    everyone has there own taste and both of these guitars are great value with slightly different tones, the Squier Affinity offers a brighter tone, whereas the Yamaha has a lower tone that's not as bright. i think Yamaha would be quieter to play at night for a kid,
    also i prefer the Yamaha amp over the Fender, but both are decent starter amps.
    now feel wise i prefer the Squier, but sound wise i like Yamaha.
    you can't go wrong either way, if you like the brighter tone go with the Squier,
    but if you don't want it to be as bright go with the Yamaha.
    these guitar packs have been around for a long time,

    • @chrismeadows4216
      @chrismeadows4216 Před 3 lety +8

      The Yamaha, for sure. It has much more stability and the tone is pleasant enough. It's considered one of the best starter guitars. The amp is pretty decent. Having a tuner will make things so much easier for you.

    • @taylorkraus9491
      @taylorkraus9491 Před 3 lety

      Yamahas pack is better than squier by far but if you are looking to go slightly more expensive a Jackson js and fender champion 20 is really good I have the used equivalent to that as my setup and it is really great you can also swap out the Jackson with a Les Paul special

    • @chrismeadows4216
      @chrismeadows4216 Před 3 lety +2

      @@taylorkraus9491 The problem with getting a JS is that it doesn't generally come with anything else. No gig bag, no tuner, no picks, no strap. Just an Allen key and an instruction manual, at least if you get it new from a retailer. Buying a case for a Rhoads, Warrior, or Kelly can cost nearly as much as the guitar itself, while decent Strat cases are easy to get for $80-$150. The Epi Special II performance packs are definitely comparable to the Squier pack. I highly recommend it, although the neck on those guitars is not smooth, to say the least, and the outputs can be very loose. They stay in tune much better than the Squiers, fortunately. Getting a Bullet almost makes locking tuners, a blocked tremolo, replaced nut, and roller trees necessities.
      Personally, I feel someone would get the most bang for their buck by grabbing a Donner guitar pack. They have really nice Strats for about the same price these sets used to be with a tuner, strings, picks, a lessons DVD, a gig bag, and a miniature amp included, for no shipping or tax. The headstocks aren't tacky like Glarry or Ammoon. Just a nice sensible guitar that plays really well and has the proper fret and neck treatments. Three knobs like a Squier rather than a Yamaha, and a bridge humbucker for the Fat Strat sound. They even give seasonal discounts for like 20% off. It's fantastic. 😎🖤

    My biggest pet peeve of practice amps with two channels is that usually there is no foot switch. I always hated having to take my hand away from the guitar to press a switch. I think most people would rather pay a little extra to be able to hands free switch to the 2nd channel.

    Leo Fender's jack design beats Pacifica hands down. Why? Because the Strat's jack is embedded. Meaning it's plug isn't jutting out, easily bumped off. Unlike the Pacifica with its plug out and risking getting bumped off. Sound/tone? Not really too much difference. Anyway, you usually get the Strat S-S-S pups for the vintage rock & roll sound. My Pacifica came the other day, but I'm disappointed. Now, I understand why old-timers say these vids are mostly "sales talk". After all, this is an Alamo Music Center vid. They build up Pacifica as a quality built guitar, but this Pacifica that came had sharp fret ends. So, I'll be sending it back and sticking to my old reliable Squier Strat. These cheap Strat copies I can mod and mod and mod. Thanks.

      1. The output jack nonsense you're sprouting as an alleged negative is clearly done out of brand familiarity bias. It is a TOTAL non-issue. A zillion guitars use side or top mounted direct output jacks including those from Gibson, Epiphone, PRS, and Gretsch, another Fender Corporation brand. On the plus side, a direct output jack can accept right angle plugs as well as straight. Either way, the plugs are not ..ROFL "easily bumped off".
      2. The physical balance of the Pacifica is superior, the overall body length shorter, the fingerboard radius is flatter, the string spacing is tighter. As to body shapes, those are individual preferences. I'm not bound to tradition, so prefer the the smaller Pacifica body, its body cutaways as well as its lines. The Squier body is probably Basswood, which is why it is perceptibly lighter, but dents more easily. Yamaha's PAC012 body used to be used to be Agathis, but has since changed to (Asian) Mahogany, which IMPE is about the same density/weight as Alder which explains why they are heavier than the Squier. They weigh in around 3.45KG, (about 7.6lb), a very comfortable weight. Both Tremolo bridge systems as any on guitars at this price point are token units, functionally rubbish as such. Both 15W make a noise out of the box ultra basic starter amps are just that. Primary difference is appearance, although in the Yamaha's favour, its aux in and headphone out jacks are 3.5mm, much more practical in the real world today.
      Both are OK starter packs. Either will do the job. Apart from the amp jacks, I think it most buyer's decision prices will boil down to brand bias aesthetics preference, although the fingerboard fit should be a consideration but won't be for most. Personally I wouldn't buy either. I'd spend that modest premium more and buy quality separate guitar, amp and accessories were I in that position, and did back when that was me. But these are targeted at the 'all in the box' at a budget price point starter.
