  • Courtesy of our friends at Penguin UK, here's the legendary Stephen Fry reading from his new book Mythos: The Greek Myths Retold.
From the birth of the universe to the creation of humankind, Stephen Fry - who fell in love with these stories as a child - retells these myths for our tragic, comic, fateful age. Witness Athena born from the cracking open of Zeus's great head and follow Persephone down into the dark realm of Hades. Experience the terrible and endless fate of Prometheus after his betrayal of Zeus and shiver as Pandora opens her jar of evil torments.
The Greek gods are the best and worst of us, and in Stephen Fry's hands they tell us who we are. Mythos - smart, funny, and above all great fun - is the retelling we deserve by a man who has been entertaining the nation for over four decades.

Greek myths and Stephen Fry? His narration just added an extra layer of magic to the Harry Potter series. Can't wait to get this one.

Not my usual type of reading subject, but SF makes everything interesting. I'm reading the book and hearing his voice when I do so.

Truly fascinating. I have a feeling that I can listen even to the microwave instruction with upmost interest if it's read by Stephen Fry. The best English narrator of our days and probably of all time.

    Dear Stephen Fry,
Do no longer doubt it: You are Ancient Greek, as it is so very clear that the Muses love you and that you love them back.

I've vacillated on whether or not I like Fry, but there can be no doubt that he's an excellent speaker and an eloquent writer. He's been described as, "what stupid people think smart people are like," and there's certainly some truth to that. Either way, I'll download this audiobook and enjoy his narration whilst learning about some of the classics which have largely vanished from modern curricula.
