There was nothing “off color” about Chris Rock’s joke. That is a ridiculous statement, and it minimizes the violence that was visited on him in front of millions of people. I’m sick of seeing violence glorified as an appropriate response to words.

Tbh, I'm disappointed about that..all because of Chris's scrap awful joke about wipes wife. He's the one who shouldn't return. He did it all very awful. Total garbage humor. (FWIW, anyone who thinks A Marriage Story was realistic but has never seen Kramer vs. Kramer should give it a watch. It''s devastating, and devastatingly real in a way that AMS doesn't quite match.)
The Best Picture mix up was the most surprising thing that I had ever seen in the history of any awards show. I am so glad that I did not turn my TV off after this crazy shit went down.

I commented on this separately, but I think The Slap™ only made Smith himself look stupid; what made the world - or, at least, the film industry - look stupid that night was when it not only allowed Smith to stay for the rest of the show but also gave him that standing ovation.

it's telling that will smith's first reaction to that joke is laughter. when it cuts to him & jada she's rolling her eyes but he's laughing. she definitely gave him some "exCUSE ME?" glare when the camera cut away and he felt like he had to be the tough man defending his wife's honor to save face.
The one piece of video that we'll sadlynever have: the look on Smith's face - and confirmation that he was looking directly at Jada - at the precise moment he decided to do what he did.

Do you have any idea just how different it would be if he didn’t slap Chris Rock? This comment wouldn’t even exist, and more people would acknowledge his talent and his Oscar. Very few people say “Will Smith deserved that Oscar and he’s so talented”. Instead, everyone says “I can’t believe Will Smith slapped Chris Rock”. Meanwhile people continue to praise others who won Oscars because they didn’t act like babies.
What he did was childish, unnecessary, and he acted like a baby. End of story.
That slap was most likely a staged attention grabber. Everyone there were actors and that exact situation and a couple other happened at the Oscar’s before. But even if it was real it’s still not serious when you think of the bigger things in Hollywood going on like the untouchable cults, sex trafficking, and countless other horrendous acts that go on behind the scenes that they distract people from with events like this.
He “destroyed” his legacy among White peoples and the people who love them. Black people are fine with Will Smith: Chris Rock, meanwhile is on our shitlist. He excused a White man using the n-word. But White folk really love Rock. Was the slap warranted? Probably. People treat these award shows as if they’re some sanctified entity when they’re nothing more than the entertainment industry congratulating itself. Nonetheless, he had this coming.

That was deplorable and upsetting to see, I commend Chris Rock on his ability to handle the incident the way he did and hope he overcomes the attack. I love entertainment, and up until the 94th Academy Awards, I adored Will Smith. But whenever I see The Slap™ pop up online, I'm reminded that it actually wasn't the only awful thing that happened on that show - what was just as bad, and in some ways even worse, was the combination of the Academy allowing Smith to remain in the theater (regardless of what Rock may have wanted; I'm sorry but you let him stay, you condone the behavior) and the audience - or should I say, the sheep - giving him that f***ing standing ovation, as if they hadn't just watched this man physically assault the host right in front of their eyes. You would have thought at least a FEW people would have stayed in their seats. The on-air response, or lack thereof, from everyone but Chris Rock was completely abhorrent and deplorable.

The Slap was just confusing. The feed cut to black and then came back when they were yelling at each other so no one knew what was happening. But the wrong Best Picture being announced will always be the most shocking Oscar moment for me, since I was so sick of La La Land winning everything that I was standing in front of the TV, ready to turn it off when it was announced for Best Picture.
And that folks is why i don't watch these awards shows cause who knows unscripted is gonna be and its entertaining folks
