Interesting idea but I'd doubt it based on their nen afffinity. Kikyo is a manipulator like Illumi and Kalluto; Feitain is a transmuter. Transmuters only show up in the Zoldyck family genes in the white-haired prodigies. The transmuter genes seem to be a rarity in the Zoldyck family tree.

@@degreesbrix That's not entirely true. Alluka is not a Manipulator, so the hair color dynamic is not absolute. Also, Feitan threatened to torture Gon but said nothing about Killua. He is also 4 years older than Illumi, the eldest Zoldyke. Finally, Kalluto wants to be #2 in the Phantom Troupe, which happens to be Feitan's rank.

I know the Feitan-Zoldyck thing is a stretch, but Iâm glad itâs at least a commonly thought theory within the community. I remember my first time watching hxh and in the york new city arc, when the troupe kills everybody in the auction and Feitan kills that last guy, with the same hand/nail transforming technique as killua, and then explicitly saying âfamily, whatâs that?â. for sure itâs easy to say âoh itâs probably just a common assassin technique, they just both happen to know itâ, but it being paired with the INSTANT mention of âfamilyâ, when the only time weâve seen that technique be from Killua, of the Zoldyck family, it was definitely super easy to theorize that Feitan was a former Zoldyck somehow. I was actually quite surprised when nothing ever came from that in the series

What about Silva killing a member of the Troupe before the events of the main story coming into direct conflict with Chrollo? And Killua mentioning that Silva told him to stay away from the Troupe? Feel like this theory has a lot of ground to it. What if Feitan was the first heir of the Zoldyck family but left for whatever reason which is why theyâre so protective of Killua?

Maybe Kalluto when younger wished Feitan out of the family in a child like argument and only Kalluto remembers this as she's the one who made the wish so wasn't effected by the memory alteration like everyone else which is why this mission is a personal one for her.

I think Killua did recognize Feitan, because in the Yorknew City arc, when the mafia was handing out the bounty sheets with the Phantom Troupe's photos on it, Feitan's photo was on it, and Killua was left looking shocked for a few moments while Leorio and Gon were talking.

Arely D Itâs toward the middle of the arc. Killua explained that Silva killed a member bc he was contracted to do so and that he said âit was not worth the moneyâ and Killua said thatâs the best compliment he ever gives a target. Silva also gathered the family and said they should stay clear from the troupe.

Feitan being revealed to be a Zoldyck has not happened yet (if it is even supposed to) and Togashi hasn't confirmed it himself, so the people working on the series wouldn't know that Feitan is supposed to be a Zoldyck, and wouldn't purposely use that theme. They probably just thought it would fit well

The moment Feitan used the same hand technique that Killua use in the Hunter Exam arc instantly made me think he was a former Zoldyck.
Yeah but as far as I know that was anime only and not in the manga.
my thoughts on the feitan theory are a little scattered, and admittedly don't have a ton of evidence to back them up, but here they are anyway:
if feitan were in fact related to the zoldyck family, I would guess that is more of a half brother from kikyo rather than being a full blooded member of the family. as we've seen with killua and alluka, they do not like to let members go easily unless they have completely proven their worthlessness, which I don't believe someone as talented as feitan would have.
it's a known fact that kalluto spends alot of time by their mother, kiyko. while their relationship is not described in much detail, it can be assumed that they are close, perhaps to a point where kikyo would tell kalluto about her youth as a meteor city inhabitant. it's my belief that kikyo had feitan as a young woman in meteor city with someone other than silva, and either abandoned him when she left or some other circumstances separated them. this would explain why feitan does not fully fit in with the zoldyck family characteristics, he has no zoldyck blood, but is still a brother to kalluto.
if kikyo did tell kalluto about the existence of another brother, I think he would go after him for a multitude of reasons. perhaps just plain curiosity, or maybe kikyo expressed that she regretted parting with her child and wanted him back. the most likely answer imo, plainly put, is that kalluto was looking for a good sibling relationship. kalluto as a character feels very isolated from the other zoldycks, and I think that was intentional on togashi's part. he doesnt have strong relationships with any of his other siblings, but maybe seeing firsthand the bond that killua and alluka had made him yearn for the same thing. he did show interest in gon and killua's bond, so I dont think it's too out of left field character wise. when he heard about this 'other brother' from kikyo, he finally had the opportunity to form a bond with another member of the family, and he jumped on that chance.

