblical reference from the Book Of Revelations, i.e., The Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse. Hetfield’s lyrics often include such references, due to his being raised by a Pentecostal mother.
Hell yeah! Glad you'r getting to hear this great album.
This is why Metallica is at the top of the heap ,when it comes to record sales ,despite the haters in present days you cannot deny what they've done for metal music
The four horsemen is my favourite track of them. Never get tired of it. Bought even a shirt of it.
This WAS the first thrash song on the first thrash album. Took the power of punk and prolonged it. Whole album is fire! Whiplash was their signature song for a couple of decades... I was 12... changed everything.
Some would push back on that. Thrash historians note that New Jersey's Overkill came out with the first actual thrash demo before Metallica. However, Metallica definitely caught success first and so history remembers them as thrash pioneers. But it's difficult to ignore that the New York & New Jersey thrash sound from Overkill & Anthrax was already a thing before Metallica made Kill 'Em All.
I understand what you are saying by the churning of machines, but go back and listen to it again and think of the hoof beats of horses. It was brilliant for them to incorporate the sounds of the horses into the music!!!
Most people that do reaction videos just sit there and bob their head. But not you, I really appreciate the analysis you do while listening to the songs. It's more of a reaction & review which is quite rare on CZcams these days. This is 100% my favourite Metallica Album, it never gets boring because the riffs constantly change. And when the riffs that were played earlier in the songs come back it's more of a nice feeling than a bored feeling because of the constant change. Earned a sub
Hit the Lights is the first track on the album and also the first track James & Lars ever wrote at 18. So they were writing about fans they didn't have... yet. But when this song was released on a metal compilation album called Metal Massacre, their song was at the end, the band's name was misspelled, and it blew up the whole thing. The rest is history.
Hahahaha.... that's where I first heard them!

Hi, Great video reaction! ! I am 51yrs old and was able to see 8 times live and one of the 8 times was at the 91' Day on the Green @Oakland Stadium, Oakland, CA during my active duty military service
Best Metallica album of all time.
A real thrash metal.
Master ? 👌🏻🤣
I prefer the word gallop to churning. Great stuff regardless
The for horsemen of the apocalypse is what this is about
"Churning". That's a description I use often and don't get much reciprocation from, so I love that you are feeling that. It sounds like machinery. It IS metallic, and I absolutely love it.
Idk if anyone has mentioned it but James does some of the smaller solos but they have a lead guitarist that does the main solos. Dave Mustaine ( now the vocalist for Megadeth) was originally the lead guitarist for Metallica before being fired and replaced by Kirk Hammett (a story for a different day)
Love the dark side shirt listen to Metallica. Awesome.
That speaks volumes
I can't wait for you to react to Ride the lightning, my personal favorite
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in Revelation
They were such BABIES when they made this album. 👶🏻👶🏻👶🏻👶🏻 I just want to pinch their little cheeks.
That "churning" is galloping horses man. ;)
I gave you a thumb up more for the t-shirt, than for the album choice :D
Tour analysis is usually spot on but missed the mark this time. Its about the four horsemen of the apocalypse and the "cyborg " riff was the horses galloping!
its just so amazing these 2 songs are from the same band i mean common second track is like just another level!!!!
Whenever I'm feeling sluggish at work I just put this album on and suddenly I'm feeling the affects of amphetamines
Dude, this is a Dave Mustaine song from his old bamd Panic. It was called The Mechanix, about sex in a gas station bathroom. James rewrote thr lyrics to a biblical perspective.
It's the horses that you are hearing. Imagine four horses riding together with the gallops of the guitars. That's what you're hearing.
Stomping of horse hooves is what ya hear in the beat!
4 horsemen is from the Bible, Revelations.
Yep, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: the white horse represents conquest through pestilence: the second horse is red and represents war; the third horse is black and signifies famine; the fourth horse is pale and carries death upon it. Revelations has some real vivid and scary imagery. We could look around and see the four horsemen riding now upon earth.
17:50 James is the singer and rithm guitar, Kirk Hammett is the lead although this solo was supposedly written by Dave Mustane of MegadetH it's Kirk playing all of the lovely solol fills here : )
Four Horsemen is the first song I heard by the band.
