    It would be helpful if handbrake was able to provide an estimate as to what the new file size would be so it wasnt a guessing game as to which presets I need for the video Im trying to compress.

      except he did not address using "web optimized at all" or using other options from the preset dropdown menu like going into "web" and all the options available and what would be ideal based on what we need to to do. All he said was "start with fast 1080p" well, I did and I didnt get the file size down to what I needed that's why I started looking on youtube. And all im doing is trying to get a video of 170mb under 100mb and clicking web optimized wasn't enough to the that so I wouldve liked to learn what option is best for me to reduce the file size AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE using the preset options. There was no explanation on that whatsoever. Nothing worse than watching an 8 minute tutorial and learning anything.

    tip: if you wanna test how fast your video is gonna encode or how big the file size is gonna be especially for longer videos, you can always try splitting the video from "chapters" to "seconds". 30s-60s duration is a good and fast way to check.

  • @12thDecember

    Great tutorial, thank you! I would note that on a Mac, Handbrake requires you to rename the file because it will not overwrite the source file. It also saves the file as an .MP4, so no need to change the filename extension.
    Using your recommended settings, Handbrake compressed a 612MB video down to 101MB. I'm saving a lot of tutorial videos to my iPad, so this will be extremely helpful.

    Another option is just exporting to h265 on Media Encoder which is considerably more efficient than h264. There may be some compatibility issues but I use it all the time for youtube and messenger, works fine on those and I have only had one person who could not open it because she was running a now very old version of Mac OS (support was included in Mac OS from High Sierra onward I believe). Media Encoder also now has the option of hardware acceleration, which drops the quality a tad but exports considerably faster for me.

    Question: I formatted a PPT presentation to MP4, and then compressed in Handbrake. A great job with excellent compression (from 274MB to 74 MB) .... BUT .... Handbrake has trimmed off the edges of my PPT slides on each side ... leaving much text too close to the edge or even slightly cropped. Any advice on how to correct it? Thanks in advance.

    • @dannir7
      @dannir7 Před 4 lety

      @@mahjidtarantino499 since you already have the Handbrake workflow and since you say your timeline plays fine with MP4 files, I would suggest to import the original assets in Premiere Pro, then compress them to MP4 with Handbrake (you could use Media Encoder as well, it's probably faster - depending on what preset you use in Handbrake).. and then use these compressed versions as proxies.. what format and resolution are the files that give you trouble in Premiere Pro? and what is your computer configuration? (CPU, RAM, Graphics Card)