Feitan is half brother. he is son of Kikyo. he is not a Zoldyck. kalluto is very close to kikyo that may be told him about that secret. kikyo is from metero city also and he is not a zoldyck so he can be a transmuter

*Edit:* I just learned that Kikyo Zoldyke, Killua's mother, is from Meteor City, where Feitan is from. We don't know her Maiden name but it could be "Porter", meaning Feitan could be her son from another man and Kalluto's half-brother. Feitan is 4 years older than Illumi Zoldyke, the eldest son, so the timeline fits.

What about the fact that Feitan's first language is canonically different from the main language of the HxH world? If he were a Zoldyck, why would he speak differently than the other Zoldycks?
Meteor City is a place where people are abandoned. If the Zoldycks left him there (or someone else did) at a very young age before he learned how to speak, he could have picked it up in Meteor City.
They just want it to be Feitan, no other reason. Facts are not relevant with that theory

Out of every Hunter x Hunter character I can relate to the most it is Kalluto. Always being out shined by his siblings(i.e. mainly Killua and Illumi) is a big one, because yeah I've been there, I know what it feels like to always be out casted because of my siblings, i.e. my young half sister and my older blood brother, it sucks.

Kalluto seeking out Feitan sounds reminiscent of Hiei seeking out Yukina (which is what Abuagla was saying) and adds plausibility to the theory in question, especially, when coupled with the fact that Feitan's character design is obviously a recycling of Hiei's.
Also, compare Hiei vs Makintaro (episode 44; ch. 78) with Feitan vs Zazan (episode 97; ch. 228). Both swordsmen exhibiting great speed, using afterimages, and attempting to cut through the necks of an enemy they're standing atop of. In Feitan's case the behind the neck stabbing failed and using Ko backfire so he relied on his hatsu Pain Packer like how Hiei would rely on Dragon of The Darkness Flame when needing to quickly finish strong enemies (iirc, Zeru was the first example).

I always thought Kalluto joined to eventually take charge of the group, by possibly killing Chrollo or waiting for when someone else does, and using the troupe to force Killua to go back to the Estate and become an assassin again. When Gon went to the Zoldyck estate for Killua, Kalluto was drawn with a seeming visible disgust towards Gon in a panel which was in the chapter Kikio heard Killua was being let go. Kalluto seemed mad since they all knew Gon was there to take Killua so it makes sense that his goal would be to bring him back to the estate, away from Gon who in his stance took his older brother away.
Edit: the reason Kalluto would need the troupe would be because Killua is said to be the most gifted Zoldyck ever, almost seeming destined to pass up his siblings miles over by the time he peaks in strength. This extreme power would make Kalluto, at least alone, no match. With the entire troupe he could possibly guarantee heâd succeed. By the time Kalluto gets to Troupe level Killua would presumably be way beyond, so a group of strong individuals would be the best and maybe only way to get his brother back since he himself may not ever be able to get to his brotherâs level after a certain point. Thatâs possibly why Kalluto joined the troupe. He mayâve also been hired to.

I must disagree, if Kalluto knew that he could never take Killua back on his own then he wouldn't join a group that he thought he could take over easily like a piece of cake, Kalluto only learned to know how strong the troupe is after he had seen Feitan fight against Zazan
What if Kalluto joined the Phantom troupe (which steal mysterious treasures and stuff) to get a treasure which can exorcise 'something' (Nanika) out of Alluka...hence saying "I'll get my brother back no matter what"...I know it's a bit of a stretch but it's just a theory

