Sadly, it won't happen, at most, switch 2 is backwards compatible with switch games, but older consoles forget it. Nintendo makes money re-releasing older games because they know people will buy them again for the newest console.

Nintendo is producing 14.6 million units of an 8 inch lcd screen with 10 million+ units of the switch 2 at launch. These aren’t leaks, their real. This probably proves that there is the switch 2 in development (obviously).

I hope it is as big as the rumour says. That would solve the problem of joycons being too small, would make the screen easier on the eyes, and would make more space inside the system for power, cooling, etc.

The point is not the bigger screen. A bigger screen equals a bigger body. Meaning more airflow and a bigger heatsink, allowing for a higher wattage on the GPU without overheating, and thus better graphics/performance. That was the point he was trying to make.
There’s something really satisfying about the switch starting with a big, long awaited mainline Zelda game, and ending with a big, long awaited Mario game.
And a second even more long awaited Zelda game.

I was replying to @Minecrafter3448 who was saying that the current gen Switch’s lifespan started with the release of the highly anticipated Breath of the Wild game. Then he said how it’s now ending with the release of Mario Bros. Wonder, a highly anticipated Mario game. He was saying how it was neat and satisfying that things happened the way they did. I replied though pointing out how the switch started with Breath of the Wild, a highly anticipated Zelda game and has seemingly ended with yet another highly anticipated Zelda game (perhaps even more anticipated then its predecessor), Tears of the Kingdom. So to your point, I wasn’t by any means saying Nintendo should have 2 Zelda titles launch with the next generation Switch but instead pointing out how the current Switch started with botw and ended with Totk. Both of which were highly anticipated and successful games. I’m not expecting another new Zelda till around 2028 - which is fine by me seeing how huge Totk is.

I agree. The Switch OLED display order was leaked 2 months before the official announcement back in 2021 so we are not far away if there is a trend here.
I think they'are going to reveal it in January 2025 (to sell as much Switch as possible for Christmas) for a release the 3rd of March 2025 (like the original Switch in 2017)

One interesting thing many people aren't talking about is how Switch 2 will most likely be running on new hardware from NVidia (at least from what I've gathered). The TegraX1, which was used on the original Switch, is something around 10 years old now. It wasn't even new when the Switch launched.
So not only are we getting a new Switch but also, new mobile hardware from NVidia, which we haven't seen in like a decade. It's gonna be very interesting to see what this new machine is capable of.

It would be super disappointing to go back in terms of screen. The OLED is what made the switch really stand out until the Steam Deck got one. I can see them making us wait for it even though I would gladly pay $100 more for an OLED one.
If it’s not backwards compatible I won’t be a day one buyer cause I still have so many games I need to finish I am sure that I am not the only one that will hold out
Theres no reason for it to not be backwards compatible. The switch uses standardized hardware unlike previous consoles which had old, proprietary architectures. But with the trend towards fully digital consoles they might remove the game card. Who knows...
Nintendo would be the last company to go all-digital.
I have hard time believing they would stick to the same cardridges. I can't even begin to imagine the loading times and asset streaming stutters with modern asset sizes if they didn't upgrade to much faster storage with the overall performance leap.

I definitely think Nintendo will show Splatoon 3 Side Order in the direct should there be one because we still don't know much about it. What is the story, how does it connect to the Splatoon lore, is it a rogue like, and if so how will it play... not to mention it comes out at the end of February. Of course only time will tell.
I want Nintendo to reveal the new console in the summer, and it should be a big showcase like the old E3 showcases

Except when it comes from an extremely credible source, it's not just a rumor but a report. Like if Jeff Grub, Jason Schreier, Takashi Mochizuki, Kopite-7 Kimi, etc. (all the platinum standard of reporting in their respective industries) and a litany of developers have come out saying the SAME THINGS over the course of like a half-year, that's not just a rumor anymore. Like I get that this guy beats a dead horse often, but this is a severe misrepresentation of what's actually being shown.

The Splatoon concert being on that date probably doesn’t have to do with a new console. It’s been moved to this date because of it being cancelled due to the threats at Nintendo live that one time.

I think we'll be getting a reveal of this console much sooner than expected. Splatoon 3 is coming out with a new dlc that I would expect for them to make it in a nintendo direct.
I'm getting nervous I really hope the new layton coming out in 2025 will hopefully be on the regular switch. I mean last year's February announcements or the year before they had the trailer for it for the regular switch soon I'd assume they would have it for the current switch or the possible new switch
And the reason why I want to get the game for the current switch is because my best friend got me into the Layton series and she does not have a switch. I wanna share all my screenshot gameplay of the game if it does come out so I can show all the possible cool things about the game like she is almost experiencing it and it would be sad if I never get the chance to show her my experience with her because I wanna share everything about it to her. Hopefully she does one day maybe get a switch but for now all I can do is hopefully once the game comes out I'd send her screenshots of the game over on discord because that's where we interact. I made a promise and I don't want to break it.

They must be really struggling to keep the price down if they're going for a LCD. If they're going with the rumored nvidia SoC, it would be understandable. Those Ampere Tegras, while using a dated architecture and process, are still definitely not cheap.