I was sold.
You can thank Dave Mustaine for the four horsemen because we all know he did write that song.
Sort of.
Ssshhhh
Yea wrote most of it not all of it
Sure a cyborg if it was called famine war pestilence and death. That churning is sounds of 16 hooves running across the ground
Four Horsemen is about the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse
The origins of metal legends

This song references the Four Horseman of The Apocalypse. It's a Biblical tale
Brilliant! If theres any Metallica album that should be heard as a whole its Kill Em All. To me it sounds like one big thrash metal smorgasbord.
Too bad you didn’t do the four horsemen and mechanix (megadeth) together. Would’ve loved your thoughts.
I'm not sure where you get the cyborg imagery from. It's literally about the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Best debut album ever!
What you think sounds like a machine, I think it sounds like the sounds of horse hooves. It's about the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Metallica is just so darn good! Gives me a dopamine hit!
definetly do ride the lightning when your done with kill em all
I always feel like I am on a mechanical horse during Four Horsemen. Seriously. Different speeds... Running, galloping, riding a horse...
They actually mimic the sound of horses galloping.
One thing you have to put in perspective is that the opening of "Hit the lights" is the beginning of thrash metal. This record started the subgenre "thrash metal"
There was no top record label that would touch Metallica until they released a slow song. Metallica had their finger on the pulse of the metal fans and then took their show to Europe in 1984. The underworld and small labels helped them distribute because no record stations in the states would play their songs. 1983, 1984, 1985, and 1986 were their best years and the death of Cliff Burton took them in a new direction.
Yeah…like drinking 10 cups of coffee. Holy Sh*t!
the "Four Horsemen" is The Four Horsemen Of Apocalypse.
As a kid my Mum told me that she never trusts a musician that does not sweat - most likely referring to Joe Cocker - I took it a step further and only listen to bands that make me sweat - Metallica. Great reaction. I think there are a lot of similarities between hip-hop and thrash metal.
@@pmbbmp haha l was implying that - l doubt it was just the singing that made Joe Cocker sweat.
The older the Metallica the better the Metallica!!! ❤
Yes! Do master of puppets after
Dave Mustaine wrote most of the guitar parts for Four Horseman. Even the skynyrd rip-off part (as a joke).
That switch up that you love, was a happy accident, as Bob Ross would say. Dave Mustaine was in the band at the time, and they were getting kind of frustrated or burnt out writing the song, and Dave just randomly started playing Sweet Home Alabama. And they decided to keep it in there.
In all actuality, the idea came from both Cliff & Dave as they were riding in the car listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd (Sweet Home Alabama).
PLEASE react to "one" by metallica, imo one of their best, an amazing song if you haven't heard it already.
Yeah, this one was always a bit too high energy for me. Feels like I'm having a panic attack.
It’s about The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, not cyborgs.
Kirk Hammett is on Lead Guitar doing the solos :)
James Hetfield is on Lead Vocals & Rhythm Guitar but it sort of acts as a second Lead when they wanna go insane, he more than capable but the solo solos are Hammett.
A lot of these tracks were also written by Dave Mustaine who was Lead Guitarist before Hammett.
Dave was part of 4 songs.
@@sadsadasdsadasdsadas Arguably the 4 best songs on the record but not only that.....thats a lot of songs for a guy you kicked out of the band.
@@oliverjackson5070 Metal militia is probably the weakest song on the album, it's just pure thrash. The rest of the songs have Metallica in them, something that makes them different than just your typical thrash song. Jump in the fire is nothing special, I mean, it's a great song, but for being a Metallica song.
I'd say the best songs on the album are Four Horsemen, No remorse and maybe Seek & Destroy. Now Dave was part of one of those songs, obviously this is dependent on your taste in a way, but.. Dave's part in Metallica has been way exaggerated throughout the years.