I do like in the 99 anime when Hisoka and Illumi have to switch, Kalluto distracts Franklin and he wonders if Kalluto is with the other kids following them (Killua and Gon). Franklin was just so shocked a person would break into their hideout, and it was cool because Kalluto would later join so it was like Nobunaga finding a kid with potential. It made me think Kalluto found a place where they could flourish since Silva had said fighting the Troupe isn't worth it, they helped kill the Dons for the Troupe and Kalluto is outshined by all other Zoldycks. Sounded like a connection they made on their own, but Illumi joining makes me wonder if they have a job.
For the sake of the argument, letâs say Feitan is a family member. His Nen being that of a transmuter while not having white hair could be the reason he was banished from the family and left in Meteor City.
And hereâs a side thought: what if Kikyo isnât his mom but him & his mom were abandoned before the marriage with Kikyo? đ€

Killua was meant to learn during his time in heavens arena but he quit on the floor he was meant to go through the baptism. And i guess since his physical abilities were still 1 in a million he was able to skirt by his assasin jobs with no nen (they definitely didn't give the young heir hard jobs at that age)

Purely Presbyterian I think togashi just forgot killua didnât know about nen because in the chimera ant arc he somehow knew about zenoâs dragon dive despite never seeing it from the time he learned about nen up to that point
I think it's because Killua rebels against the family, so Silva thought it would be dangerous for the fams to teach him nen directly. On the other hand, Kalluto doesn't seem to show any sign of rebel.

Theory- kalluto being the youngest and feiton being the oldest didnt get along. Kalluto gets a wish from nannika after a sibling arguement and kalluto wishes feiton was never part of the family. An immature wish quite capable of a young kid that inadvertently wipes the memories of all family members and sends feiton away.

It could be that Illumi placed a needle in Feitan. He did with Killua. Also Zoldycks killed a PT member. The puppet dude. So it could have been alot going on there.

@Jamal Robertson Except for Alluka, who was assigned male at birth, and who likely is genetically and chromosomally male, hormonally male, and has primary and secondary male physiology, but identifies with the gender that is traditionally opposite her biological sex - therefore Alluka is a girl.
All the other siblings are cisgender boys/men, but Illumi and Kalluto are not gender conforming, and I suspect that Killua is gender apathetic.

Here's my take on the Nanika wish Theory.
At some point during their childhood Kalluto fulfilled the condition to have a wish granted. Now because of a recent fight she had with Feitan she had accidently wish that he wasn't his brother. Nanika compelled to grant the first wish she heard, granted it in a round about way by teleporting him away and removing any memories of his affiliation with the Zoldyck family. Now because it was Kalluto who made the wish, he was spared from the memory wipe.
Sure these theories are good, but did you know that bungee gum has the properties of both rubber and gum.

If I remember correctly Kalluto makes a point of giving Gon a very angry look when he comes to get Killua back in the Zoldyck family arc, which would lead me to believe heâs talking about Killua except that I still canât explain why joining the phantom troupe would help with that. Who knows.
What if he was exiled because he's actually their half brother? Think about it, the rule of Zoldyk Nen wouldn't apply to him if he has a different father. Furthermore, they wouldn't have known that he was actually a different type of nen until they taught him Nen.
So Feitan could have been banished to go live in meteor city and adopt his father's name Porter. This is the perfect place as their is no record of his birth here.
If this theory were to be true I would like it more if he was son of Silva and another woman, because if he was son of Kikyo and another man it would mean that he's not really a Zoldyck (also the Nen rule wouldn't apply to him, because it only applies to the Zoldycks, meaning: the children of Silva).
The thing about the Zoldyck family photo we keep referencing⊠Kikyo is also in the photo, but not Silva. To me, this infers that this is a photo of Kikyo and HER children. Itâs still possible Silva could be Feitanâs father. It would also explain why his name doesnât jibe with the other childrens naming convention.