Feels like Nintendo constantly remakes everything new they come up with. Ds was made into 3ds, wii was made into Wii U and now this seems like it’s heading in the same direction with the switch. Hopefully the lineup of games is better, there were a lot of titles that did not do very well and many felt underwhelming. Botw was great so was totk, mario odyssey had a lot to do and a bunch of creativity and a handful more that were really good. Everything else was a remake, remaster, or a port. For such a great console it felt like wasted potential. Hoping this next console will be different

I feel like the screens could be for a Switch XL, as they did XL versions of the DS, 3DS and New 3DS. And I dont think they would make their new mainline hybrid that big.

All I want is a new dock with specs like a ps4, that's still compatible for the switch.
That way we can get the "next gen" experience when docked, and still have a great handheld with a great catalog (that could also still be built upon along side the new dock/ system games).
Indie and lower budget games could still develop for the switch, and with a more powerful dock the exclusives could have the potential to do crazy things (but this would be limited to dock exclusive games that won't work in handheld mode/be limited to 720p lowsettings possibly?).
I would love that, but I don't believe Nintendo will go that way. The best use the new console will make for the Switch is use it as a controller, like the Wii U tablet.

This is our first definitive confirmation it’s coming this year. We knew it was a switch sequel factually, and we were ALMOST sure from rumors it was coming in 2024 and we ALMOST knew from switch sales and we ALMOST knew from the remakes and remasters, but now we know it as a definitive fact, a switch sequel is coming in 2024.
Of course switch 2 or whatever will be confirmed eventually. Only a matter of time. But this still doesn't mean it will release this year. They simply made mass order for lcd screens so they may still be in early mass production stage. It may still take months to assemble and series of testing. Plus there's still no official announcement from nintendo yet.

Definitely hope it's backwards compatible, but even if it's not, I can still just start a second nintendo account and hang onto my old switch and physical games, at least for as long as the hardware holds up. My OLED Switch is barely over a yr old as it is.
Mario, Mario Kart, DK, Metroid Prime, add a Gamecube/NGC emulator, Wind Waker & TP ports, possibly a 2D Zelda, possibly a Star Fox, possibly a Luigi's Mansion, possibly another Mario Wonder/Maker, backwards compatibility....

Exactly..with what gaming is nowadays a LCD screen does NOT cut it. Especially not for a handheld- because of sun reflections when traveling and so on.

Well, I know that we're getting Mario VS Donkey Kong Remake, Splatoon 3 DLC Side Order, Princess Peach Showtime, Luigi's Mansion 2, and Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door but I think there still is gonna be a Nintendo Direct and I don't think they're not gonna show Switch 2 or Switch pro or Switch 4DS whatever you call it in the February Nintendo Direct maybe they'll show it as well as show off their new games for it like for the new 3D Mario Game, the new Mario Kart, and the next new big mainline Kirby game that HAL Laboratory is working on if it's new 3D Kirby Game or a sequel for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and that stuff and just do it for March.
Because I hope to see Nintendo using Greeso to do a remake of Tomodachi Life for the Nintendo Switch. Because I know that Miitopia got remastered version on the Switch and it was great and they added a new Mii Maker Editor which I like it because you can ask the person for the code then you use it and then you get the Miis that they created and that's what they should do for Tomodachi Life and it would be great seeing Tomodachi Life getting a remastered version and being ported to the Nintendo Switch and not on the new system Switch 2! Because I don't want to pay that much money to get a new console and the game so I hope Tomodachi Life does come to the Nintendo Switch in this last February Nintendo Direct for the Nintendo Switch because I hope this is the year that we do get it and not being it on Switch 2!
And also we have an announcement for HAL Laboratory for getting people to work on the next big mainline Kirby Game if it's new or if it's a sequel to Kirby and the Forgotten Land so maybe they could announce that in the February Nintendo Direct if they want too that is but we'll see. but if they do a sequel for Kirby and the Forgotten Land then it would be cool seeing Clawroline and Elfilin becoming playable characters like that would be awesome to see.
So yeah I hope this February Nintendo Direct will be a really good one from Nintendo and hopefully, it will be good. But yeah I'm defiantly excited for Switch 2 or Switch pro or Switch 4DS whatever it's called I'm really excited for it.

Man I know the switch is really successful, but honestly I really want a new full home console from Nintendo. We haven't had one since the wii (the wiiu is technically a hybrid I think?) and I would honestly love to see nintendo games in the best possible graphical settings and 60+ fps without having to use an emulator on my pc lol. I know they won't do it but one can certainly dream
The issue is that Nintendo has found a niche where they can compete. If they make a totally standard home console that’s focused entirely on power, they lose that competitive edge. They learned with N64/PS1 and GCN/PS2 that Sony will stomp them if they don’t have something unique to offer. Even the GCN’s excellent library and third party exclusives couldn’t save it.
And frankly, the average casual fan they are targeting doesn’t care about that

If it comes out, I hope the console isn't going to be that big. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to hold it proparly when I want to play it in handheld mode and it might be a bit too heavy to hold. If they're going to release a console that big, I hope there's going to be a smaller version available as well or somewhere in the future. My hands are quite small compared to others. 😅
But the bigger screen is going to be a bonus, especially if you want to play with your friends, for example, playing mario cart with them. You won't have to get so close to the screen in order to see what's happening.
