With the boost wound up the 300zx is getting a bit hot under the bonnet and Nissan in all there wisdom decided to put the one device that makes all good things possible in the most vulnerable spot they could. We have to move the PTU from the front of the motor to a cooler place.

Thanks for your advice. We have just finished relocating our zx's PTU to next to the air intake, in front of the radiator. Was a nightmare cutting hardened wire insulation off in a very confined space. A 20 minute job took almost 2 hours. ha-ha ..... as our xz's PTU connections were heavily corroded. At least the PTU is in a much better position now.
Seeing the condition of your PTU connections, we are going to move the PTU to where you moved it after cleaning. Our z32 2 + 2 TT has already got the after market air filters, etc . Thanks for sharing.

Hot stuff that vibrates is not the place to locate sensitive electronic components Nissan, relocated the PTU on my N/A to the nose cone back when I had it....best move ever.....then sold it and upgraded to a mk3 Supra turbo lol....now to work out how to make my 7mgte as reliable as the VG30de was.

you do realize that relocating the PTU to the front of the car is a very bad idea. There is a reason the engineers decided to put the PTU where it was and that is in front of the clutch fan where it will get a crap ton more air then in the front of the motor. To many PTU have fried by relocating them to the front of the car. Just a heads up

Definitely recommend upgrading to the series 2 ptu when you can, the old series 1 are notorious for having the solders inside fail, hence why they stop working. I just turned up the boost to 12psi on mine and I'm absolutely loving it combined with the 4.11 diff in it :) nice work mate

Throw a bottle of water wetter in the radiator. Really helps with the high temps on my Evo at track days. How clapped out are your bushings?

Intake! Yeah me too but it’s an understandable wait with everything that has to go into a new ep. Doing the PTU mod on the weekend to my z32 since you made it look piss easy haha and sweet, hopefully not too low so you can still get the jack under 😂
James Creaton that new Jack we featured in the first episode of Operation. Sportswagon... Yeah, that doesn't fit already. I am going to invent miniature rubber ramps to drive on to to raise a car to fit a jack under it... Patent pending, don't steal my idea
I really dig the project, I've never looked into the Z32 because of all the jokes but they're a great bit of kit!
I have always thought them to be a joke amongst the Japanese super cars of the late 80s and 90s, but truth is that they are fucking awesome and I can't fault mine.

Hey Brother. We are going to be adding them to the store next week most likely.
Stock temp gauge only moves from dead center when the car is on fire, 100% get an aftermarket gauge so you know what's going on. 400HP at the wheels is generally the max sensible power on standard fuel for stock turbos so you're probably not far off
Tom Ault looks like we are on the search for some new gauges Brother. The car already has a massive walbro pump, but we will need bigger injectors and an ecu before we worry about turbos.
Would have been nice to see you upgrade to a new style PTU instead of keeping the old style, although relocating the PTU eliminates one need for upgrading to the new style. Enjoying the episodes! Keep them coming!
Agreed Brother! But we really just wanted to get back in the garage while the sun was still out and bang out an episode even though we didn't have any new parts right then. But this really is something that everyone with an older z32 can do, FOR FREE!
just the actual ptu? i noticed they sell the 2 bolt replacement online do i just buy that and plug and play or do i need a different harness?

Marcos Lopez in Australia the saying goes don't drink and drive. They stop you from driving before you actually get drunk. So here we quite often use the term drink driving. But I can see how that sounds like a mistake.

I just went dual pop with the translator, I felt a noticeable difference, mainly from the weight reduction in my wallet.
That's where the difference of most z32 mods is felt most Brother!

The temp gauge always sits in the middle. It's either cold, Meh, or fucking pull over and stop. Go aftermarket fella.

Why do auto manufacturers mount any sort of CPU under the bonnet? It’s the stupidest design choice you can make. Computers need to stay cool. Put them in the car or somehwere cooler FFS, not on a huge vibrating mega heater
