  • Abandoned Hooters, Peerless Wallpaper, & More Monroeville, PA. Several businesses sit on this property which has been sold to become a grocery store. Or so that is according to rumor. Everything has been closed here for at least 4 or 5 years.

Another awesome video and great to see Richard and Kara putting their own touches on filming these properties. The best part is your funny commentary on things like there hasn't been a hoot at that Hooters in years. It's like the businesses closed one day and just left everything.
Surprised something hasn't been built on those plots for years. Maybe tear them down and put a grocery or something.
There is a busy Hooters by the Macy's on 34th street Manhattan, one in Atlantic City and a few in New Jersey and King of Prussia Mall (which has everything except a JC Penney which closed.) Wonder if business is down since Hooters was featured on Undercover Boss.
I only go to Hooters for the wings. I would go to the Smokers Paradise because I LOVE cigars and just sitting and smoking slow, hopefully with a good beer or black Russian or cognac or single malt. I can't smoke while on Cat sit duty and bring the smell in the home.

1 Location for HOOTERS is $2.5 million for the name. Plus, fees.
Then, you are forced to open 1 every year. (additional fee of $1 million each, for name)
They can take control even after getting their $2.5 million, or millions more, just for the name.
lf they don't approve of your handling of their name, or open at least 6 in 6 years.

Good thing you recorded this when you did Wallie, I drove by today and all those building are now totally fenced off! The City Buffet closed around '13 or '14, and afterwards there was a banner hanging up for awhile that said a new buffet was coming soon, but it never happened. God I miss the "Thai Chili Chicken" at the City Buffet!

I used to have a Hooters where I live in Syracuse New York. They were located at the carousel mall but now known as the megamall destiny USA. Hooters was turned into some Japanese Chinese place come sit down at the table and have them chop some food up in front of your face and throw it on your plate type restaurant very expensive. They also have a walk up window where you can walk up and take home some Chinese takeout food to take home with you. I never went to Hooters because I was a little boy at the time and no I have not gone into the Chinese Japanese chop up the food right in front of you at your table restaurant because they're very expensive because they put on a show chopping up the food for you right in front of your face

Late to the party, but what the hell...
The buffet was once Evergreen Chinese restaurant. My mother worked briefly in Monroeville in the late 1990s, and the office ordered from Evergreen. Everyone who partook in Evergreen got a case of the drizzly shits or worse. Never went back.
I think I went to Hooters there once in 1998. I was immediately put off by the high prices for mediocre food. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich. The waitress asked if I wanted a tomato slice on the sandwich. I naively acquiesced. I saw on the check they charged me an extra dollar for the single tomato slice. Never went back.
I suspect the entire place is empty so the owner(s) of the lot can take a buyout from PennDOT. This is the area where the new Mon-Fayette Expressway will connect with Business Route 22. One proposal would condemn The Home Depot, another would condemn the old Computer City next to Home Depot, so it's reasonable this lot is doomed to demolition.

A few months back, I stumbled onto this document which points to the grocery store rumor being true. This document is more about the construction at Penn Center East just west of there where they built Texas Roadhouse and retrofitted the Sears building into storage and smaller retail. There is a page with a map showing Lidl will use the site when they eventually expand into SW PA.