@@oliverjackson5070 He helped write 4 songs in the band, James had most contribution to the album
To start with Metallica you have to get familiar with Megadeth as well. Dave Mustaine wrote a good chunk of the music on this album before he was kicked out of the band. What would be dope would be to do this album then Megadeths first album. Side by side reactions through their progression as bands
Yea he co wrote 4 songs on kill em all which have his style
He has less than half of written credits in the record , you Mustaine fan boys are something else
@@danamago he shaped the sound of the first record. FOH with the fanboy shit, they go hand in hand with Metallica bitch
They’ve been the best since they started. They had an underground following before they even recorded this album. Back then it took time for music to get around unlike today. So you know Dave mustaine of megadeth was a member of Metallica for this album sort of. They threw him out when they got to New York to record it and sent him home on a bus. that’s when Kirk Hammett joined. I believe they roomed with the anthrax during this recording and they have all been friends since. They have in recent years reconciled their differences with Dave mustaine and toured with megadeth on the “big four” tour which is Metallica, slayer, megadeth and anthrax.
Did you know--That Lars, James, Kirk & some of the crew also rode back to California on a bus?
Fun fact: The Four Horsemen is a rearrangement of a song called The Mechanix, and was changed following Dave Mustaine of future Megadeth fame got kicked out of the band because he was the sole songwriter. To get even and “teach up Kirk”, Dave released his original version on Megadeth’s debut. The Mechanix does not feature the slower bridge section and is played at almost double the speed, there’s video from 82 of Metallica doing the song with Dave as it (obviously) predates this record
He got kicked out of the band due to his violent and unpredictable behaviour when he was drunk/high. Metallica made this song better than the original anyway. More melodic, better lyrics, Kirk also made the solos better.
I know it doesn’t matter, but this isn’t heavy, it’s thrash. Difference is groove/speed is thrash. Heavy is something lower register and often slower like sad but true.
The movie "The Terminator" was inspired by Seek and Destroy.
Really?
@@ResubidorSerial according to the guy who wrote it. I think its kinda crazy, but who am I to judge.
The Terminator was in production in 1982, K.E.A was released in '83.
So no ...
@@Hoscitt so, argue with with the guy who wrote it that said it. The set was together for years. And don't really care. Like both. Saw the documentary. Extent of my involvement.
this is the ONLY Metallica album I'll listen to still. their best. IMO.
in this album the lead guitar was Dave Mustaine, now Megadeaths, vocals and lead guitar
He left the Metallica, because of Drug abuse, and since then the lead guitar is KirK Hammet
Dave wasn't on any Metallica album, this is Kirk
Dave Mustaine thanks you for appreciating his writing.
We all appreciate Metallica making these songs much better than they ''originally'' were.
Yea four horsemen is a massive step up from the original mechanix
James worte hit the lights and 2 riffs on fourhorsemen but Dave wrote most of four horsemen
To stop the Mustaine fanboys , he only has credits in 4 songs , leas than half of the record , so no , he did not “write them all”
Haha man I'm sick of seeing those delusional comments
Hmmm, if you like this kind of vibe in the early Metallica, you are going to enjoy Slayer and Megadeth
The majority of the songwriting on this album is from Dave Mustaine, who went on to form Megadeth. A full album review of Rust in Peace is highly recommended!
NOT. He contributed & is credited to four out of the ten tracks on this album. 😉
And... many Megadeth fans tend to bury their head in the sand, after realizing Kirk took only the first four bars from most of Dave's solos, then reworked them to his style.
You are wrong. Dave is part of 4 songs, which is less than half of the songs on the album.
Less than half of the album contains his contributions
Great work 👏. Check out the latest album ... its wicked . 🤘🤘
Just do all the Metallica albums
Do you not know what the 4 horsemen are? in Christianity, the four horsemen who, according to the book of Revelation (6:1-8), appear with the opening of the first four of the seven seals that bring forth the cataclysm of the apocalypse. The first horseman, a conqueror with a bow and crown, rides a white horse, which scholars sometimes interpret to symbolize Christ or the Antichrist; the second horseman is given a great sword and rides a red horse, symbolizing war and bloodshed; the third carries a balance scale, rides a black horse, and symbolizes famine; and the fourth horseman rides a pale horse and is identified as Death.
A lot of people consider this album to be Metallica's only good album. Lol. I highly disagree! I love it, but I do think they went on to make more great music (as you already know).
THIS....IS...METALLICA. don't get distracted by better production and more radio friendly songs from the Black album forward.......THIS IS METALLICA