Iâve always thought Feitan was a Zoldyck since makes a ton of sense in my opinion. I donât believe itâs just a coincidence that he looks like a Zoldyck with his black spikey hair and he does the sharp nail thing that killua does too. His nen type couldâve come from killuas mom maybe cheating on Silva or maybe could come from someone earlier in the family. With the first reason, itâs very unlikely and a big stretch but it would make sense why feitan would be removed from the family if Silva found out. I get a bit confused on how nen types work so I canât really go into the second possible reason much. Silva couldâve used Allukas power to make all of the Zoldycks, including feitan, forget about feitan ever being a part of the family as well. But then again that doesnât make much sense for Kalluto to know about feitan. Maybe he couldâve found pictures of feitan or maybe over heard Silva and her mom talking about him. I donât know. Sounds like a bit of a stretch but I think itâs an interesting theory.
Short answer: He wanted to be more relevant to the story rather than just his mom's sidekick.

5 probable pieces of evidence that could point to Feitan being a "lost" Zoldyck are these. 1) He used that claw hand tech that Killua used to kill that mosquito chimera ant, 2) he used a version of that rhythm echo step (?) against Zazan, 3) His face is similar to the fat Zoldyck, 4) The same tune played when he was fighting Zazan that also played when Killua was with Gon at the Heavens arena and the Zoldyck theme too, 5) his love of torture.

Just the fact that Kalluto was even accepted into the ranks of the spiders at a younger age than Killua shows his power level as well. Togashi just subtlety drops gems.

Maybe when they found out Feitan didnât fit the Zoldyck mode of white haired transmuters and black haired manipulators, they exiled him or dumped him in meteor city when he was still young or possibly even a baby. That would explain him getting what might be a new name and his lack of acknowledgment to Killua since it theoretically wouldâve been before his birth
I love the idea of Feitan being a Zoldyck and Nanika being the reason he's gone. Imagine Killua being upset at his brother and asking to make Feitan go away; Killua asking, "Nanika, I wish Feitan wasn't in of our family"...However, I do believe the "brother" in question is Killua himself.
I personally hope Kalluto is talking about getting Alluka back. As in, joining the Phantom Troupe is a stepping stone in getting Alluka back from Nanika. If Kalluto believes Alluka has been changed by Nanika, he may want to get stronger and separate the two. Therefore, Kalluto would get his "brother back".

Hey Liam, something I just noticed on my rewatch is that when the mafia guy tells Feitan, Franklin and Shizuku that the bosses will kill their families after the massacre it is Feitan specifically who says âFamily? Whatâs that?ââ After killing him (while doing the same sharp nails technique killua displays early in the series, that has nothing to do with his nature as a Transmuter)
Another theory:
Feitan is kyokos before marriage son, as she was an assassin before meeting silva. This theory making sense if you consider the fact that both of them from meteor city, and that she may, well, abandoned him after meeting silva, wanting to start a new life, ect.
Kalluto may be the only sibling in the family knows it, because his close relationship with his mom.
Faitan is a original member of the Phantom troupe so he was born and raised in Meteor City. He's been a phantom troupe member before Kalluto was even born
And even if he was somehow his brother why would she be the only one that remembers him? We've seen how strangely attached the zoldycks are to each other
Maybe the family somehow made sure that Nanika only removed Feitan and Killua's memory of his Zoldick history, as Killua has possibly always had a noticeably strong interest in going outside for the purpose of not killing, and might've gotten an even greater interest knowing that one of his brothers got to live out there without the family depending on him assassinating a target
I think a more interesting question is why Kalluto seemed to be capable of nen before Killua even knew of its existence. He already had a specialized use for it when he joined the troupe and it takes a while to learn. I can only conclude that he already had nen-abilities before HxH even started or started to develop them shortly after Killua ran away.

Also feirzn was supposed to be apart of the fam but was scrapped so Al Lukas could be the mysterious one in the pic but instead they made to where heâs kikyos son and not Xenia and itâs to be revealed in a later ark
I think it cannot be Feitan for one simple reason : Feitan talk another language when he is mad, so that mean that the "common language" isn't is native one, wich mean that Feitan either forgot everything including the ability to speak when he was exil and had to relearn it, which incredibly unplosible.

Meteor City is place for leftfield, he could very well be in a familly of exil, a fallen mafia... What I just want to note is that it is so rare for a character in Hunter X Hunter to talk an unkown language that it is obviously tied to his backstory, and their not anymore place for Zoldick sheninigane.
I thought Kalluto joined Phantom Troupe to find Illumi, remember when Illumi post as a substitute for Hisoka on the York New City Arc, it was never explained how Illumi able to escape the group.
hisoka texted illumi that he could slip out. he was never held hostage. he could just walk out.
Considering Kikyo is native from Meteor City, it is possible she had Feitan before being taken as Silva's wife (which would explain his different name, seeming disconnect from the family, etc).
I am not sure how deep Kalluto's thought process is involved in this, but he could be thinking that Illumi is a bit too insane to be the head of the family and Killua is too rebellious, so Kikyo wants him to bring someone who fits the Zoldick lifestyle to a T, has the strength to back it up and is technically Illumi's senior in Feitan, to restore the family's strength

what if feitan is kikyo's first child while she was in meteor city. Kikyo might have had him while she is very young. (Togashi is not above putting themes like that, like Mukuro's past) Left him there when she met and marry silva. The reason why kaluto knows and the rest of the siblings didn't is because he is always by their mother's side and might have mentioned it in one of her rumblings đ±

I don't buy into the whole "Feitan Zoldyck" theory, I think its just fans overthinking things to the point of none sense really.
Its just as plausible if not moreso than any other option. There's no logical reason for Calluto to join the spiders if he was talking about Killua or Aluca

Remember that the family was testing out Nanika's rules how it works? My guess is, that in one of those wishes the unborn baby 'Feitan' died (was killed) by the wish. But in reality, baby Feitan never died, but was simply teleported out of mama's womb inside Meteor city. So Killua not recognizing his favorite brother (the perfect assassin example) makes total sense. Gon is an enhancer but he has nen techniques like scissor (transmuter) and kamehameha (emiter). The whole argument that Feitan doesn't have white hair can be easily countered with: yes, Feitan is a transmuter but he only trains his other categories (perhaps because he didn't have a proper nen teacher which makes sense because he never did the secret hunter exam)
- Also, Feitan is very very very short so he's Killua's age. Might even be Killua's twin.

What if Feitan was Alluka's twin. Imagine, Alluka and Feitan are together in the same womb. Then Nanika has had enough or makes a wish to remove Feitan out of the womb. Momma: "I wish I didn't have a twin" and then Alluka (who was a baby inside her belly) heard it
Do you think you'll ever cover the Pariston Hill theory regarding him being behind the Kurta Clan massacre? I think this was the first HxH theory I've ever read and it seemed very plausible, if not entertaining at the least. I'm not sure if there's much else to add on it, but googling "Pariston Kurta theory" is enough to find the sources.
I like the idea in my head of expanding on the past event of Silver killing a troupe member in which after both sides coming to a equal standing, Chrollo would agreed for a "eye for an eye" trade in which a Zoldyc member would join the troupe in replacement of the dead member Silver had a contract on, so that both sides would walk away with their lives instead of taking each other out at that current time.

Nice, but Alluka-Nanika granting wishes ability doesn't seem to be related with Nen abilities.
One biggest clue was that granting wish ability came from a disaster level creature from The Dark Continent named Ai-habitual go-to word Nanika said in response to wishes she's inquired to like "Hai" = "Yes/Understood".
If it was indeed a nen ability, how come the rest of the family don't know how to handle it apart from the "rule" established around its fate hacking potential?

I also think that alluka wish ability is similar to nen cause it's a big power but with a high risk. It works like nen the more powerful the ability is the higher are the risks. If Feitan is actually a Zoldyck, it wouldn't be too far fetched if he simply dyed his hair I think. Maybe his natural hair color is in fact white like you would expect from a Zoldyck transmuter.

What I don't get is why Feitan? I mean, if there is a complicated Nanika thing that happened, it could also apply to Chrollo. He is about the same age as Feitan and his face and hair also fit the Zlodyck siblings style when they are down. Also Feitan speaks another language, Chrollo doesn't seem to.
They are the two members of the troupe who would fit the theory : founding members, young enough that it's not impossible, still alive, male, origins unknown before Meteor City, chara-design not too removed from the Zlodyck's style (looking at Franklin here..)
